Fabian is a 3rd year Sophomore who was an early enrollee at Florida. So (like Leiter) he does potentially have more negotiating power in that sense. It's almost certain that Leiter signs regardless I feel like (so much uncertainty with pitching and health and such) but it's not impossible to imagine Fabian goes back to college if he doesn't like how things shake out. Slot value for pick 40 is $1,856,700. Slot value + 5% is $1,949,535. I think it's unlikely that Fabian signs for 2 million or a shade under that, but it's not impossible by any means. I think more relevantly he's a good target for a team with bonus picks and a nice pool, like the Reds for instance, which would likely take him off the board before 40.
Separately, does anyone know if he's playing in the Cape Cod League or if any major bats are? With the later draft date, there could be potential for interesting movement there.

Phillips Academy OF/P, and Leominster native Jonathan Santucci has worked out for the Red Sox. He is committed to Duke. Was playing for Worcester in the Futures League (only local summer league that allows incoming college frosh to play), and will head to the MLB Draft combine this week. I've seen him as high on 70 on pre draft site boards.

There is a Vermonter on the BA 500 - Owen Kellington, a HS RHP from Montpelier committed to UConn - if Chaim doesn't pick him this draft is a failure. Alex Speier wrote an article on Kellington here

He pitched 2 innings no hits 3 Ks but did walk 2. Still impressive since he's literally still a high schooler.

Leiter Ks 5 through 2 innings. Very good command of his fastball but velocity is 90-94 mph. I knew that Vandy's radar was JUICED 😂

If Leiter keeps it up he may not be there for us. Im starting to get worried that Mayer, Davis and Leiter will be 1-2-3 in some order.

Given the uncertainty of the draft, the probability of any given 1-2-3 combination is very often less than 50%. The chances that one of those three are available I think are pretty good (even if the chance that those 3 are the first 3 picked is the most probable individual option).

Those are the three best players as we all pretty much see it. So I don’t see why mlb teams would view it a whole lot differently, unless Watson is a bit higher for one of the teams.

I’d rather they had not let him throw 120+ pitches but whatever, hell of a pitchers duel between him and Highfill

Sheesh I thought for sure when he got out of the 7th with a pair of Ks with the bases loaded and over 100 pitches that would be it…guess I was wrong.

91??? How does that play in modern day mlb? I'm sure that Leiter would be serviceable but....that FB wouldn't displace anyone in our suspect rotation save Perez.
....Please let us take a position player!!...House or Watson..In default, Jobe.

It was on his 116th pitch, and all the reports say his fastball plays way up because of its movement. That pitch is way more of a sure thing than any tool House or Watson has.

He had a couple 96s to finish the 7th. Great performance. Command seemed tighter than usual.

I think a good comparison for the fastball is Jonathan Papelbon, who never threw the hardest (mostly mid 90’s) but had a plus plus fastball due to ridiculous exploding life. Which makes me wonder if Leiter could add a splitter.
Usually these pitchers who live off rising four seamers up in the zone (Clemens, Schilling, Papelbon, Ohtani) all throw splitters to mess with hitters eye levels.

Scouts say Leiter's fastball is elite. mid+ 90s with lots of action. The broadcast last night noted that he tunnels his 4 pitches very well, 2 and 2, keeping hitter's off balance even if they choose which tunnel to be sitting on. What I like best about him is that he has the pedigree, and that seems to contribute heavily to his very high compete level. The big moment doesn't seem to give him trouble.

Despite the end result, sending him out for the 8th was malpractice. Earlier in the broadcast they were talking about how Al Leiter threw 140 pitches in a world series game, and that Jack would never come close to that... Alas he was too close for comfort!
He's a stud though. Some refinement of the secondaries and he could be a real force.

I think the key for Leiter is developing the change or maybe a splitter mentioned above. Something to help against lefties. He had a decent one in HS so we’ll see.

Let's hope because I think Leiter will get to us...whether by teams' choices on their scouting or because of rumors/machinations Leiter wants Boston. His pedigree, as someone mentioned, will obviously help. It seemed Tampa focused hard on drafting pitching so perhaps that is in Bloom's 'DNA'.
