Also Kumar pitching this evening wish him well. If his velocity returns and he becomes a top 4 guy again then he pushes some SSs down to us or hey maybe we grab him. If I'm picking this guy at 4, he has to be throwing 96-98 with no semblance of arm trouble. 89-92 doesn't do it. Hell except for painter Andriese, just about all our guys are in the mid 9Os or above. That's today's (and tomorrow's) baseball. And Kumar is a thrower with iffy command. Bad, light 'em up combo....No thank you. Leiter, yes. Mayer, Lawlar, yes. If those guys are gone, we are more into the land of iffy and hope for. [b Well, to your point

J. Lawlar 25 games 16ks to 14bb 3hrs .433 avg has 3 errors. Whiffing that many times against HS pitching has to be a serious concern. And how real is his pop 3 hrs in 25 games is pretty light pop for a HS hitter.
Marcelo Mayer could only get stats for 8 games for him. Zero ks that's what you would like to see against HS pitching. .381 2hrs 3 errors in 8 games a .800 fielding% kinda weak. I keep hearing he is a long-term ss at the next level doesn't seem that way with that fielding %.
Neither of these guys jump off the page. Maybe it is a weak draft if those two are in the top 4.

Exactly why the whole time I’ve said Brady House for 4. Won’t end up at shortstop but has high potential to be an elite hitter

To that point checkout old House’s line. Like 20 walks , 4 Ks, 8 dingers, Hitting like .550. It’s HS...but doing what he should. Lawlar, Mayer, House, Watson. I think these are the guys now. Kumar just not looking good, 91-93 again allowing 3 homers. The shine is officially off.

Sorry, House hitting .585, OBP pretty much .700.

Months ago Steveofbradenton, a sage observer/evaluator, tabbed House...
Obviously there have been injuries but wow, how fluid is the draft prospect positioning?...and likely to continue for 2 more months. That's lots of time for ups/downs and surprise emergence.
All sports drafts are, to a degree, inexact despite the mountains of data and analysis on players, but baseball is still very much the epitome of a crapshoot.
We are likely not to pick fourth again in my lifetime so I sure as hell hope that Bloom "mind melds" with Univac or Spock.

Frelick a possibility at #4?? Though Law appears to have a suspiciously large number of guys in his top 5....

I may be over simplying this but if law is saying as of right now Rocker won't fall from top 5 and that frelick and Davis are top 5 picks now there's 3 out 5 and I'm assuming Leiter is in there that's 4 of the top 5. Is he not very high on the high school guys like Mayer, Lawlar and house?

I don't see Frelick as a top 6 pick. I believe he's more in the 8-20 range. Rocker has too many unknowns. I'm not interested in him, personally.

I like Keith Law but sometimes he throws me a little. For example I heard that Jud Fabian doesn’t have a problem against sliders but high heat. In addition in his last ranking he said Kumar’s only real weapon was his fastball and needed to develop a good secondary?? Which is probably the opposite of what everyone else says. Anyway...

Might be personal but I don’t ever truly trust Keith law and his evaluations. The guys at baseball America, espn, and fangraphs I always trust a ton more when it comes to player rankings for drafts and minor league rankings.

I wouldn’t want number 1 or 2 on this draft. But if we get Lawlar or Mayer I’m good to go.

And from a local San Diego guy I will say the HS baseball scene here is sick. Mayer’s league ain’t cheap.

I'm hoping that two of the top teams in the draft are stupid enough to pass on pitching and we end up with leiter or rocker. And looking at the teams picking above us they might be the right teams for the job.

Giving Gunnar Hoglund a little attention who I believe had 70 Ks in 43.2 innings going into this weekend's matchup. Thats 14.4 K/9 after putting up 14.3K/9 in the abbreviated 2020 season.

Where pitchers arms go in a split second. Yeah no thanks. Let’s hope Red Sox are smarter than this. I mean my gosh 2 months ago some were saying hill should be our pick. Have we not learned anything?

If you're interested in seniors that are legit prospects and could represent wise savings signings in Rounds 2-5, this week's draft stock watch features a pair: Matt Mikulski, LHP, Fordham and Riley Tirotta, 3B, Dayton. Link via Prospects Live
