creative.....international slot money can be useful. Must not have been much of a market.

Hmmm, any chance the PTBNL is worth anything? It satisfies the goal of getting worse in 2020, so that's good...

They were one of the few teams that really needed an outfield defense upgrade.
The Giants could really use a CF to move Mike Yaz back to RF, as Austin Slater is hurt. If I had to guess on JBJ, he goes there for a similar return.
It's not clear that JBJ is an upgrade over DeShields for the Indians, who just got Josh Naylor to play LF. But they're the other club that was thought to be in ned.

Good stuff. Pillar is a guy they absolutely had to trade.

Cesar Puello first, one would hope. There's room for Duran when and if they feel he's ready, wuth Lin redundant to Arauz.

Sweet. A PTBNL means a non-60, so a younger guy. Hopefully a nice lottery ticket with upside rather than a high minors guy.
And I like the Internantional Money. More prospects.

Anyone have a guess on what level of prospect we landed in the Pillar Deal? Top 20

Anyone have a guess on what level of prospect we landed in the Pillar Deal? Top 20 Safe bet. Probably closer to 15-20. Can't see Boston getting anything better given the value Pillar has.

Just looking at their prospects, I have no idea, but Kaufman at 13, who was 77th overall last year, or Weatherby at 18, who was a 3rd rounder this year are promising pitchers. They would be an unlikely but really great return. Probably more someone just outside the 20s. A kid like Adael Amador is a 17 year old Dominican shortshop that got $1.5 mil last year and is their 24th ranked kid. That's a lottery ticket.

Anyone have a guess on what level of prospect we landed in the Pillar Deal? Top 20 Nothing great. The international money will probably be the main benefit of that trade. I trust CB to make good use of it. Pillar wasn't making that much, so I can't imagine that we're giving the Rox enough money to move the needle on the quality of the PTBNL coming back. Pillar's value depends on whether someone else wanted him too. He's not a base-stealer, but he could be Dave Roberts in the post-season.

Anyone have a guess on what level of prospect we landed in the Pillar Deal? Top 20 I'd guess 35-45 since it's likely to be someone without much of a track record. Looking at that range of the system something like a Brock Bell or Darel Belen type, which I'd be happy with. edit: I'm talking about 35-45 in our system, not sure about theirs.

Riley Pint listed at #30 on their MLB rankings... hadn't heard that name in a while.

If they got a top 40 prospect I'll be happy. If they get top 20 I'll do backflips. (Note: I will not actually do backflips, that is not within my physical capabilities).

I'm more interested in how much international money we're getting than I am in the PTBNL. I won't get excited about a prospect who has a 5-percent chance of ever contributing to the RS as opposed to one who has a 3-percent chance of ever contributing to the RS.

I guess I'm confused, because at best the Inernational money of less than a million in a class that's been mosty signed will have a 2% chance. As for the PTBNL, last year the Sox got a trash pitcher Andrew Cashner from Baltimore for two just-signed J2 kids, Noelberth Romero (275K, and .264 in the DSL) and Elio Prado (85K, and .300 in the DSL). Hard to do any sort of apples to apples, but 1) Pillar is miles better than Cashner, 2) Sox are getting value (one prospect) rather than volume (two prospects). You'd hope that would mean one prospect better than the combined two decent kids the Sox gave up. I'd take Amodor in a heartbeat, though Colorado invested a lot in him recently (he was their top J2 in 2019) www.purplerow.com/2019/7/2/20678900/mlb-international-signing-rockies-adael-amador

I guess Bloom really did fleece the Padres on the Moreland deal, because he and Pillar are similar players in terms of value to me. I know Moreland has a cheap club option, but that’s not saying much for a guy who’s pretty replaceable.
Looks like Chaim tried to rob someone else with Pillar but there weren’t any other Prellers around and so he had to settle for this. Something’s better than nothing though.

We have no way to judge this trade like this yet. We don't know who the player is coming back nor how much IFA cap money they got.

For those who want to see Duran you can see more of him in the sim-games than you would if he was called up. I watched one inning where he walked and the pinch ran for him so he could bat again. He's also hit for "both sides" in a game I watched. If I recall in one instance he came in from CF to bat. These aren't your usual baseball games.
