I'll be annoyed if he signs for 2/14, cuz I'd sure rather have him than Kiké Hernandez at the same price. I'd guess 2/20 though.
I don’t think it’s a guarantee that JBJ is better than KIki going forward. On top of that 2B has been a hole the last 3 years.
You beat me to it......JBJ does not play 2B, which is where Hernandez will a significant amount of reps. I would love to see the RS add JBJif they could get him for a year or two.

Oh I think that's definitely possible. In fact I think we'll appreciate Kiké's Brock Holtish versatility and energy. I'm just not a big fan of the outfield as it's constituted.
With JBJ, they would have plus defenders in CF and RF - big in Fenway - and a Franchy/Renfroe platoon that seems like it would be perfectly adequate in LF. Without JBJ, they have Verdugo as, hopefully though not definitely, a plus defernder in CF, and then a bunch of guys who seem to be about average defensively. With Moreland also gone, does the team have more than one above average defensive player? That's not a great plan for backing up a pitching situation that is still a bit tenuous. (I want guys like Houck and Pivetta to have confidence in their fielders.) Even if Duran comes up at some point he wouldn't be adding plus defense.
Meanwhile, an injury or a day off to any of Kiké, Marwin, Franchy, or Verdugo, and we're stuck with Renfroe facing righties, which is something I'm really not looking forward to seeing. In other words, that versatility could be used up in a hurry. Or Franchy could flame out, and then we're in a similar situation. The offense could end up being pretty weak against righties.
I do think versatility is important, and having Kiké and Marwin to mix and match is valuable. But they seem to have purchased that at the cost of defense, and possibly offense against righties.
Of course it's a moot point if JBJ signs for 3/30 or something, which would admittedly not make much sense for the Red Sox. But if it's 2/14? I would've taken that.

Sox should be good citizens and help SEA with their problem. Offer Mata + Rosario for Kelenic.
May need some of these 2/3 for 1s soon. Some this team is going to have some real 40 man roster issues
Eh, are they? I count 4 pitchers, at least, I'd be ok with DFAing still.
"We really don't need the whole commercial break/warm-up routine every time a new reliever comes into the game. It certainly made sense in 1884 when they only switched pitchers when the starter was attacked by pickaxe or caught consumption, and no reliever was warming up because he was busy gambling and drinking." - JD
I still think I'm going to wake up and say "I shouldn't listen to the podcast before bed, I dreamed the Sox signed a guy from Curaçao named Charlie Zink." - KOC

Is anybody going to be added to the 40 man soon?? As far as prospects?
What do you mean by "soon?" Just someone making their debut who isn't on the 40-man?
I mean sure, they might call guys up during the year, but guys are going to get hurt, underperform, etc. I wouldn't worry now about whether, say, they'd have room to call up a Duran in June. Lots can change.

Marlins sign Gio Gonzalez. $1 million if he sticks.
He is an interesting signing. He was not good last year, but he was 2 WAR in 2019, and as recently as 2017 6.5 WAR! There is no indication of health issues. He seems like a really good, cheap signing.
Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth — Professor Mike Tyson
Maybe he will quit listening the Boras, and realize he is not getting a 4 or 5 year contract and resign with the Red Sox for a couple years.
how much salary space do the Sox have right now?
Honestly... who cares? We can probably reset the luxury tax next year if needed. This team can compete. Give it the depth to do so. I don’t feel like losing prospect capital at the deadline if our boys are in the thick of things.
Thats an insane deal for JBJ. Boras crushes it like 95% of the time.
I remember looking at projections and thinking the consensus was 2/$22.
I'm happy that he found a home in a good baseball town and for a respectable team (i.e., not with Philly or Houston). Avisail Garcia becomes the 4th OF, and they really didn't have one.
"You either need some medication or you're an a******." -- David Ortiz correctly diagnosing Bobby Valentine
If Boras' strategy is to hold out as long as necessary in order to get the best deal possible, perhaps we should wait to see what deal he gets before judging Boras' strategy?
I’ve never seen so much love for a sub-league average player. We all know he was huge during the 2018 postseason run, but this site is ridiculous. He was a lousy hitter and maddening to watch.

Maddening to watch if you close your eyes for half of each game. In the other half he was majestic.
But I actually enjoyed watching his at bats too, as frustrating as it could be at times. I realized recently that he sort of brainwormed me in the same way slot machines do for some people. I.e., slot machines pay out just often enough for you to stay hopeful for the next big payout coming just around the corner. Since I always knew it was just a matter of time until his next hot streak I was glued to those ABs, thinking "Maybe this is the one!"
And of course when he was actually on his hot streaks it was just pure joy.
