Playing Teague here is indefensible. Brad is honestly a bad in-game coach.

Second straight game with a dude going off for 40 points against us.

The Teague down the stretch stuff is unacceptable, idc that they’re down both Smart and Kemba
Jaylen looked like he got Monstar’d that game

Brad Stevens is a bad coach and Jeff Teague is not an NBA player, AMA. Its not a coincidence we are 4-0 in games that Teague gets 0 minutes.

I'm not a big Teague fan, yet he should have been playing more. He's a veteran PG and we need that with Smart and Walker out. Keep it simple, run the offense, #1 job is to create for others, drive to pass and take open three point shots.
I don't get Green with no Smart or Walker. Should have been a ton of Pritchard, then Teague.
Steven's isn't a bad coach, it's a flawed roster. He's trying to figure out how to use it, yet he's not doing a very good job at that. It times to assign roles and not keep switching them. It's time to start players based on those roles.
I get it slightly, hope Green can slowdown Young, that's a better matchup on D than Pritchard. Yet it kills the offense and results in poor ball movement. Asking way too much of Tatum and Brown. Then you start Thompson and Semi, who along with Green give you one assist.

This may be weird coming from me, since I’ve been a Pritchard cheerleader since they took him, but I understand not starting him. I think it was wrong, but I get it. There was talk about making Walker the 6th man and Pritchard the starter (which I also sort of agree with), but Pritchard was all out of sorts in his first start. It’s going to be an adjustment period for him figuring out where he fits starting. Off the bench he looks more comfortable being aggressive and picking his spots. That was not there in the one start. Personally, I think the adjustment period would be worth it, but Brad may not have felt that way in a game with no depth to begin with. If that was Brads thought, I get it.

With Brooklyn et al looking like they could dismantle us easily in the playoffs, this year is all about getting the young guys up to speed. Gotta get PP to the point where he can get us into the offense easily bc kemba isn’t gonna play more back to backs next year and beyond.

...it honestly makes sense Does it? You wouldn’t give Hayward his contract but you’re going to pay an older and worse Horford similar money?

I don't like the contract and I'm certainly not trading a first round pick. Yet as a fall back option, if they'd take Thompson's deal it could make sense. That really makes it around 17 million over the next two years for Horford, last year 14.5 is guaranteed. So it would give you a contract to trade for a few years.
Horford fits better than Hayward on this team. He adds scoring, D and can help create offense. He could actually play with Theis and Robert Williams because he can score and create.
Would leave you enough money to still get Lonzo Ball.
Unlikely for sure, I'd most likely go try and get a guy like Cousins. Yet Horford has also been a perfect fit for what Steven's does on offense and defense.

He wasn't good in his first start, yet that can happen with a rookie. Unless they are getting another PG they need to get him ready. I would only have done this if he kept looking like he did his first start over 3-4 games. Yet it seems Steven's is trying to break the record for most starting five combination in a season. It's so crazy hard to build chemistry, play team ball and communicate on D when you just keep rotating in new players. I mean Damn he's starting to run out of combinations. If Steven's felt that way, which isn't crazy he should have started Teague. I have the guy, yet he can do many things Green can't do. Sometimes you just need to scrap D and outscore teams. Green isn't going to help stop Young if he just keeps bombing away from ten feet behind the three point line.

Do Tatum and Brown take the huge step they have creating with Hayward here? Does Hayward put up the numbers he is while in Boston? I don't think the issue has been Hayward leaving. It's the you replaced him with Thompson instead of a big that can score or a guy like Crowder that is killing us. Then you replace Wanamaker who was damn solid, ran our offense and played good D, with Teague.

And yes, I think Tatum and Brown are playmakers regardless - they made that leap in the playoffs.. Tatum did anyways. I mean aren’t you looking for someone else to be a playmaker besides those two right now? Hayward’s counting numbers, especially points are lower here, but his efficiency is off the charts. I disagree that current Al is a better fit, but don’t disagree they should have replaced Hayward with someone else.

It's all on Danny. I think thats a fair point, who is Brad supposed to play with that roster... That said I would rather have Tremont out there than Teague. I just hope we can turn it around, man. I've been so negative because i really believe with 1 extra piece and a few better fringe moves we could legitimately compete for a championship.

What we are seeing now is a depth issue. How many games have they had their 4 best players all on the court together? It can’t be many and it certainly wasn’t any that didn’t include the earliest Kemba games. Sometimes situations like these create depth tho by giving guys playing time they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. Maybe Semi and Nesmith become players this year because of this and come playoff time, everyone is back, Kemba is more comfortable and Tatum isn’t having COVID fatigue.

Yet look at the minutes he's played. If Walker keeps missing games, you have Pritchard taking Walkers spot and Teague taking Wanamaker spot. It's not a simple switch based on minutes right now. Tatum made the leap in the playoffs when Hayward went down, it's what sparked this conversation the first time. Brown made the leap this year with no Hayward. Yeah but I want a big or PG doing it. I would say a big that can give you close to what Hayward did in assists without needing the ball as much is more valuable. I think Horford is and has always been the better defender. Hayward dominated the ball last year, leading the team with the time he had the ball in his hands. Yet Horford's contract does give me pause. I keep coming back to the fact no player will adjust as quickly as he will in our system though.

I like these graphs by Goldsberry. He does them every few weeks. I'm kind of shocked it's the offense holding the team back more than defense.
No one in the East is excelling in both.

Our offense comes from our defensive intensity and that’s been lacking. I think you would see a much bigger leap on offense with a small increase on the defensive side.

If he’s all you can get for the TPE then I’d take him for the contract to trade, if nothing else, but I’m waiting until the TPE is about to expire so I wouldn’t be adding it to this years team. Interesting note, I’m pretty sure in your theoretic deal where they take Thompson’s contract. The way the deal would need to be structured, if no one other than Horford came back here, the Celtics would get another TPE for Thompson’s contract.

I'm certainly torn over Horford, yeah if you can get a Gordon from the Magic you want that. Yet if I'm trading for Horford it's this year. How much has Horford declined? His age 30 season, his first in Boston and his current age 34 season are damn similar. He's actually scoring, rebounding more and shooting more three's at a higher clip. His defensive rating was 107 and is 108 this year on a crappy team with the league scoring more this year on average. He's currently 9th in RPM among centers and you know that goes up going to Boston with better players. You could do that trade a few different ways, as the Thunder have three big trade exceptions that Thompson fits into. Yet that's also a negative because they won't really value getting a big exception for Horford. If you want to go for it the next few years and are willing to pay the tax and take some risk Horford is likely the best option. He literally checks ever box that we need in a big, would be a massive upgrade over Thompson, while allowing you to dump Thompson. While not perfect, Horford with his D, passing, scoring and shooting would fit next to Theis and Robert Williams better than Thompson does. The pause is a younger option and the injury risk. I can't get the thought of both Walker and Horford potentially going down in the playoffs out of my head.
