“I had no idea until the last out” and “I was locked in to the game” seem like contradictory sentiments.

Not only is Wander Franco the youngest player in baseball, he's 21 months younger than the second youngest, Garrett Crochet of the Whit Sox. 21 months, almost 10% of his life.

“I had no idea until the last out” and “I was locked in to the game” seem like contradictory sentiments. I don't see these as contradictory at all. If you're locked into the game you don't care about what happened in innings 1-8, you probably only really care about how many runs you're ahead and making sure you win the game.

Depends what the cost to trade for him would be and that kind of goes without saying but signing him to an extension would make it a better move in my mind. I'm not sure they have the bullets to get it done but I'd be more content giving up guys in the top 10 for someone staying another few years than a rental.

If scherzer signed a 2 year extension in the 25-30 mil a year range I think I'd be okay with a package around downs and Jimenez. Would that be enough? To me it's mostly a move for next year since you'd have scherzer and sale to lead the rotation but scherzer could give them a shot this year too. It'd remind of the schilling deal where you add a legit number 1 who is at the tail end of his career to make a run.

Why would the Nationals trade Scherzer? They're 2nd in the NL East with 4 games back, they'll get Strasburg back and they have Juan Soto. They're competing for the division.

Josh Naylor just had a NSFL/NFL type injury in the Indians game.
That’s all I am going to say.
I won’t post the replay here. For obvious reasons

He's incredible, took that ball off the inner edge of the plate out opposite field with ease. After a double and triple in his previous two at bats.

Terry Francona on Josh Naylor: "We know that there's a fracture. Other than that, he's being evaluated over at the hospital right now. We'll know more, I hope, in a couple hours. We're not even sure if he can travel home with us."

Was digging into Renfroe on baseball reference and came across the Tampa-San Diego Renfroe trade. That one's looking rough for Tampa even though it looked somewhat reasonable at the time. They sent Pham (1.8 bWAR) and Cronenworth (3.4 bWAR, full 6 years of control at the time) for Renfroe, Xavier Edwards, and old friend Esteban Quiroz. Xavier Edwards is admittedly a nice prospect, but with Renfroe non-tendered and now on fire this really has to hurt.

After sending a ball into orbit in his first at bat against the MFY, the "chicken" is now leading the Majors in Home Runs 😂 He's a video-game character lmao

I watched the end of the LAA @ TB game that put the RS back on top. This is Ohtani's insurance home run in the 9th. Shohei Ohtani's solo home runThe sound is just mesmerizing ... i mean the trop is empty and silent (as usual) but it almost sounds like a aluminum bat. A true DING~~~~er...incredible guy

I'm watching the MFY game tomorrow.
I don't enjoy watching Martin Perez anyway.

He’s definitely got a shot, Cy Young will be tricky for him though
Probably the best pure talent I’ve ever seen. He’s the best power hitter in a league filled with them and he’s a top of the rotation starter. Like what on earth are we witnessing right now? It’s quite special
It’s like Prince Fielder and Justin Verlander combined powers

He’s the best power hitter in a league filled with them and he’s a top of the rotation starter. Like what on earth are we witnessing right now? It’s quite special It’s like Prince Fielder and Justin Verlander combined powers He is so unique. Yes there have been two way players. Babe Ruth and Joe Wood come to mind quickly, but in Ruth's case, he really only had one season doing what Ohtani is doing. He was almost exclusively a pitcher with the Red Sox from 1914 - 1917. In 1918 he was doing double duty being a top flight starter for them and spending time in LF (Without looking it up I believe he was tied for the league lead with 11 homers). In 1919, I think he started playing the OF regularly without doing much pitching. He bashed a then record 29 HRs. By 1920 he was a Yankee and he hardly pitched at all - I'd say an average of about 1 game per year during his Yankee career. Smokey Joe was an ace pitcher for the Sox through 1915, hurt his arm - was never quite the same pitcher after slipping in wet grass in 1913 trying to field a ball, retired, and then joined his friend Tris Speaker in Cleveland and became a good hitting outfielder and contributed to the Indians' 1920 championship. Lefty O'Doul did a lot of pitching in the minors but made his mark in the majors in the late 20s/early 30s as a lifetime .349 hitter. But Ohtani is doing both in the same season and succeeding wildly. I hate that the Sox blew the game to the Angels when Trout hit a 2 out blooper off Barnes in the 9th and Ohtani wrapped one around the foul pole to give the Angels the game winner, but if anybody was going to do it, I'm glad it was Ohtani - he is a marvel. I enjoy him in the same awestruck way I enjoyed watching Nolan Ryan pitch.

Ohtani has 3.4 fWAR hitting and 1.3 pitching (3.3 and 2.4 on BRef). He's 0.9 bWAR ahead of anyone else, but tied with Vladito and just 0.3 ahead of deGrom in fWAR.
We'll have to see how much he keeps up doing both this year, but it will make for a fascinating MVP discussion if he does.
