Luzardo isn’t a free agent until after the 2026 season. So that’s 5+ years of Luzardo for two months of Marte. Interesting move by the A’s.

If I were an A's fan I'd hate it, but at this point the A's are only 1 game ahead of Seattle for the Wild Card, the same M's who traded away their closer. And the Yankees, despite all the messes they have made, are only 2.5 games behind the A's. The A's have to improve their club if they want to grab that second wild card. They have scuffled and are no longer a shoo-in for the 2nd wild card. That said, this trade will bite them in the butt down the road. They must figure that given their ballpark, they can find a pitcher so easily it doesn't matter. It'll be interesting to see who the Marlins eventually trade Luzardo for if/when he develops and they can't afford him.

I get the team control aspect, and I get that Luzardo still has a lot of prospect clout but honestly, are we that convinced he's a good pitcher? He has yet to put together any real success as a starter while at the major league level and, while I get he's only 23, he's been actively terrible this year. I know he was considered a top prospect by many for a long time but this maybe feels like the A's have become less sold on his future as a fixture in their rotation and are trying to sell high on name value while they can. If the A's don't extend or re-sign him (which, given the Marlins are sending money over, they are positioning themselves as unlikely to do so) yeah it's probably not a good move, but I don't think it's as bad for the A's as many seem to.

Yimi Garcia is on the verge of being traded to the Astros.
Houston has been shoring up their one big weakness, bullpen. First Graveman and now Garcia are being added to the bullpen.

Wrong forum for you to post this. When I see you post, I figure we're getting a news item. I thought you were bringing us trade news. False alarm.

Wow, looks like 14, 15, 17, 23 and 28th ranked prospects according to MLB.com…plus Randy Vazquez according to the MLB trade rumors report, Not sure if that return is accurate. Smith, Duran, Perreira and Otto all having very good seasons as well. Hauver also having a good season with Gallo like bb/k numbers with 64 walks and 78 k’s in 229 at bats…has managed a .943 OPS.

Aaaand Texas will pay BOTH Gallo's and Rodriguez's salary...of course...
As if the return wasn't light enough already...Cashman pulled the rabit out of the hat

Gallo is a good player but he's kind of just a left handed version of judge and Stanton. He'll hit some majestic home runs. They'll win some blowouts when they get the home run ball going. Not saying he won't help them but he got 6 million this year for arbitration. Probably go up to 10 or so next year which is 10 million less they'll have to spend on pitching which if you ask me they need more than another home run hitting outfielder with a low BA.

They got to keep their elite prospects. Did some damage to their org depth though
Def worth it for them but I don’t see it making them a ton better

I hate Gallo, and I hate the Yankees. I think I am the big winner in this.

The MFY have 62 games left, so he is on pace for additional 2.2 WAR and that clown stadium may boost his slugging aswell. That's a significant upgrade! (Scherzer is at 2.5 fWAR atm, just for comparison) And since the prospect cost was low they might add a second piece...they are certainly making a push

Hahahahaha
Why the hell is Boone leaving Cole in a 4-0 game after 103 pitches in the 6th inning with the bases loaded? They only had like a 1% chance of winning.

I just used my Win Probability calculator app and it said the Yankees had a 1.8% chance of winning when it was 4-0 Rays with the bases loaded with one out in the 6th.
Perfect time to leave Cole in with 103 pitches.

To humiliate him, obviously! Boone is growing on me! They're desperate this year, so they're going to ride Cole like a rented mule. But he's not. They need him over the majority of the life of his contract. They're going to burn him out.

Glasnow getting TJ surgery next week, per Passan. He'll be out until at least late 2022, but more likely the start of 2023.
