Almost as good as Bo, almost.... Didn't even need to do that.

That catch is getting a lot of attention for being kind of a mis-read. Would've been really cool if climbing the wall had actually helped him make the catch I guess.

A run of bad news for for the Yankees. Cole tested positive for COVID so he has to quarantine, German is already on the 10-day IL with shoulder inflammation, and Urshela is headed thre as well with a hamstring strain.

I just read that J.R.Richard passed away. I heard about him when I was little. I didn't know he was 6'8". He had a tough luck career. R.I.P. I vividly remember JR Richard. I started watching baseball in 1980 when I was kid, and don't remember his coming out party of going from a pitcher with great stuff who was wild to becoming the Randy Johnson of his day, but as fearsome as Nolan Ryan was to face, I think you can make a good argument that JR Richard was more intimidating to face. By the time 1980 rolled around he was the all-star game starter, and less than a month later he was felled by a stroke, at the age of 30. He recovered to the point of trying to make a comeback but he was never anywhere near the same. There were drugs and homelessness and him getting his life back together again. I had the opportunity to meet him a couple of years ago at a baseball banquet where he was the guest speaker. He was very religious by then. Although he did let his guard down to tell a juicy story about Joaquin Andujar, his former teammate. Of course, his wife gave him a look and that was the end of that story. I think had JR Richard never had that stroke, the Houston Astros might very well have won their first World Series in 1980. As it was they pushed the Phillies to the brink without Richard. With him, it's not hard to imagine they win the NLCS and then overpower the Royals in the World Series the way the Phillies did. RIP JR Richard.

I remember Ryan and Richards being the 1-2 of that staff. What an amazing 1-2.

I remember Ryan and Richards being the 1-2 of that staff. What an amazing 1-2. That staff was loaded. They not only had the fireballers, but 20 game winner knuckleballer Joe Niekro, Ken Forsch, and Vern Ruhle with Joaquin Andujar as the number 6 starter. They had Dave Smith and Joe Sambito as the main relievers. Jeez, of their 6 starters only Nolan Ryan is still living. Dave Smith passed away too.

I swear I've killed about 1000 times more brain cells than you. lol You have an amazing memory. There was a time that I knew every single player on every roster, when I was playing APBA as obsessively as I do everything else like post on message boards. But I have long forgotten them by now.

Give this a try: www.sporcle.com/games/lineupquizzes/redsoxThere's a clear drop in my knowledge right when I graduated and got a job.

There was a time that I knew every single player on every roster, when I was playing APBA as obsessively as I do everything else like post on message boards. But I have long forgotten them by now. I'm a baseball card collector and team collecting is kind of my thing as I attack it (or try to) from a historian's point of view. I remember Gordy Pladson being on that staff, too, as I try to collect everybody who was on the roster that had a card. So that's how I tend to remember these kinds of things. As it is, 1980 is a special season for me because that's the year I became a baseball fan and when something is new, it's really vivid, so I remember JR Richards having a stroke, George Brett chasing .400, the Astros winning their first division title, the Royals finally beating the Yankees, the Phillies finally winning their first World Series, and the Red Sox going from 50-50, sixth place, 13 games out, to 72-56, 3rd place, 6.5 games out, to 83-77, tied for 4th, 19 games out and bye-bye Don Zimmer.

Herbert Schlosser, the NBC exec who came up with the idea for SNL had died. Turns out he invited Bowie Kuhn to watch the first episode with him:

Rizzo has covid, so now everybody complaining about getting Schwarber over him can kindly be quiet It was pointed out that his refusal to get vaccinated was a real risk the acquiring team was taking on, and now here we are. Sometimes foresight is 20/20.
And most likely he won't have a bad case of it (apparently he has "light symptoms" so far), but it's a lot more likely that he will than if he were vaccinated.

Still 10 to 14 days for unvax, right?
