When is the MILB season gonna start? Worcester, Portland, Greenville, and Salem all start their seasons on May 4 (at least that's the current plan).

Expanding on this, Joe McDonald is reporting that they will play two games in Brooklyn this weekend and two games next weekend in Worcester. No word on if these games will be streamed/broadcasted.

Initial thoughts: the announcer is obsessed with hair length.

Interesting that Gonsalves is being stretched out as a starter.

Interesting that Gonsalves is being stretched out as a starter. So, the team has an array of starters - in the majors, and guys coming up in the minors - as well as potential starters with Whitlock at the top of that list. That's the one commodity that teams can never have or get enough of. The short answer to this is that having one more starter type only gives the FO even more options either in-house, or on the trade market. I'm continually impressed by the level of contingency planning and forethought they are bringing to the table.

Interesting that Gonsalves is being stretched out as a starter. I actually don't understand that thought. His history is as a starter, his FB velocity returned to previous levels this past summer at band camp where he was used as a starter and he had decent control. He's a 3 pitch left handed pitcher with a previous ranking pedigree Why would you assume reliever ? He was a free agent, I can't see his signing here to be a reliever.

The fastball ticking up came while pitching in relief, I believe.

He was used as a starter almost the entire time and it wasn''t a "tick up" in the usual sense, it was a return to old levels almost from the start..

Will try to research the velo thing as I don't recall clearly enough to debate the issue, but he definitely was being used as a reliever later in the ATS and that's when he became interesting. I am quite certain of that. And if we want to quibble about whether or not the velo was a return to prior form or not, McMillan noted at that end-of-ATS presser that he had "boosted his fastball velocity from 89-90 miles per hour to 94-96" over the course of the ATS, not almost from the start. www.bostonglobe.com/2020/11/02/sports/red-sox-re-sign-nine-minor-leaguers-add-depth/

He looked good, and as the Red Sox do not have a lot of LHP depth IMO, he could definitely get a shot in Boston at some point, more likely as a reliever than starter in Boston though. (God help us if we have run through the starting 5 plus Houck, Seabold, and Sale. Gonsalves would be at least 9th on the depth chart).

Nothing says spring baseball like two DHs! (Not sure exactly what happened when as I wasn't scoring the game, but Wong caught first with Herrmann in the late innings, Puello and Wilson both played left, and the original Ockimey 1B/Chavis 2B/Downs SS/Araúz 3B infield switched to Ockimey/Lopez/Araúz/De La Guerra. Pitchers were indeed the three predicted. Pretty sure the final was 9-1 Sox. Also it was cold. I have seen plenty of oven mitts on baserunners, but I have never seen this on an outfielder...

Bonus reports like today’s on the ATS for patreon supporters make patreon status a real bargain.

WooSox jerseys today say "Los Wepas de Worcester" in their exhibition against the ATS Mets on www.pscp.tv/w/1eaKbnVgdXZKX"It appears that the Worcester Red Sox, or WooSox to friends, will play as Los Wepas de Worcester in the program. The WooSox, who will make their debut in their new home in 2021 after relocating from Pawtucket, have not announced the alternate brand officially, but it was posted today by the prolific Twitter account @milbpromos. The logo features the legend “¡Wepa!” with the WooSox’s heart-W, as well as a muscular anthropomorphic firework. The term “Wepa” is a Spanish-language exclamation similar to “Woo Hoo” in English used primarily by Puerto Ricans. According to Dictionary.com, “Wepa is a versatile Latin-American Spanish slang exclamation used to express excitement, congratulations, and joy, similar to the English Oh yeah!, Wow!, or That’s awesome!” news.sportslogos.net/2021/04/18/woosox-likely-to-play-as-los-wepas-de-worcester-in-copa-games/baseball/
