Man if we get 2019 JD back that’s huge, I feel people are just kinda taking that for granted because I thought he might be done after last season/this spring. Now if you can add 2019 Rafa to the mix, we’re in business. I think we have enough quality depth that the pitching will be fine eventually.

Remember also the Sullivan getting hit in the rumpus for a W.. Then him pointing to it just in case anybody in the stadium missed it! Forget which team the balk was against, tho do remember Sox color guy then Monty yelling "A balk? Did he just balk?!?". Nothing by Ned martin, just that and whatever pitcher was out there complaining to one of the umps. Seattle the opponent maybe? It was against the Angels the balk occurred. Bob Boone was literally hopping mad. Todd Fischer was the pitcher and Dwight Evans was the runner on 3rd and I believe Rey Quinones was the batter. You don't see a game end like that often so it was memorable. I think this came after former Red Sox SS, Rick Burleson, playing 3b for the Angels, dropped a pop-up to keep the Red Sox alive. Wasn't the last time that year the Sox would hand the Angels an agonizing loss.

I kind of like JDM LF Vasquez DH. Give Vasquez a day to rest the legs but keep his bat (and JD’s) in the lineup.

Houck optioned ahead of E-Rod being activated tomorrow.

the Angels balk game was great because I believe the RS rallied late to get into extra innings and then the Angles scored like three in the top of the extra inning and the Sox came back with four all with two outs.
One other thing I noticed about the extra inning rule is how the scorekeepers keep the stats. When a pitcher comes in to pitch the extra inning and lets up the run from second he is not credited with an earned run. Which is correct, but not something I had considered. This extra inning rule might be a benefit to pitchers ERA, as you are a lot of the time going to get an out through a bunt, and that may shorten your inning.

Houck optioned ahead of E-Rod being activated tomorrow. It's kind of weird they did it today (technically after last night's game but same difference). Are they going to call up Brewer for one game? The only options are Brewer, Bazardo, Araúz, Chavis, Wilson

By optioning him on the 6th, they can recall him the morn of the 17th.
The optioned players cannot be recalled during first 10 days of the season. Earliest for Brewer, etc. is April 11th. (Regardless of when they were optioned on March) Injury exception is available.
The rule wasn't so strict years back

I am serious — not being snarky — I just asumme they would’t use Houck two days in a row, so he would just sit in Fenway today, anyway, I guess. Or am I missing a big picture thing?

If so then it makes perfect sense.

I think it's subject to blackout restrictions, but for those not in the area, today's game is being broadcast on YouTube

I think it's subject to blackout restrictions, but for those not in the area, today's game is being broadcast on YouTube I don’t think it’s subject to blackout. Either in right or I’m in for a nasty surprise when the pregame show turns to black in 14 minutes.

I’m 15 minutes into the pregame and I already hate the Youtube’ey feel of this broadcast

I hate that I can't listen to the game on the website 93.7 WEEI (No idea why this gets blacked out, but actual radio is ok), but seems they're letting me watch on redsox.com. I don't know if this is just a half inning thing or what.

Who is watching this game, and how? I've signed up twice for the free YouTube TV trial and now it's asking me to create an account for the third time.

A very fine play by Dalbec. Yep. He’s looked good over there so far. Assuming he can play 3B in a pinch, DH respectably, and cut the K rate a bit, he could be a really nice piece going forward... especially once JDM moves on and Casas (hopefully) claims 1B full time.
