I get he hit a home run in a big spot but Marwin has still been terrible but that is the beauty of it....he has been terrible....will likely be terrible....but you ham and egg your way to division titles. We got what we deserved, IMO. And it feels great. Then can we expect Franchy to hit one to the outfield in the next week?

What’s going on right now is what MLB has to eliminate if they want to speed up games. There should be NO mound visits unless it’s an injury or to remove the pitcher. And second visit to any pitcher by catcher, trainer etc should be automatic pitcher removal.

I am losing my patience with pitchers who can’t throw strikes. It is not much fun to watch Verdugo never have to swing, etc. This is just terrible baseball.

La Russa has a gnome-like quality as time goes on... Maybe it's the mask. He should learn how to wear the mask, drive a car, and manage a baseball team. Too harsh? I don't think so!

I get he hit a home run in a big spot but Marwin has still been terrible He somehow has a .370 OBP, and 99 wRC+ (or did until that groundout). That's pretty good, for his role on the team.

Using Barnes here in a 98% win expectancy situation, with a doubleheader tomorrow.

Using Barnes here in a 98% win expectancy situation, with a doubleheader tomorrow. He was warming anyway, so might as well.

not liking the energy of this inning so far. Don’t waste your reverse jinxes! You’ll need ‘em in tighter situations!

Maybe that's the case, but it seems to me that throwing ~20 live-game pitches would put greater wear on the pitcher than simply warming up alone.

But at least Barnes has a not great day when there is cushion?

I've just spent 35 minutes doing the most complex sabermetric calculations of my life, trying to figure out how the hell the Sox are doing this.
As is always the case, the conclusion is just a hypothesis that requires further testing. But it appears as if they are better than the teams they are playing.
And that is emphasis, not sarcasm!
Cora in the post-game on Marwin, more or less: "It's amazing the way people gravitate to him in the clubhouse."

I certainly hope they are better than the Orioles! They do look better than the Rays and Twins. They are at least catching the White Sox at a good time (at least after game one). Chicago may well launch later, though. They have a loy of (theoretically) good hitters off to bad starts.

(In truth, I suspect the fact that Barnes had a hard hit ball, only 1 K and no walks was a result of pitching to contact with the score being what it was more than Barnes being off his game.)

I agree. Looks like Barnes didn’t want to be in the business of walking people today with a large lead. Maybe the rest of the bullpen should take notes

Are we in agreement that Barnes' ERA will not be 0.00 this year (or any year)? So what better time to take the foot off the gas?

The RP are going to be getting overused this year across the league. There are lot of SP that can't make past 4 innings this year. That is why the RS are carrying 14 pitchers.
