That was a very painful appearance.

"Lead off walks always score." Temple
Also, this is brutal, but predictable in a tight game with all the squanders/GIDPs.

Ottavino has left the building. The building being my circle of trust. Never was in mine....9 walks in 10 innings. Good stuff no control...why? Why? WHY do you bring him in in a one run game??...EVER!!

And just like that they've pissed the whole game away.
Disgusting. Second game in this four-game set they've basically given away.

This one is on Cora. Bringing in Ottavino basically handed the game away.

These games happen. Too bad. Kind of a wasted series. Still, great road record and team appears to be solid. It's baseball. What can you do ?

WHY do you bring him in in a one run game??...EVER!! Because Cora says he wants guys to have "roles" and this is Ottovino's preordained role to be nails in the eighth, whether he belongs there or not. Much like Kiké's "role" being a lead-off hitter.

And now we're all swinging at the first pitch because getaway day, I guess.
I really miss the Red Sox teams that worked pitchers, controlled the strike zone and tried to run up counts.
After the surprise against the Mets, this was just a sour-tasting, mail-it-in performance against Texas.
It was also a reminder that, unless you have superb pitching, running 5 of your 9 out there who have OPS's under .700 (and in four cases, under .600) does not present a likely sustainable formula for winning, especially in the big boy American League.

You cannot be mentally softer than the Red Sox over the past 24 hours. Loser baseball.

Think of it this way.
Ottavino had to give up three runs at some time. Now the only question is when will be the next time?
Besides, Barnes barely used up an appearance.
The next thing you know, some poster is going to tell us that the June swoon has already begun.

Meh. These things happen. The main issue remains: the Sox can’t score enough if JDM and Devers are hitless. Yeah, the bottom of the lineup manufactured a run, and Renfroe grounded out to “drive in” a run... but they have too many holes.
The bottom four are batting .189, .191, .158, and .216. That is some rough pumpkins. Sub in Dalbec, you get .200. Then, flip up to the top, you have Kiké at .231. Until that changes, they’ll have days like this.
But.... it’s been that way all year, and things are ok. So... let this one go. The 8-21 Tigers could be the solution to all problems.

Well that sucked, rough start to May. Seems about the right time to have a minor league gameday thread to divert our attention.

Bloom has done one thing. Rebuilt Sox from the craphole dombrowski left us in. We had zero depth or sustainable team UNLESS we spent another 10-15% each year. It wasn’t the trades so much as the rich signings and trades that gutted our system. Margot on Sox is a starter right now. Eovaldi and sale were horrible extensions at the cost. Pom was not great and we gave up a highly rated starter for him. Bloom has done nothing yet to hurt us for tomorrow. Now I will question if he’s willing to go for the “knockout impact punch” at some time. This years trade deadline will be interesting if they are still in playoff mix. Benetendi we have no clue about yet because we don’t know the last 3 pieces. And Franchy has a ton of time to turn things around. The hardest part of youth or inexperience is allowing them time to stumble around and stay competitive. He’s doing exactly that! Dom builds winners. At expense of future years. It will be interesting to see if Phillies follow this pattern I was not a huge fan of Dombrowski - in fact I was pretty vocal in my objection of the Kimbrel (I was livid at losing Margot for a reliever) and Thornburg (ditto regarding Dubon and Shaw) trades, and not a huge fan of him extending Sale before the season or his post World Series moves (although I was all for retaining Eovaldi). But one thing I did respect was that he kept his focus firmly on the fact that an MLB team's first objective is to win at the MLB level. Also, he did resist the temptation/opportunity to trade Devers, Dalbec and a few others. In terms of who he did trade, sans the Sale deal which I think the bulk of us supported, other than Margot and Shaw, I'm trying to recall who he moved that "gutted" the system. Maybe I missed someone but most of the guys who went out the door were org guys. I agree with the part of your contention that the rich signings really hurt. In fact, in my mind that was the real "gutting." Extending an oft-injured Sale (coming off an injury, no less) before the 2019 season and resigning Pearce and Kelly (and many will say Eovaldi though I think he will earn out his contract using Fangraphs WAR to dollars conversion) using up a ton of salary when the team could've been improved - and even Henry saying "I didn't think we were going to bring back the exact same players." I know a lot of people now point to the Price signing but, again, I think the board was pretty supportive of that move when it was made and it gave up no prospects. Anyway, the model should be the Dodgers, and may be long term, but that won't happen until this organization learns how to draft and develop starting pitchers who are more than 5s at best. LAD has done this well under Friedman, as well as drafting and developing MLB-average or better position players, despite picking as low, if not lower than Boston. I would agree the gutting of system was the signings. But the Pom trade wasn’t the best, in so far that he dealt a highly rated starter for him. ( I realize it didn’t work out but that value could have been better spent elsewhere). Again bloom will always look for tomorrow ( he has as much stated it in interviews). The question will be how much of an extent does it affect the today. We most definitely have holes on this team. How will we plug them without trading to much of our future away
