5/4-5/6 Red Sox vs. Tigers Series Thread
|
Post by 75tillnow on May 6, 2021 13:45:59 GMT -5
We have given up 17 runs in 23 innings now vs a Tigers team that came into Boston 30th out of 30 MLB teams in team batting. At home. Yikes.

Even still, -0.5 WAR, has pop, and minimum salary until Bobby can figure out what's wrong at AAA. Not saying play him the year, but Bobby is just awful. He's unlucky, sure, but this is ridiculous. Even if it's for 3 weeks and release Albert afterwards. 4-4 to the freaking Tigers after losing yesterday and having lost 3 out of 4 to the Rangers. So frustrating. Well, it's either ride it out with Dalbec, give Chavis another crack, or sign Pujols, if not somebody else. Ideally whatever 1b filled in would be a lefty to balance out the lineup a bit, but I'll say this....if Dalbec continues to struggle and gets sent down and they don't think Chavis should get a crack, they might as well just get rid of him. I admit I had forgotten about Chavis. I want him to get consistent ABs in AAA for a long while though. I don't think he's really had that, but if they want to give him another chance, fine. Bobby needs to get his crap together in AAA with Franchy at this point. They don't have a good enough lineup to carry either of these guys.

And yes, I kind of expect the Sox to lose today too. Manfred put the whammy on the Sox saying the Tigers would be lucky to score 4 runs this series let alone a game. The fact of the matter is that the Sox are starting to resemble a .500 team more than a contender and are going to lose games they really shouldn't, and plus they just flat out suck at Fenway Park for whatever reason. Hey man, they were lucky... they got to hit against Red Sox pitchers.

Slugging Franchy got his OPS up to .435 after that last double. Let's see what he does here.

To be fair to Franchy... not ideal for him. Tough lefty and no one left on bench to plug in for him.

I started having some of those 2013 delusions and seeing ways they can be good enough to seriously contend as the season moves along. It's getting harder to do that now. They have some serious holes with no real solutions in sight over the next couple of months. I mean Chavis, Pujols, Dalbec....none are great options. Even if Dalbec was getting a better BABIP...well he strikes out a ton, which isn't changing, so he won't hit that much anyways, which is the reality. With him, it's, will he hit enough HRs and draw enough walks to make it worth it? I just hope Casas develops quickly and is ready quickly but I suspect that won't be the case. Can't rush him, but he's the future of 1b.

I request a cease’n’desist on talk of signing Pujols. Guy hasn’t been over 100 OPS+ since 2016. Not something a contender does.
Bonus: Pujols a terrible fielder too.

Hey man, they were lucky... they got to hit against Red Sox pitchers. Yeah, E-Rod and Eovaldi are good solid pitchers, but let's face it, they don't have Clemens or Martinez or healthy Sale leading the staff. They're going to have some rough outings. And yes, it's nauseating seeing them struggle against Detroit, but then when I can step back, I realize that this team is really just a bridge team anyways. They're not build to win this year or next year either. It's the second half of this decade they're building toward, so expecting greatness or a miracle is kind of silly. They are what they are. Enjoy the fact that the games have been competitive and they can win half of them. Losing hurts more when you're supposed to be good. No team with Marwin, Kiké, Renfroe, and Franchy and whoever is at 1b (Dalbec for now) is going to be good. No staff with E-Rod and Eovaldi as your only constants are going to be good enough.....it is what it is. What's been amazing is that pretty much all of the other teams have been so-so. A lot of parity. Even the Dodgers haven't set the world on fire.

This is a thrilling battle between titans. First place Sox vs. first place Tigers. Wait, what? They are what? 9-22 you say? Huh. Have you ever just sat down and watched a baseball game? I implore you to try it sometime. Please.

The late and great DMX mentioned what X was going to do. Missed opportunity for Devers. Now it'll be awhile before the Red Sox have another scoring opportunity.

Devers and X are in the middle of their $200 million contracts? CVaz is 32, 33 years old? Or when the future stars in the minors are up, like the front-line starter.... er.... I mean, what is the scenario that has the Sox in *better* shape in 2024 than now? Even granting upside to prospects you have an all star in Casas, a decent player in Downs, a good player in Duran... but it ain’t Betts, Boegarts, Devers etc. or Rice, Lynn et al.

Back-to-back singles after reclaiming the lead. I guess that's to be expected when you're facing Schoop (.462 OPS) and Candelario (.752 OPS)

This team is two hitters away from being a legit contender. I'm not talking Mike Trout or 40-HR type hitters, either. In fact, two singles-doubles hitters who have .340 or better OBP would get it done. Just enough to keep the line moving. But, yeah, I've counted 3 self-inflicted losses this year already.

Has anyone gotten the scoop on what Valdez’s deal is? Pretty sure he warmed up so he’s not hurt. Makes no sense to me. He’s not in my circle of trust but cmon, gotta use him

Ok, look.... Eovaldi is at 79 pitches and destroyed this guy last time. Why bring Taylor in?
