anyone who thought it was OK to trade Benintendi at that time raise your hand.....(as I fake scratching my beard). You know I don’t like Bloom... or how he’s dealt with a) homegrown guys; b) the OF. And my preference was not trading Beni. But.... I don’t hold the concept against Bloom. And I’ll wait for the full return to call it bad trade. The issue wasn’t really the trade. It was thinking Franchy and Renfroe could play everyday. If they’d signed, say, Brantley for LF... put Franchy immediately in AAA, not bother with Renfroe.... we’d be fine right now. My other beef is *anyone* can trade a valuable major leaguer for minor leaguers. But Bloom has been bad at replacing that talent at the major league level thus far. (Hence, his hand picked OF today at 0-8, 6 LOB). The rationale for the trade didn’t really make any sense. They were selling low on a guy under control two more years so they would have room to add Ottavino... why did we need Ottavino if this was to be a bridge year?

I guess I assume they did it because they didn’t intend to resign him. Maybe I should say... I don’t hold the concept against Bloom in the scheme of things. It fit the dump salary/collect prospects model. The Ottavino trade seemed as much about a prospect and a flippable commodity. Hey, man... I said I don’t generally like it. I just think the Beni trade is not the worst of it.... and was jade bad by overall bad talent evaluation of the FA class.

At what point do you just release Cabrera?

At what point do you just release Cabrera? When the team has a chance to compete. Make him earn his money, unless you have an absolute stud prospect being blocked by him. If anything, he's helping the team get better draft picks.

FYI: this is probably old news: "Red Sox lineup: Alex Verdugo scratched Wednesday due to lower back tightness Steve Hewitt"
Chris Cotillo @chriscotillo · 22m Christian Vázquez is now at second base for the Red Sox. Arroyo was hit in the hand with a pitch earlier. Plawecki in to catch.

I said it the other day, but the mental advantage Barnes has over hitters right now is incredible. Guys are completely guessing up there.

Would think with all these guys banged up we see some movement in terms of bench/bullpen distribution tomorrow. Valdez/Franchy down, Chavis/Munoz up?

At what point do you just release Cabrera? I think they should out of respect. Let the guy retire. A minor leaguer can come close to the production without tarnishing Cabrera’s career numbers. He’s a legend, nobody wants to see him like this. Owners bring this stuff on themselves too. Don’t want to overpay 35-40 year olds? Don’t ask for 100 years of control over 20 year olds.

If there's a late game like this with an early start tomorrow, do you think teams send the next day's starting pitcher early so they can get extra rest? I mean, Eovaldi doesn't really *need* to be there, there's almost no way they'd pitch him tonight right?

He’s 11 homers away from 500, I’m sure he wants to get there at minimum. And with this roster, I’m sure the Tigers will take whatever ticket sales the 500 homer chase brings them.

Well, this is shaping up to be a crappy loss. This team, since the streak, can't seem to find any traction.
I figure the Yankees should pass the Sox really soon.

I just don't understand why they keep him in the 3-spot. Move him down until he gets his swing back.

DD was GM of the Tigers 6-7 years ago. There is no way anyone can hang this mess on him.....Iggy contract or not. Add: I swear....that guy is the favorite whipping boy for some Sox fans....LOL Dd left that team In complete shambles. High payroll for old players and zero farm system along with a barren international group. Add in that the tigers owner died so they were not going to spend massive money!! They started building through farm system and low level free agent signings. This isn’t fully on dd but make no mistake some of it still is on him and how barren he left them
