You know, I’m really coming around on Chavis hitting lead off.

Guy absolutely can’t hit fastballs above his thighs, it’s honestly impressive

As soon as you saw the first pitch to Chavis, the strikeout was all but guaranteed.

Chavis K’ing was destiny. Guy struggling to keep fastball down vs. guy who can’t pass/hit a high fastball.
Meh. Games like this happen. Onward.

I don't know about pinch hitting for Dalbec with Arauz and Chavis due up 4th and 5th.

Tough game, brutal luck in the 9th. Overall I think they played a good series. More of this and less of the A’s/Tigers slop and they’ll be golden

Man we've had some good wins but also some really bad losses this year, holy smokes.

I like Chavis and think he could be ok, but he might be a change-of-scenery guy. Maybe second-division team that’ll start him all year. He just has holes that don’t seem to be closing.

What's fun about Chavis getting the Franchy treatment on this board today is that he went 2-5 with a .429 wOBA for the game.

I'd like another bat option on the bench, 1 less in the pen

That’s fine, and I am not giving him the full Franchy treatment, but they are similar guys in that they both have major hit-tool limitations. You can’t tell me you didn’t see strikeout in the stars there. Number 3 of the day.

Onward. 60 losses will happen no matter what. 60 wins will also happen no matter what. The other 42 games will determine the season. I agree this was one of those 60 losses. Put it behind us and on to the next game.

I'd like another bat option on the bench, 1 less in the pen I totally agree. We need a guy who can hit off the bench a lot more than we need Austin Brice to eat innings in 9-0 wins.

That inning was more on Arauz chasing 4 pitches out of the zone than everyone knowing Chavis is a sucker for the high strike. But it was more about the inning before and Ottavino giving Barnes extra batters to face. And even further back, it was about the squander in the third when they could've evened the score then and really jumped on Quintana before Maddon could've warmed up anyone. Team loss. Frustrating.

I doubt that he will greatly improve on his high ball failures, but he can hit .250 with power. If and when we find better, then he can be gone or be the extra bat and infield support. I also feel the same way about Dalbec although I rate his chances of becoming a big contributor as higher.

For one thing, his power is more potent. But he also seems to be capable of adjusting in a way Chavis seems not to be. We’ll see. I agree that Chavis is no lost cause, and he could be ok down order. But it would be awesome to have a guy who slugs .300 but has an OBP of .400. The Sox have a lot of let’r’rip types.

Well, it’s all in front of them now with Toronto next on the docket.
I would love a legit lead-off hitter. This using 7-9 hitters to lead-off is BS.

Can someone help me understand Statcast? Ohtani's HR, 372 feet down the line, is not a 0.160 xBA in my book. Does Statcast not take into effect the location of where the ball was hit? That feels like it was out in almost every ballpark.
