I worked late and saw the durran homer on twitter. Congrats young man. Nice to see the all fields power.

Verdugo/Kiké/Renfro > Benni/Betts/JBJ at a fraction of the price

Is it too early to complain about the kid's .182 average? Danny might pass him before the night is over.

I like to think im a well informed knowledable sports fan, but hernandez being so good on defense at multiple spots is surprising to me. Great pickup along with Renfro who has been great in right.

Glad Pivetta regained control of the game. He put himself in a precarious situation facing Vlad with the bases loaded, but got him out and then got 6 more outs to make it easier for the pen.

Wow, Pivetta is a horse - didn't realize he was such a big guy, really strong, good stamina - and only 28. Keeper, and nice job tonight. Pen saver!

Since this game became something of Home Run Derby, Part Deux, it's a shame Dolbec couldn't get some licks in. Who knows what he could have done on a night like this. Meanwhile, I hope the boys have saved something for the rest of the series.

Ottavino is filthy, probably made Vladdy look as bad as he's looked all year

Nice to see Pivetta hang in there. The guy has good stuff. He's better than his numbers. Don't tell anyone but Santana is hitting better than Duran.

He hangs in with guys when things look hopeless. Which he has to. A manager just can't run his troops into the ground.

Santana had a nice game. His swing is still awful. He says his "timing" has improved. We'll see if it can deliver him over the Mendoza line.

He hangs in with guys when things look hopeless. Which he has to. A manager just can't run his troops into the ground. To me, with pitchers, it seems more than just "Cora sticking with guys." The manager, pitching coach and as far as possible the pitchers all seem on board with the idea that when you hit an early rough spot you make adjustments or at least try to, and they all seem both smart and tough about it. Doesn't always work, but pitchers looking lost and then recovering to give you several more decent innings is one of the defining characteristics of this team.

I think the best way to evaluate Dalbec statistically is to just aggregate all of his stats. I don't see a lot of value in slicing up stats in general, with the exception of times when the cold streaks coincide with an injury. If baseball stats were created by random number generators you'd see lots of hot and cold streaks, too. The projection spreadsheets are good at aggregating statistics. They have him at .220/.295/.430 or so going forward. That looks reasonable to me. The thing that concerns me is his defense. DRS has him as a butcher, which matches my eye test. Before the season I thought he'd be above average. If he stinks in the field going forward then he needs to whack the hell out of the ball just to be playable. If you slice up the Statcast data, you get a glimpse of what could be though. When a player is legit destroying the ball for a period of time, the key to becoming a good hitter is making the cold streaks shorter. Some players who are average hitters, never have the good stretches that Dalbec has.
But that is way easier said than done of course.
He has been hurt by a bit of bad luck this year on top of not having a good year. Plus, he's also top 5% in MLB for barrel % and for XWOBACON. So there is definitely something there that they should be patient with because there is a lot of possible potential waiting to be unlocked. Not just anyone can hit the ball 115.6 mph.

I think it's the opposite - we like our team and we have confidence in all of you. That said, I think they'll explore a 1B upgrade. Heck, they'll Bloom will explore lots of upgrades. Just depends on the price tags. My point is, they got Steve Pearce late June 2018. I don’t quite understand the lack of urgency given our opponents these next two weeks and the glaring need. There is no need to wait. I think a Steve Pearce trade works out like it did 1 time out of a million.
Actually once in a lifetime.
It's way more likely that a Steve Pearce is worse than what we have now.

Well, the point was mainly about timing, but Santana has a wRC+ of 53 and Bobby is at -0.7 fwar on the season, so I find that a bit hard to believe.
