Batting practice...for the Rays

The big issue is the Red Sox have nobody better in the system then Perez and Richards. That's scary think about those big games coming up with Rays, Jays, and Yankees lineups. I think the Yankees and Jays went all in knowing the Red Sox pitching staff is very average. Could have been better than average. Hopefully E-Rod's luck turns around, Sale comes back strong, Eovaldi stays healthy and Pivetta stops being a yo-yo with his up and down performances.

I’m thinking Bloom is wondering if maybe he should have gotten a starter right now.

I’m thinking Bloom is wondering if maybe he should have gotten a starter right now. Name them and what we should have give up. We don’t have the capital to Beat other teams right now for a trade

I like E-Rod but he is always at 90 pitches in the 4th inning which is death to the bullpen. Sale we all think he's magically going to comeback and dominate. I hope so but that's a lot of pressure and uncertainty. Eovaldi and Pivetta have been solid but Tanner Hauck is really going to be the savior at this point and maybe you stretch out Whitlock now. Red Sox have 3 pitchers right now whom will cause this bullpen major stress and recent starts have proven Bloom was wrong not addressing it.

The chance for the pitching staff is all on Sale. Sale Evo Houck Pivetta Erod That’s as good as you can expect without add massive $$$

It’s notable that the rays pen is in a bit of a mess right now. And Sox is fairly well rested. Need runs soon tho.

What a deflating deadline.
John Henry, this is not how you maintain consumer interest.

We might have to use Houck as an opener, between Richards and Perez starting 1/3 of our games, its getting ugly.

What a deflating deadline. John Henry, this is not how you maintain consumer interest. We have an 84 page (and counting) trade deadline thread. I think consumer interest is just fine.

Sox have a maxed out payroll and a depleted minor league system. It takes a lot of discipline to stay the coarse but that is what was needed to be done. In the long run we will be better for it. That said if we loose out be 1 game it’s going to hurt. Biggest thing realy is health. We need Devers back ASAP. And Sale, Schwarber, Sawamura, Arroyo and probably marwin and Braiser to give something positive going forward.

Not if they keep losing. It's deflating because the Sox had needs and didn't really address either. Now they're losing badly because of 1 of those needs, too a team 1.5 (soon to be 0.5). Also, it might be an 85 page thread, but we'll see how the casual fan reacts if they go spiraling into a slump. They were winning, a lot. Fan interest got driven up. It's a bad game after what many think was a bad deadline.

What's scary about the Yankees is they are getting really good starting pitching plus Servino coming back. The bullpen will figure it out and then the lineup is a 3 run HR waiting to happen though they will SO a lot. The Blue Jays have the best young players in the division who just got a front-line starter and two solid bullpen arms. Toronto will rule this division soon. The Rays if I didn't love the Red Sox so much would be my favorite team they just develop players better than most and have a great manager with solid pitching. This is such a great division. Boston has been having a magical season in memorable comebacks will they be able to hold on great drama ahead. Hopefully 33rd come-back win is coming tonight. Rizzo just hit a HR for New York!

Both are having rough years, but neither cost much and maybe the Sox could work that tutnaround magic?

Name a pitcher or player that was traded today and the package that would have beat what they went for. I will wait. Howard isn't the prospect that he's been made out to be. Maybe he still has the potential to be a late bloomer, but I think Groome has a chance to be a better pitcher. Jeter Downs, Groome and a lottery ticket for Gibson and Kennedy I think is a slightly better package with the same level of risks. I feel like Perez could have also been sold for a lottery ticket bullpen arm as well. Edit: I was also in favor of buying a prospect for Hosmer who is an upgrade over Dalbec. Another potential asset to be flipped.
