I’m not bashing Bobby. I like him, and I think it has been admirable how he’s gutted through a rough season. But is there an obvious precedent for a team in a tight race to ride a rookie who is the worst producer at his position in baseball?
And don’t get me wrong: I am NOT arguing about the trade deadline. I’m saying, like, Marwin, bad as he’s been, might be better.

Glad we didn't trade for Anthony Rizzo so we can see Bobby Dalbec flail wildly at pitches over and over again. They traded for a guy hitting .253/.340/.570 who will be back in a couple weeks instead of a guy hitting .248/.346/.446 and gave up way less in the process. Said latter guy has been on an absolute tear in six games after the trade, yes, but c'mon now. Also reports are that Schwarber looks good at 1B and won't need a long rehab assignment when he goes out. Could've really used another bat against Tampa. Could really use another bat right now. Instead, we are HOPING the guy we traded for can come back in a week or 2 and we are HOPING he can learn on the fly to play an adequate first base. Call me crazy, but I'd rather have the healthy player who already plays the position very well and can contribute immediately in the middle of a tight division race.

Or you can wait ~2 weeks like an adult and give up significantly less for a better hitter I mean you can sit there and think he’s going to be out for the season if you’d like but by all accounts he’s coming back soon. And you can act like 1B is this incredibly difficult position if you must, but we watched Franchy become competent in like 5 seconds flat

Wanting a worse player at a higher cost is not logical, even if he's currently healthy. First base is not that freaking difficult to pick up.

Can't we just stretch Valdez into a starter? ...don't know if I'm joking or not...

Then why doesn’t JD learn 1B? You’d think he’d want to improve his worth to teams as a possible free agent & more importantly help the team he is on wouldn’t you?

[Jerry Seinfeld voice]: If Philips Valdez is indestructible, why not just make the starting pitching out of Philips Valdez?

If they don't hit HRs they really can't score runs at this point. It's been like that for a week.

I’d honestly rather see Yack Daddy start as an opener than Perez at this point. At least he’s an interesting arm that throws gas.

Every time this lineup faces a middling lefty it feels like they ought to pound them, and then it never seems to happen.

Robles is no help. There's the ballgame. They'll lose 2 of 3 and 7 of 9. Not good.

Bad pitchers pitching badly and an offense that cannot capitalize on any of their opportunities.

I have to say: Detroit is much less terrible than I remember. Early in the season, they were disgraceful. But this team is no pushover at all.
