No interest in Beck if this is his attitude. I don’t care how good your team is. Respect your opponents and the game itself. Society is in serious trouble. Vitelli is doing a great job @ Tennessee but I can’t root for them with all of their antics. Counterpoint - nah, this is hilarious (and way more towards mild-mannered on the things athletes say and do during games, you typically just don't see it) and I'd take a dude with fire like this on my team 10 times out of 10. I mean starting a brawl shows passion too, but it's about showing it productively. This is more likely to get you suspended or ejected or start a fight than it is anything else. Frankly, in my opinion this is mostly frustration being excised in a big moment from a guy who'd had a tough May and you could tell was starting to push a little at the plate. That this is the reaction actually does drop his prospect stock in my estimation some - ignoring the pearl clutching or morality questions - as it shows a guy who maybe at times lets these things get to him. Also - this reflects the current state of our society in exactly 0 ways and the Tennessee manager's name is Vitello. Double also - funny timing on the prospects live mock, though I wouldn't be surprised if this drops him a tiny bit in some evaluators eyes.

I get a better feel from DeLauter if we're looking at college outfielders. I feel like too many guys are selected now with complete disregard to defensive fit. Beck is already considered a question mark on the corners, giving me 1B only or DH vibes, and there are only so many times I'll be ok with using a valuable pick on a guy who needs to be shoehorned into a new position. DeLauter plays CF right now, and while some think he won't be able to stick there, having a quasi center fielder in RF at Fenway is always a plus.

And yes, I know his name is Vitello. I'm sorry I had a typo Jaffinator.

Another interesting tidbit for those who may posess a tendency for schadenfreude. Prospectslive has Jud Fabian going to the Orioles at #42, 2 spots later than where the Red Sox took him last season.
Now, Baltimore was the team who had "offered" him a $3m bonus if he fell to them at #41. Slot number for him last season at #40 was $1,865,700, and I believe the reports were that Boston offered him right around slot ($1.9m ish). Slot value for #42 this season is $1,861,000. I'd be intrigued to see if Baltimore takes him (mocks really don't matter, of course) and follow through on their promise of nearly doubling his slot value or if they have their bluff called and wind up making a more conservative offer.

I'm going to put this here. I'm honestly not really enamored with the college OF group of Beavers, Brock Jones, or Beck. It's pretty hard to find impact bats at the MLB level who had ~20% K-rates in college. Even a guy like Hunter Renfroe only K'd around 14% in his junior season. I'd prefer Gilbert if they went the college OF route. If DeLauter was there at #24 I'd snatch him up in a second though.

Now, on an actual draft note, I don't necessarily love the idea of Beck mostly for the reasons Joe Doyle illustrates in that tweet. If they were to go college OF, I think Drew Gilbert would be my choice mostly because he seems like the most likely to have a hit tool that carries and the all-around profile to potentially carry him even without a strong hit tool. But at that point in the draft I'd be fine with just about anything, even a Yorke-type "reach" that serves as an underslot move.

Red Sox’ recent track record at the back of the first round looks good: Houck, Casas, Yorke. I feel optimistic about their ability to identify undervalued players in that range.

I remember when Pat Burrell flipped off Tito after homering off Dice K (15 years ago). It clearly didn't bother Francona too much because I remember him flipping off a dugout camera like five years ago in Cleveland.

If my team didn’t draft a guy who they had as BPA because he did a middle finger when he was amped after a huge bomb I would find a new team to be a fan of
We have a finite amount of time on the planet and I refuse to root for an embarrassing organization. Is it dumb to do that? Sure. Is it something that’s disqualifying? Not in the least bit

Renfroe's junior year, the SEC struck out 15% of the time. This year it's 21%.

Is it dumb to do that? Sure. Is it something that’s disqualifying? Not in the least bit I mean I agree, contingent on this being the guy that they have as BPA. But this, combined with the context (he hasn't been playing very well the past month, though he had a very nice game earlier in the regionals) does drop me on him just a tiny bit.

All these guys have warts (you're not getting a college centerfielder in the mid 20s without at least one) but they're not all the same player. Jacob Melton wasn't mentioned here and I'm not convinced he's a great value at 24 unless he takes a haircut, but despite sharing a little bit of swing and miss I think he's a bit more advanced in terms of selectively attacking his pitch. On the older end as well. I like Drew Gilbert a lot, but he can definitely find himself getting over-aggressive and trying to force things to his pull side and ending up with weak contact. I generally like him a lot, but I'm not 100% convinced there's average power honestly. He's also 10-11 months older than Beavers and Jones. With Jones, if you're an optimist you see the streakiness and the two sport past and you think that concentrating on just baseball might smooth out some rougher edges. If they go college up the middle position player while also saving some money, someone else here's mentioned Coastal Carolina's shortstop Eric Brown before. Really excellent bat to ball, above average shortstop, and hits the ball really hard though it hasn't translated to home run power yet. Had a nice regionals too. Does have a somewhat wacky swing. Zach Neto of Campbell has actually a similar profile but I bet he's off the board before the Sox pick. If he isn't, I'd love to see the Sox pick him - gave Tennessee and Ga Tech all they could handle, though that hasn't been too hard when it comes to Tech's pitching this season. If they do go hunting for a deal down in the college position ranks I hope it isn't for Peyton Graham (ss OU) or Cade Doughty (3b lsu). Graham has all the K negatives of the west coast outfielders without replicating their ceilings across tools and Doughty has a good approach but I just don't see the potential. Definitely would be willing to roll the dice on DeLauter if he was still there. Love me some upside.

Would be great to know if contact and defense is going to be much more important than power in the future MLB game. Would help with things like drafting.

The Red Sox targeting the College OF class could be this year’s “doing everting to make Leiter drop to them” or not loving HS SS crop and maybe doing a deal with Matt McClain.

I don't even think there are any rumors saying the Sox are in on a college outfielder. Just that they've mostly picked position players recently and it's easier for us to talk about since none of us probably have much info on HS guys and even if they were to go for a college pitcher, a bunch of the guys they might be in for either aren't pitching right now or haven't for quite a long time.

I’d argue they’ve leaned HS player under Bloom. That least what he’s done with the premium picks. The year they snagged Yorke in round 1 they did it to save money on another HS bat. Last year they went HS round 1. Might mean something. Might mean nothing.

The college hitter I like and to me is flying under the radar a bit is Cayden Wallace from Arkansas.

Perhaps it's my own bias, but that reads to me like "we've seen college outfielders mocked to the Red Sox a lot by other publications" and not "we have multiple sources from which this statement comes." YMMV, but ProspectsLive is not a publication I understand to be tied in with a bunch of scout sources. Feels a lot to me like a few mock drafts manifesting "the Red Sox seem to be in on Pete Crow-Armstrong" followed by them passing on him when he was there.
