3 hits 4 runs and the W. I’ll take it but that was a stolen W. I’ve always liked Arauz. Nice to see him be the star of the game!

Weird game...from the unexpected COVID results meaning Munoz and Arauz - only 3 hits against a guy with a stratospheric ERA (but we've done lots of that this year), Arauz with a game winning dinger after 2 failed bunts...We are a flawed, frustrating team that has an 85% chance of making the playoffs. And - we are 8-4 in our last 12 games, so things are turning around a bit. Cora does seem to squeeze out unlikely wins in spite of some bad playing.
But - 3 hits? Why can't we hit bad pitchers? Lyles? Heaney? Now Allen?

That’s why u don’t bunt there!!! Let’s go!!! Arauz will have 5 career HR probably. You definitely bunt one that situation in my opinion, but sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. That’s why I coach high school and not the MLB I guess. Hope this is a change of luck for the Sox Arauz is all of 22 years old. He's made it to AAA, is a good defende, and he's been a useful piece for thre Sox. If you didn't happen to see him crush one into the night last year, you might want to check that out. He has quite a few years to prove you dead wrong, and my money says he does that.

Good surprising win on a night where the Red Sox offense made a pitcher giving up more than a run per inning look like Jon Lester in his prime.
Shocking clutch 3 run blow by an unexpected source in Arauz, a shutdown relief inning by Richards of all people and a shaky but effective save by Ottavino.
I'd feel better with Houck closing for the time being, but it worked tonight. At least the Robles close experiment is over.

MFY up 5-0 on Oakland. Seattle winning their game. Our playoff position will likely improve tonight, but will the Rays and MFY ever lose again?

More improbable?:
Arauz go-ahead 3-R HR Richards shut down 8th

Best part of the win from my POV: if you fall asleep at 9 PM trying to watch the game, and wake up from a nap at 11:45 and immediately check the score and play by play ... in terms of drama, it's almost as good as staying awake!
I mean, if I saw that Raffy had hit a 3-run bomb and Taylor and Ottavino had closed it out, I would have gone down sometime later in the morning and may well have watched just the homer (not even the whole PA, necessarily), and deleted the game from the DVR.
This was "What? How does that happen?" I watched the top of the eighth until the homer and all of Richards and Ottavino.
I actually believe that watching Arauz try to bunt while knowing the outcome was in a weird way just as good as watching it live. It's like seeing The Sixth Sense a second time and appreciating how they hid the twist from you.

I had completely forgotten how young is the talented Arauz. So he actually came up at age 21?? What a good Rule 5 pickup for a still developing kid who might otherwise be in AA.

I don't see how there is anything not to like. I view him as our future super utility player, the kind that finds his way into the lineup almost everyday. He's a solid defender with a strong arm that pretty much plays anyplace. He's also growing and seems to have developed some power. Seems to be a very likeable guy as well.

Great win!!!
TBay and the MFY need to cool off, MFY 30-9, 13 in a row, TBay 27-11, since the break. This is not sustainable and needs to come to an end. Hopefully it does and both teams go into the playoffs on a down note.
The Sox on the other hand obviously need to turn things around and maybe they can go into the playoffs on a streak. Things could turn around at just the right time and the Sox could peak at the right time. Who knows maybe Richards turns into a great addition to the pen and can stabilize that group or Dalbec continues to rake. Not to mention the core 3 going into a funk at the same time, they could also come out of that at the same time. This team has the the talent to make things exciting again.

The perfect super utility player would be able to catch a game or 2 a week in my mind. Not to take anything away from Arauz as I agree with you. Is it possible that the Sox have a guy like that in the minors? I know it is asking a lot of a guy but maybe they develop someone who is just not making it as a starting level catcher but can play other positions at a utility level. The 5th rd pick this year, Hickey, has played C, 1st and third. I know it is a big ask but he would be one helluva valuable player with that ability, and his bat is his current carrying tool. Maybe a guy that caught one starter to develop some chemistry, just thinking out loud.

Yeah it would probably take too much practice time to stay up to speed defensively and not be a liability on the field. Pipe dream for the most part, it would take a special player and if the player was that special he would deserve a consistent starting job.

Wong Outside of catching I believe he’s only done 2B and 3B as a pro but he literally played every position on the cape (I believe multiple times too) and was Houston baseballs SS when he entered the program. He’s simply put a very good athlete

The only person I can think of that might have pulled that off is Bryce Harper but, at what cost ? He was a catcher/shortstop pre-draft.

The number of players who have played both C and SS in any sustained and meaningful way in the last 70 years rounds to zero: www.mlb.com/news/isiah-kiner-falefa-catcher-to-shortstopCatcher is a unique position in that, even beyond the physical demands, you have to spend so much time working with pitchers and scouting opposing hitters in order to call a game. Picking up even one or two extra defensive positions is tough. Trying to cover more than that borders on impossible.
