Selfish decision by Bradley there to get behind in the count 0-2. Well done.

I never thought I would hear announcers talk so much about a seven pitch walk

Did anyone see that Dick's Sporting Goods commercial with the baseball players? I could have sworn Anthony Ranaudo was on the mound.

Yeah, Lester's cut fastball looks better than at any time last year.

Gomes would have caught that.

Is the gun slow? I thought both these guys threw harder than this, Sabathia is throwing 91

Gomes would have caught that. Haha I was just going to make a similar crack! Great catch by JBJ, his defense is going to be huge for us. Now let's see what he does in his second AB...

3 pitch strike out - he's clearly over-matched

Textbook bunt there by Iglesias, and the Yankee defense is brutally slow on any bunts on the first base line between Youkilis and Sabathia.

CC is getting stronger as the game goes along, while Lester is looking worse.
That just about sums up the difference between the two.

Am I wrong or is Saltalamacchia awful at receiving the ball? His left arm looks like a wet noodle. He makes every pitch look like a ball. I really hope they use Ross more than your typical backup. The Sox will be facing lots of lefties in the AL East and Ross should get the call for the majority of them I hope.

I was expecting a little better out of Lester today considering his spring training stats and this depleted Yankee lineup. That said, they didn't exactly knock him around. 5IP 5H 2R 2ER 2BB 7K. Verlander might no-hit these guys on Sunday. He had trouble locating his fastball to right-handed hitters when he went to outside corner and his curve was usually off of the plate.

If that's it for Lester, that was an overall encouraging Opening Day performance by him.
Not perfect by any means, but his stuff looks noticeably better than it did a year ago (particularly his cutter, which was MIA throughout the 2012 season).
