Sale/Houck is a tough matchup for any offense. Sale's disastrous collapse amounts to 6 innings pitched, 11K, 5BB and a home run. Before that his season ERA was under 3 with an insane K/BB ratio. Going from Sale to Houck is not fair.

Tomorrow's now close to a must win with a shaky Sale on the mound. However Houck is rested, should be ready to go, and I hope Cora goes to him in the bulk relief spot early on. The bullpen still is generally rested, although Whitlock is probably out.
Win 2 out of 3 in Boston and we're still in good shape. Win 1 out of 3 and it's going to be tough to overcome, but I can see a path to success with Nate/ERod on the mound.

I like Sale at Fenway, it feels like 2017 when he had that awful start in Houston, but came out strong in Game 4. I’m just worried to death about how every bullpen we face totally outclasses us. Only Atlanta has a worse pen out of the playoff teams

Sale and his no command of FB at Fenway park, what could go wrong?

Sale and his no command of FB at Fenway park, what could go wrong? This is where we pay AGAIN for starting Sale in game 1. There was no good reason to do that. He was our 4th best starter coming into this series. I just hope he has enough smoke and mirrors to survive 4-5 innings. But it’s been a while since he was able to go even that long.

Remember today was a must win for them pretty much and they had a shaky Greinke on the mound. They found a way to win. That is what we are going to have to do tomorrow. Sale may not be a lock down pitcher right now but we are going to have to scrap and find a way to head to Houston up 3-2.

Going from Sale to Houck is not fair. Sale has been awful his last 3 outings. He's not facing the cream puffs he faced earlier. His command hasn't been there. And Houck has been shaky lately. I don't know if that 5 inning relief stint affected him or not. I just know he's given up 3 HRs in the past few innings he pitched which is not like him. I'm wrong a lot so I hope I'm wrong here. I think tomorrow will be a slugfest that turns into a bullpen battle and that another late inning lead will slip away. Its like if the game is a blowout the Sox pitchers do fine but if the game is close the Sox are susceptible to giving the game away. Thet have already handed 2 games over to Houston. All of their wins are blowouts except the last 2 against Tampa where 2 8th inning leads disappeared. I'm not convinced they can hold onto a lead in a close game. Hard to win a series that way.

Please start Plawecki tomorrow. Hits lefties better than Vazquez and Sale could benefit from different pitch calling

Laz Diaz is not only a disgrace to his profession, but his mere existence is an affront to not only this great nation but also to God himself

This game felt much like game 1 were the Sox left too many RISP in the early innings then let Houston hang around in a close game. Big mistake when they have the superior back end pen (and Laz Diaz, apparently).
It’s a 3 game series now. Winner tomorrow has the advantage.. Not gonna lie - I’d feel so much better going back to Houston with 3 in hand and 2 to win 1. No matter how it sets up after tomorrow, the ultimate Champions will have to grind this out.
Last thought: This team didn’t come this far to ring out now. Win two more and then on to the next series!

Cora bringing in Perez reminded me of when he brought in Andriese in that extra innings game in Oakland earlier this year. That was basically just forfeiting the game.

If it is Astros-Braves, I’ll be so checked out I won’t know who is champ until spring training.

I counted 21 missed calls by Diaz. It was on both sides, but there were 2 bad calls in that at bat to Castro. he was actually struck out twice. It stops the game from being fun when the umpire is the center of discussion instead of the players on the field.

Hunter Renfroe has been really disappointing. He should have caught that Correa double that led things off in the 9th. And he has been a zero on offense in this series.

That’s a tough play to make. I wouldnt say he should have caught it knowing that he is really up and down out there, but it’s a play a Shane Victorino or dare I say a Mookie Betts would make look pretty easy for example. Verdugo probably even makes that play

Yeah Renfroe has a good arm but he is more of a platoon guy, not a guy you find a way to put in your lineup.

Renfroe’s defense is definitely inconsistent (particularly his range/routes). He looked like a Gold Glover in parts of the first half but tailed off considerably in the second half. He’s a good player but not a no-doubt starter, both for this series, where I would consider sitting him for Dalbec, and for next year, where I might consider adding an outfielder (that could be Schwarber or someone else).

Over 9.5 runs seems like a good bet today.

Well the Red Sox had all the momentum, but then all of a sudden the momentum reversed and now the Astros have it.
One thing is for sure, now that the Astros have the momentum: either they will win again and keep the momentum, or else they will lose and the Red Sox will have the momentum again!

Watched the entire game - it is a shame that the awful ump's balls and strikes calls played such a part. A loss is a loss, though, big or small - just lick the wounds, pick yourself up and do it again today. No one said (or should expect) that this is easy.

One thing is for sure, now that the Astros have the momentum: either they will win again and keep the momentum, or else they will lose and the Red Sox will have the momentum again! Momentum is a fickle creature. We watched the Red Sox ride one of the biggest masses of momentum in history in 2004 when everything was going their way and it seemed like nothing would stop it. And nothing did. I also believe somewhat in the law of averages and I figured it was going to be tough for them to keep up a .330 batting average in the series even with the Astros awful starting pitching - the Astros have displayed a solid bullpen. I also didn't think Houston would be held in check offensively, especially if the game was in reach. The Astros were deflated when the Sox whaled away at their starters and it impacted their offense. I would say Cristian Javier put a stop to Boston's momentum. Had he been terrible the Astros wouldn't have stood a chance. The bigger pondering for me is: who do you trust to protect a late lead in a tight ballgame? They've let four leads from the 6th on up slip away this post-season. They recovered to win two of them against Tampa but have now let 2 of them slip for losses against Houston. They're going to have to find a way to win a tight game or 2 against Houston. Can't expect to blow them out 4 times. I'd say if Houston wins today they're in great shape to win the Series. The Sox really need to win today to have a chance because it's not very likely they're going into Houston and taking both Game 6 and 7. I would also say that Atlanta blinked yesterday. I think if they had won yesterday LA would have been in huge trouble but I wouldn't be surprised if LA comes back on them and wins the NLCS. Let's see what "momentum" looks like in that series.

I believe Sale will be Sale next year. Coming back from TJ, currently, Sale is NOT Sale. We need him to be Sale today for 4-5 innings. We need Sale to be Sale for 12-15 outs. Tuen it over to Houck and hope he is on for 4 innings and get the W. I am afraid we gave the Houston hitters a lot of confidence and momentum in that last inning+ last night though. That non called strike could literally cost us the series for many reasons. I hope I am wrong. Please be Sale today!
