The Astros rotation is a hot mess. If Garcia is out, I guess Greinke gets Game 4 and Odorizzi gets Game 6? The Astros pen has been strong, as I'm excluding Odorizzi because he's one of their starters if Garcia is done. The Sox have to continue the blueprint of jumping on their starters and hopefully then pen wears out. Hopefully E-Rod can pitch credibly and so far they've stayed away from Pivetta. They need Sale and Houck to get back on track. Did you just say game 6? Can't pitch in a game that doesn't happen...

Hank Aaron whacked 755 HRs, a lot of them not majestic. So what? A homer is a homer. They don't award extra runs for distance. Barry Bonds hit 762 HRs, at least 8 of them tainted by steriods. #44StillTheKing
Always the HR king. One of my all time favorites even though I wasn't old enough to see him play.

Can't pitch in a game that doesn't happen... I wouldnt count on a 3 game sweep from either side at Fenway. This thing is probably going 6 or 7

Truly amazing that this team is tied 1-1 in the ALCS with this pitching staff. You have 3 or 4 pitchers (Hernandez being the latest) that look almost unplayable. Hopefully E Rod can go 5 innings. To be fair to Darwinzon, he hadn't pitched in more than two weeks. Before that he had 10 of 11 scoreless appearances.
Perfect spot for AC to warm him up.
Also, his moms is a world-class baby-namer.

Always the HR king. One of my all time favorites even though I wasn't old enough to see him play. I saw him on TV but never in person but there are MANY old-timers who call him the most complete ballplayer that ever played. Excellent RF/CF, more walks than Ks in his career, was good for 20 bags a season in his prime. Oh, and the all-time HR* (this time the asterisk for a real reason), RBI, and TB leader. And a true gentleman (yes, Barry, that counts for more than you'll ever know).
There are others with a claim to the "most complete" crown but it's a small club.

What if Chris Sale had Darwinzon's line: "You do know he was on pace for 27 K and 0 BB right? The one HR was a can of corn and the 2nd was a terrible call by Vazquez. If they had left Plawecki in it never would have happened."

I guess we saw that Darwinzon is not ready for prime time yet. That was about as ugly as it gets. I don't believe he'll ever be ready for prime time. He has too much difficulty in throwing strikes. Surprised he didn't start the 9th with a walk. Both homers came when he was behind on the count. Darwinzon had a window where he had a chance to be a starter, then he had a window where he could have been a set up guy and he got hurt, then he came back and he looked worse and now he doesn’t deserve a place on a playoff team. He has team control, he could improve, but a decent stuff zero command lefty doesn’t take you far these days. Not all prospects pan out. He has no trade value and when the annual 40 man crunch comes around, is he really a lock? I’m not sure, but at the same time if he’s the tigers closer 2 years from now I wouldn’t exactly be shocked either. One of those weirdly tough situations.

They could bring Travis Shaw in to close this out and I wouldn't break a sweat. Cora overworks his favorite relievers Off day tomorrow as they head to Boston, no?

Pretty amazing that the two pitchers we trust the most are rookies. Here's hoping Houck figures out what he was doing wrong, whether tipping, mechanical, or between the ears.

It's a joke that Atlanta was awarded home field advantage against the Dodgers Division winner ALWAYS get home field advantage over the wild card and ALWAYS has....for the playoffs. The World Series has stupid rules like which league won the all-star game.....

Think about this for a sec: Miller didn't figure his sh!t out until he was 28. And then he was one of the best pitchers in baseball for almost 5 years, a guy who the whole league re-imagined their bullpens around.
Darwinzon is still only 24; in fact, he's the youngest player on the team, a couple months younger than Raffy. He also has insane stuff when he's on. Let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater.
Obviously, that doesn't mean much in this particular postseason run but, as I've mentioned above, he hadn't pitched to unfriendly hitters in two weeks before tonight. He's got a couple bullpens to figure out what his problem was tonight (tipping?), so let's see if he can take a step forward when he gets his next shot. With any luck, we'll have a six-run lead in the ninth again.

Feels like our roster is two short - only time that Sawamura or Hernandez can be on the mound would be a blowout either way.
Phantom injury, anyone? Davis and Barnes are the two options, but they are marginally better options.

I wasn't online when Garcia begged out and Dusty claimed it was an injury but I imagine this board was lighting up like my idiot neighbors' Halloween decorations.
It's complete bs because not only did it allow Odorizzi to ice Nate for 20+ minutes but now HOU will be able to swap an obviously spooked Garcia for... anyone with a pulse.
There should be a rule that if one team claims an injury to swap out a player, the opposing team also has the option to swap someone out (paging Sawamura-san...).

I watching highlights boy they love the Astros. One world championship you would think there the late 90’s MFY. The Sox did there job. I hope a lot of people lose money on the Astros.

I agree with this. As horrible as his control is his upside is so big it's hard to give up on him in the long term. I could even see him in a spot in the series but he can't start an inning. The spot for him would be if the team desperately needed a strike out and the other options were worse. Say 2nd and 3rd with one out.

As planned and the Asstrolls pitching staff is pretty much blown out. They will DL Garcia and get a fresh arm Excellent. Garcia was one of their best starters this year. Whatever they replace him with won’t be nearly as good.

Lots of comments about this ballpark sucking. I’ve actually been there and it’s an amazing place to see a ballgame. Nice clear sight lines, roomy seats, great concessions. It’s actually a great place to see a game. I get it that you can see a lot of cheap HR’s, but both teams play there at the same time. Home team obviously has a huge advantage when their total approach to hitting is designed to take advantage of it. I don't disrespect anything about the stadium other than the absurd dimensions that MLB should have prevented. There should be a minimum amount of linear feet to different parts of the field and a minimum amount of square feet in each section of the outfield. True. It feels like you could put all of Minute Maid park in the foul territory of the Oakland Coliseum.

Houck and Hansel got burned on letter-hi fastballs that were inches into the strikezone instead of just out of it. You can't do that to good hitters. Altuve and Correa are both good hitters.

Have we heard a good answer to why the roof was closed both games? I was wondering about that. Weird. Nice and clear and warm down there, too.

Garcia legitimately looked like something was bothering him. His delivery was all over the place. I know everyone gets into conspiracy theories when the Astros was involved(and usually for good reason), but this wasn’t some master plan to ice Eovaldi and get Odorizzi into the game. It would be just fine if the Astros have to sub Garcia out. He was great this year.

He was having serious problems locating his pitches in this game. Something was sorely off.

Have we heard a good answer to why the roof was closed both games? I was wondering about that. Weird. Nice and clear and warm down there, too. Having lived in Houston for a spell, I can tell you that the people of that fine town are trained to live every moment of their lives in AC. I went to a couple of games there, and they started with the roof closed and only opened it in like the 8th inning when the outside temperature exactly matched the temperature inside. They'd never have it open with temps in the 80s, as I believe it was today. I'm not sure why they even bothered making it a retractable roof.
It's a bummer too; games indoors are just less fun. Even on TV, they look worse - duller, more sterile.
