At a certain point, you have to figure that Jayson Tatum just isn’t good enough at the moment.

At a certain point, you have to figure that Jayson Tatum just isn’t good enough at the moment. He is when he plays the way he did against Dallas. He kept baiting the defenders before making the right read every time. And, no surprise, when he becomes a threat as a passer, the scoring follows. But for some reason, he decided to revert back to taking dumb shots right after that game.

At a certain point, you have to figure that Jayson Tatum just isn’t good enough at the moment. You can’t just give him the ball 30 feet from the basket and say “cook young man.” I don’t understand how the Celtics still don’t have an offense that leverages Jayson and Jaylen’s strengths. Get them the ball against tilted defenses, and they will do major damage. Ask them to initiate the offense, and things get weird. Schroder is a nice fit because he is one of the best in the league at getting to the basket. Jayson and Jaylen finding the ball in their hands against collapsing defenses is exactly what the doctor ordered.

It's about team ball. The question should never be is Tatum good enough, that just means you want to play LeBron Basketball.
People need to go watch the 2018 team, go back and watch the 2008 Celtics. The issue isn't if Tatum is good enough, it's what you're asking him to do.
Horford and Robert Williams net rating is 6.5 which is tied for 22nd to 24th on the team. Throw out the single digit minutes played and it's tied for 19th. The big issue? A 100.5 offensive rating and the majority of those minutes are with Tatum and Brown. If you don't see the problem with that, your stuck in the 90s and early 2000s basketball.
I'm a big believer is being able to play big or small, offensive or defensive basketball. Ime has the big defensive part down, yet that's only 25% of it and the part you frankly should be using the least. I'm starting to lose confidence that Ime believes in that like Brad did. The Knicks just did this last year and flamed out in the playoffs, then brought in two offensive first players.
In short ditch the two bigs, start Schroder and put players around Tatum and Brown to make things easier for them. You don't build a fully defensive team and then just say Tatum and Brown go do iso. They aren't Durant and Harden, heck even then without Irving that doesn't work that well.
For years I said the Celtics should bring in a top assistant to help Brad, Ime would have been great. Well Ime needs an offensive top assistant.
Tatum and Brown are clearly good enough to be the top scorers on a championship team, if you play team ball, not iso ball. It's about playing that way and getting the pieces needed for that to work. The biggest weakness right now with Nesmith hardly playing and Pritchard benched is shooting. One of Nesmith, Langford or Pritchard needs to step up or you likely need to make a move. Making Pritchard the backup PG with Schroder starting would be a start.
If I'm Brad I spend the rest of the time before the deadline seeing what Smart, Richardson and Juan can get you. He might have to force Ime hand by trading Smart, like Danny did trading Theis.
Also maybe this team should call up Sam Hauser. He's a less athletic Nesmith, yet much more advanced skill wise in his game.

I was listening to something where they were discussing how Richardson and Tatum are very close friends. Take that fir what it’s worth but could partially explain that move to get him then extend him right away

Celtics need to run offense through Big Al and TimeLord (separately of course). Both of those players are gifted passers. Jayson and Jaylen should be catching passes off screens and pin downs. They should be handed the ball with heads full of steam and open paths to the basket.
The sell shouldn’t be hard. We are going to take the ball out of your hands a bit so that you can both score more efficiently and be well rested for everything involved with winning basketball. In other words, no more isolation fadeaways with 3 seconds on the shot clock.
Another option is run pick and pops with Jayson and Dennis. Imagine what a nightmare decision it is for teams to hedge protection off of a floating Tatum or stick hard on Tatum’s hip as a whirling Schroder turns the corner. When a third defender shows you have Jaylen in the corner or TimeLord rolling to the basket.
Instead, the Celtics continue to find themselves playing a much harder game than their opponents. 1 on 2. Smart versus the young bucks. Smart verse the rim. The young bucks verse their egos, etc.

Tatum pisses me off. Gets Garland in a switch backs him down, kicks it out, resets, gets it back, and bricks an 18 footer. TERRIBLE.
Schroder does not piss me off

How many seasons and coaches is it going to take before we realize that Tatum’s crappy shot selection is on him?

Correction - 15-2 - lead all gone. Tatum shooting them to a loss, possibly...still time to pull it out.
