Grinded that out. That’ll be a lot of their wins this year, but it’s an identity and that’s a start.
Timelord has knee soreness, as is tradition. He did have a spill in the last game

We had the 14th best rated D last year, were currently ranked 11th. They were 4th two years ago. Yet you switched out Walker, Fournier and Thompson for Horford, Schroder and Richardson. Add in Robert Williams playing in 13 of the 14 first games at over 30 minutes a night. Sorry I won't give Ime much credit for the D, this team was built to be a defensive powerhouse.
I'll give him credit when they play team Basketball and he learns how to balance D versus offense.

Look at the trends and how they rank the last 7 or so games

Yeah umass, sample size is still very small so any improvement is likely to get lost due to the early struggles. I think they have been playing defense very well, the problem is the offense is FUBAR.

This team straight up stinks. Mentally soft, physically soft, poorly coached…there isn’t much positive about this organization right now.

Only one bench player scored (Richardson) - with Jaylen and Williams out, this is just unacceptable.

Guys two years ago they were 4th starting Kemba Walker, Hayward and playing Kanter big minutes. While also being 4th in offense, now that's impressive. Ime has a great defensive team and he's hardly playing anyone that's not good defensively. Last game outside the last two minutes, he played Kanter 14 minutes. That's it, everyone else is above average to better defensively. He's had games were Grant Williams was the worst defensive player he's played. That's like praising the Bucs coach because Brady with all his weapons has a good offense. You'd have to be a horrible coach to have a bad defense playing those lineups. Yet we are getting excuses about sample sizes. This team should easily be top 10 to top 5 in defense. Yet they have to be able to also play good offense. Brad Stevens did a darn good job building a team that can play both ways, yet he's not playing the offensive guys. Basketball is a mix of offense and defense, man I miss Brad Stevens. Ime has turned Kanter into a bad offensive player, lowest points per 36 minutes of his entire career. He's done nothing to help anyone on offense and it's not surprising given his lineups.

So your take is a coach should step in on day one and his players should be masters of a new system and they can learn everything at once? Just because a team should be something doesn’t mean it won’t take time to get there. I fully agree with your end point, I just don’t think it happens over night. We should be looking for improvements. For the most part, I feel like we’ve seen that with the defensive system. SSS so time will tell if that is true or not and now they have stated they need to fix their offense, if we don’t see improvements there over the next 10-15 games then we may have a larger problem.

I want to see a plan. Take the Patriots you freaked out after that Maimi loss, I wasn't worried I liked what they were doing. It's one thing to have coaches fine tuning things, this isn't that. This isn’t clean up a few mistakes and everything is good. Is that what you see watching the Celtics? He's had training camp, preseason and now 15 games. What Ime needs half a year to figure out that offense matters?

This isn’t clean up a few mistakes and everything is good. Is that what you see watching the Celtics? He's had training camp, preseason and now 15 games. What Ime needs half a year to figure out that offense matters? Correction, I didn’t freak out after the Miami loss, I said it’s a loss that will haunt them all year. It probably will. Right now it’s why they are fighting for a playoff spot and not in first place in their division (let’s not derail this thread with that tho). Training camp in the NBA is very short and there are only 4 games and they were missing key players for those games. Ime knows offense is important, but you can’t implement new defensive systems and new offensive systems simultaneously effective. You have to put the focus on one over the other. It’s just the way it is. Obviously they don’t ignore the offense, but it hasn’t been as big a focus as defense. Is that a problem? Certainly. It’s also a predictable one. You keep pointing to Stevens in 2018. He’s been here for years. His systems were in place. There were many players who knew it and only a couple who had to learn their individual roles. That’s easy. An entire team learning entire new systems take time. This is not me defending Ime or saying he’s a great coach. It’s me saying we don’t know yet. With regards to their effort. It’s either the players are soft or they are thinking too much on the court as they learn. Akin to a rookie looking slow i the NFL as they learn the defense. Again, we don’t know yet.

There is a lot we don't know yet - agreed. What we do know is that if this is what the team is all season - .500-ish, one step forward, one back, poor shooting, stand around offense, poor shot selection - it will be a pretty long, unpleasant agonizing slog - they will bleed fans. I am sure Brad knows this, Ime knows this. Brown being out isn't helping - Williams needing days off isn't helping. But the team is just not particularly fun to watch right now.

My issues with Ime is his offensive system. Again if I felt this was an execution type thing I wouldn't be saying these things. This is what I see, he's playing darn good pairings if you only care about D.
We know a ton though. He likes to play big, his rotations are small, he's not very creative, he doesn't adjust to the other teams lineups, he doesn't do whole sale bench changes, he's increased Tatum and Brown playing iso, he doesn't seem to care about shooting. It's really clear what his vision is build a defensive team that relies on Tatum and Brown iso to win close games.
2018 You bring in Hayward and Irving, oh yeah with a rookie Tatum. Hayward goes down redo the offense, Irving goes down redo the offense. Look what Stevens did after Irving went down in the middle of a season. Perfect example in with that 2018 team of execution not being great, yet I loved the system. Also don't forget Smart went down and missed the start of the playoffs. Rozier went into those playoffs starting 16 games that year. Irving last game was with 15 games to go. Ime has a veteran team compared to what Tatum, Brown and Rozier were before then.
He's a rookie coach that literally comes off as learning on the job. The problem is this isn’t a rebuilding team. You could seriously mess up our future if Ime isn’t ready to handle a team I see as top four in the East. Raise your hand if you think an athletic team with guys like Tatum, Brown, Langford, Robert Williams, Nesmith, Schroder etc should be playing a style that's 27th in Pace in the NBA?

Does anyone have a clip or quote from Ime regarding the static offense? I have literally never seen less movement other than the rockets with harden and it started under brad and is continuing this year. At some point can we move a guy from the corner and have him screen off ball or cut to the hoop or at least just run the baseline and change the attack angle of the offense?! we walk the ball up and then run one action at the top of the key and literally just stop - can we try anything else? look at the warriors - they are the best team in the nba and they never stop moving... lets just copy them or something bc this is maddening.

So - do we finally have lift off tonight? Playing a complete game- and still without Brown and Williams. Encouraging - but can they make this the beginning of a run?

Man, for as bad as the season has been with the heartbreak losses and the offense looking pretty bad at times, I can at least take some solace on the fact that we never looked as utterly broken as the Lakers defense looked tonight. A high school team could probably score on them, geez.

Beating Lebron by 20 is always a nice feeling
Schroder to Westbrook was a downgrade, Lakers fans should probably stop clowning Schroder for rejecting an extension because if he keeps playing like this he’ll make most of it back and they’re stuck with an overpaid guy who is a terrible fit
Best showing of the season by the boys. Tatum looked like the Tatum I know that he is and expect him to be

Here is the salary cap outlook for next offseason. Who on this list do you think will be targeting a guy like Schroeder? The first team on the list is maybe the Knicks? I doubt Chicago would especially, if they resign LaVine. I always get surprised so it’s anyones guess i suppose.
