Casas and Downs both 2-4 with a HR today. Not being hyperbolic here.... but honestly... would the Sox be a different in wins/loses with the Wocester bats instead of ours?

Yanks 16-6 Toronoto 15-8 Sox 9-14
We lost 2 of 3 to a horrendous Baltimore team when they were big games.

There are a lot of scuffling teams looking at schedules for the Sox. Great chance to break out.

Don’t look now, but it’s May 1st and the Red Sox are 7.5 games behind the Yankees. Anyone who isn’t pushing the panic button is not paying attention.

If this isn't their year, I don't care. I'll still watch and enjoy what I can, which isn't much lately. But the days of me feeling like my life is over because the Red Sox are slumping are long gone. They're still getting paid so they'll live and so will I.

This feels like 2012. A sort of vacuum of joy. But without the WS the next year.

I have seen too many baseball seasons to check out this early. Teams catch fire mid season etc. Atlanta last year, Nationals in 19, even MFY 78. And yes I am aware those were more talented teams than this one. Still too early. Like I said a couple weeks ago, not getting Suzuki hurt big time.

On a positive note..... zero reason to rush Sale or Paxton

Bogie was running like 80% down the line there after the slip and got thrown out by half a step. Pathetic.

don’t you take some of these guys out? Sloppy field, blowout? Did Cora not see what happened to Embiid?

Guys, I think it's time for Alex Cora to shave that beard. Season turning point moment right there!

Sad this Jaylin Davis waiver wire pickup is best hitter today. Reminds me of the line from Animal House: 2 C's 2 D's and an F. Congratulations you are at the top of the class. And what the hells wrong with Raffy? Since the start of the season and spring training he has fallen off a cliff. Not gonna get that big contract that way.

So Cora rests guys - gives them off days when meaningful games are in the balance. Yet today down 8 runs and after a rain delay, no starters (other than pitcher) have been removed. Seems like he might be sending a message? Show me something?

Assuming they're constrained by the second CBT threshold, getting Suzuki vs. getting Story was an either/or proposition. Obviously Suzuki has been better than Story so far, but let's give the league a chance to adjust to Suzuki before coming to any conclusions.
The thing that gets me is that they didn't sign Pham or something like that. They could've found a way to afford that.

Yanks have won 9 in a row. They underachieved last year while we overachieved. They look like the Sox of 2018 and 2021. We look suspiciously like the Sox of 2020....except our hitting has caught up with our then pitching. If we are going to stink, let's make a really bad smell. Mayer wasn't bad consolation.

Don’t look now, but it’s May 1st and the Red Sox are 7.5 games behind the Yankees. Anyone who isn’t pushing the panic button is not paying attention. They could still grab the 3rd wild card...so there's still that. Of course if you're asking me if I think they'll do that, based on what I see, I'd say no. I'd say that 3 teams are coming out of the East and 2 of them are wild cards, so their best hope is that the ALCS and AL West contain only one good team each so that they can grab a 3rd wild card....Of course that presupposes that the Red Sox are nowhere near as bad as they appear. I don't think they're a 90 loss team. I do think at some point they flirt with .500 and get a little bit over. I'll still with 84 wins for the time being. But the caveat is with the Red Sox, when things go good, things can elevate, and when they go bad they can free fall, so at this point I wouldn't be shocked if they're under .500 by the all-star break and entertaining the thought of selling. Honestly it would be a lot more shocking if the Sox turned the ship around and actually got into the thick of the division/wild card race. From what I've seen so far, the Sox aren't better than anybody in this division, although at some point I think they can be better than Baltimore, but they're not better than NY, not better than Toronto, and not better than TB, so unless four teams in the division make the playoffs I'd say the Sox are basically an also-ran team this year.
