Thornburg might be just what this team needed.

Great to see the offense and pen show up.and cover for an off night for Whitlock. Thos might be the first game all year they felt and played like the Sox.

Danish and Schreiber are looking like key pieces to maybe stabilizing this bullpen.

Gotta start somewhere. May tonight be that start. Long way to .500 - let's get there then see what happens next.

The key to the win was making sure that Barnes never got his hands on the ball.

Whitlock laboring a bit tonight nice reverse there !! What do you call 78 pitches in 3 innings if not laboring? There is no reverse. That is what he was doing.

After squandering half of Mike Trout’s career, it looks like the Angels might be legit this year(though I have my doubts on the pitching). They could sure use a guy like Xander for the stretch run.

Sure but what could they even offer the Sox that would make sense? Jo Adell and Bachman? That system is very iffy. Not necessarily trash but its really iffy.

I'd pass on addell awful defender and his bat to date hasnt come close to producing enough in the majors to make up for it. so yea don't see much they could offer that would be worth dealing xandy to them.

Well, I’m not sure they are getting elite prospects for a couple months of Xander anyway. How about a couple high-ceiling guys in the lower levels? I’m sure the Angles have some of those??

True! I am glad he went to Detroit. There are a bunch of kids in AAA and AA I would rather watch than E-Rod 100 pitch 4 2/3 innings. At least when Cora is pulling a lot of these starters (right or wrongly), they are usually at 60-80 pitches for 5 innings and Wacha, Hill, and Whitlock (until today) have been effective.

They have those but if you take a guy like Jackson for instance he strikes out way too much and shows no signs of slowing down. They haven't had a really good draft in a while from what I've read. Xander is still a top talent so in theory you should be able to get someone who is a real difference maker over the next decade. Plus the Angels don't play games with contracts like the Red Sox. They would extend him immediately.
