Alas, JBJ’s catch not the story of the inning.

Pivetta’s velo is down. I wonder if he is dealing with dead arm.

Since Raffy has 3 ABs left, I figure this game is 4-4.

That's just upsetting. Tallion threw 1 strike that inning. JFC Bloom.

Ump is making up for last night with the strike calls. We're about even now. But for the last 100 years, umps still owe us about 8 championships worth of calls.

The Yankees got rid of Sanchez because he blows. We gotta dump like 10 players.

Pivetta got to go in on the hitters. He's leaving crap middle to all of them.

To be honest, I hate this kind of shallow analysis. I don't buy that his problems are against the AL East as much as it is that he didn't face the AL East when he was one of the best pitchers in the league. Same goes for the entire team.

Thank you for subscribing to Bobby Dalbec Facts! Did you know that Bobby Dalbec has 791 career plate appearances and a lower bWAR total than the average major league batboy? Please reply STOP to opt out.Nice rip there Bobby <3 Oh would that I could.
It was lots of fun to have not seen the game, read through this page of the thread, see 1,100 anti-Dalbec comments in a row, and then check the game log...
I don't understand why we can't all agree that Dalbec has been somewhat subpar without it leading to these two-minute hate rituals. Anyway, here's some more Dalbec facts: he has a 107 wRC+ over the past two months. 102 since the beginning of June. 106 since the beginning of July.
ADD: And knowing the outcome made page 7 of this thread a lot of fun. I mean "somewhat subpar" is an understatement. -1 bWAR, -0.3 fWAR, -8 DRS (-6 at 1B, -2 at 3B), 27th percentile xwOBA, and he has looked bad doing it. 27th percentile xwOBA is even worse when you consider he's mostly playing against LHP nowadays. I was perfectly content with Dalbec bridging us to Casas at 1B coming into the year, and I do remember him having a miserable start to last year too before turning it on. It's hard to sugarcoat how terrible he has been so far this year, though.

But how do you avoid the hypothesis that he was one of the best because he was not facing the elite teams? I’m not saying there is enough here to say one way or the other, but on its face having stats implode when you start facing the best division does at least suggest you had been preying on weaker opposition.

what do we need next year? DH? 1B? SS? an entire OF? C? Sadly I think Durran is just not that good.

Yeah well he was also hitting 96-97 when he wasn't facing the AL East and now he's 92-94. The velocity really helps him. He's not pitching slower now because he's facing better competition.

Could a case be made for cherry picking? Sure. The old saying is you can make numbers say whatever you want to support your cause. A case can also be made that generally that the AL East is the toughest competition he will face. Personally I have been saying for a couple weeks he hit a wall. Dead/ tired arm, something like that. Not at all saying he doesnt have a place on the staff but something seems different for sure.

Where did Xander lower half gone? He's swinging with just arms. Thus zero power.

That’s why I wondered earlier if he has dead arm. Fair enough. But it doesn’t explain the whole team.
