refnsyder and davis should have been told to take 3 pitches in a row once they got up 3-0, probably their best chance

That is a crazy rule on an OF throw. One-hop throw from the outfield used to be the way it was taught. Low enough so it could be cut-off etc. ..apparently that has changed

Unfortunately, the game is still filled with PED's. It's super easy to get a clean urine. As one that has spent lots of time in rehab, I cannot tell you the number of stories. The point remains the same. Performance enhancing drugs will always be available, no matter how much MLB tries to regulate. You might be right that all of these guys are juicing. My question: would it kill Verdugo and Xander to call Judge’s guy?

You're hitting .095, the team need s a baserunner to have a chance and the P is having trouble throwing strikes, so what do you do?
Swing at the first pitch, naturally.

Ah, I see - swing at the balls, watch the strikes.
Is this rock bottom yet?
I can see us losing every game leading up to the trading deadline. That will certainly inform what will happen.
Bello deserved better - he was a real highlight tonight.

This was a bad one. This team doesn’t look like it is pulling out of this. Sign X, sign Raffy, trade what you can, reserve your tee times.

I think that's the worst 3k performance I've ever seen.

Poor selection out of the pen in a close game . Used your worse arms. Not sure why Vaz would be traded when we don’t have another catcher. JD however seems to be fading.

This team is so not worth investing in. Bloom better not give up anything if consequence. The 2022 Red Sox flat out aren't worth it.

Could try Duran at DH

No question this is not their year but getting some ptbnl not going to make them better. Could just get compensation pick.

Yet - Duran singles - doesn't seem like he had any inclination to steal. Gets thrown out at second on a pretty slow grounder. If his value is speed - it is not being utilitzed. He may end up being a good player - but right now he is not adding value anywhere. But that also describes much of the team, the way it is playing right now.

Vazquez probably won't even give a pick back if he walks because I doubt the Sox give him a qualifying offer, but he would have a good amount of value in a deadline trade. I put him in the X bucket - if you don't intend to extend, pend your spend, and send to a team that can contend.

There have been so many games that are microcosms of this season. Tonight we get the good pitching, no offense, ineffective bullpen microcosm. Can't win when JD, Xander, Dalbec, JBJ and Sanchez go 0-16 (don't laugh at the last three names) Poor Bobby D. Has a 155 wRC+ for the game and this is the only time he gets mentioned in the thread. (I know the stat was accurate at the time.)
My other takeaways from what I saw of this game:
-This Mazzarotti fellow is a real debbie downer. Late innings were not a lot of fun, but jeez, do we need to verbally bury Jaylin Davis and Yolmer Sanchez over and over again? Or Sawamura, who's mostly been pretty good? What's the point? Eckersley'll be critical when it's called for but he doesn't harangue the team.
-The timing of the Devers and Story injuries is really unfortunate. Sale notwithstanding, the pitching staff is finally starting to reassemble itself and just at that point two of their three best position players go down - and right in the lead up to the trade deadline. If n' when those two do come back - along with Wacha and Hill - this team (which has a much easier schedule starting right after the trade deadline) could well go on a run. But, you know, maybe not if they sell off some of their other goodish players.

Not true! I said he looked good at 3rd and might be better elsewhere. I like Bobby, and I wish him success. I think he might be far more valuable at third, and thus, is likely more valuable to someone else.

Agree on Mazz - very heavy handed (I am not at all a fan). As to the schedule - I see only a bit of breathing room, really - 4 with KC Aug 4-7, 3 with Pittsburgh Aug 16-18, 4 with Texas Sept 1-4. Then 5 with KC and Cin Sept 16-21. That's 16 games. 40 games look pretty touch - AL east, mostly. I no longer consider Baltimore breathing space.

I didn't see whatever nice plays he made today but he's looked pretty rusty over there to me, even as he looks more and more solid at 1B. Still, one of the concerns when he got to the majors was that his strong arm would be wasted at 1B, right? So I could see another team valuing there, like you say.

Wouldn’t say he made any stellar plays, but he looked really solid. His arm is a cannon. If he can be average with that arm and hit dingers, someone could have a solid 3b.

You think he is a debbie downer as a color analyst, you should hear him on the Felger & Mazz show. After the pasting they took on last fridays game< I just had to turn on that show on Monday and Felger and him were ramming the Sox from top to bottom. they are nothing but debbie downers all the time, but I was curious to see how he would handle it seeing as he did color on that game. He was unmerciful except for Bello who he said was a real keeper.

They were only ever good during a stretch where they faced teams racing to the bottom, though they were able to sweep the Guardians as well. One of their only efforts this season. They didn't win a series for the first month and a half of the season. It's kind of amazing they're only 1 game under .500 now given they b went through that, had a horrible July and that they have all these injuries now.

That would be great except he hasn't been a good hitter. Hear! Hear! Duran only has two shortcomings. He canât field well enough to play CF or RF in Fenway. And he does not hit well enough to play anywhere for them. He would probably still be in Worcester if Kiké were healthy. As for Dalbec, he can not be our 1B, but if his bat recovers, he could play 3B with Raffy becoming our DH. Note please that he only has a future in Boston if he hits. Bello looks like the real thing.

Somebody called Tyrone Taylor killing us? Outstanding He was on my list for that "Who will be the 3rd OF" thread in the offseason...
