While the Patriots disappoint me I decided to rank my favorite seasons since '04: 1. 2004 2. 2018 3. 2013 4. 2007 5. 2021 6. 2008 7. 2016 8. 2005 9. 2017 10. 2010 11. 2006 12. 2022 13. 2011 14. 2015 15. 2014 16. 2020 (I think if it wasn't shortened I'd have this one 12th or 13th) 17. 2012 (Bobby V misery) 18. 2009 (Yankees) Sounds about right to me. On second thought you forgot 2019 which is quite understandable given that it was a forgettable season. It ranks with 2010 and 2006 but a lot more disappointing following their best season ever and it lead to 2020.

The game is half over and the Red Sox are ahead, in case anyone was wondering... ADD: Oh, football season started, didn't it? I guess that's where everyone went...
Unfortunately the Patriotd suck too so it should be like a continuation of the baseball season. Go Celtics.

Casas is looking a bit like Dalbec.
This is my concern. I think he’ll be good, but I do not count on him as a lock in next year’s lineup. There will be growing pains.

Sorry I meant to write this yesterday but Wacha should get offered the QO, because he will decline easy extra pick if we dont sign him.

Really can't complain about the value Rich Hill has given them for $5 million and I wouldn't mind if they brought him back in the same role again.
His FIPs the last five seasons:
3.97 4.10 3.99 4.34 4.04
And his ERA has tended to overperform his FIP. I think the higher ERA this year is more due to somewhat bad luck than poor performance.
Hill has told everyone that he wants the Rodger Clemens role where he comes in halfway in the season and pitches. So not sure if the Sox are up for that.

There may be growing pains, but his strike zone management and contact ability are miiiiiiiles ahead of Dalbec. He reminds me of Schwarber the way he works his at bats.

I mean in a tiny sample he’s not getting great contact. Like I said, I like him, but I think it is essentially they get a good 1b/DH in the off-season and not rely on a rotation of in-house guys.

Very nice win! Team is looking sharp - 7-4 in their last 11. Just need to rip off 21 wins in a row to close out the season and they have an outside shot at the third wild card!

If you would have told me we would win games scoring 17 one day, and then 1 the next, I would have said not a chance but glad to have witnessed it. I know the NFL started today and we are out of it, but nine pages for a series win against a division rival, interest has fallen off a cliff.

The only options are gonna be expensive free agents like Bell or Rizzo, or else guys who wouldn't project to be better than Casas/Hosmer/Dalbec anyway. Meanwhile the team currently has no right fielder or shortstop for 2023, and could make do with about half a dozen guys to bolster the pitching staff. I think there are much more efficient ways to improve the team than throwing money at 1B.

There are more than 20 games left in the season and 11 of the 12 playoff spots are all but decided. The only real drama is over which mediocre team wins the AL central.

Barnes in to secure a higher draft pick lol I love Cora going to Barnes. Barnes will likely be good again. It happens all the time with relievers.

I've never understood the Casas hype. His minor league stats don't jump off the page at all. Neither power stats or average. Of course I am not a scout and have never seen him play so there's that but I just don't understand what people are so excited about. He's hit; .254 (Greenville) .284 (Portland) and .273 (Worcester).

I'd tentatively put it 12th behind both of them, but depending on how this season finishes it could end up below 2022 as well. Just so much disappointment that ultimately led to trading Mookie, no farm development really, etc.

Your comment surprised me so, assuming you aren’t just kidding, I looked up his stats. I found some things of interest. He was born in Jan 2000, so he is 22 in 2022. He was 18 in 2018 when he got a cuppa in rookie ball. In 2019 at a still growing age 19 he played in A ball with with another cuppa in high A and hit a combined 256/350/400 with 20HR and another 31xbh with 66R and 81RBI. This is where the hype began and rightly so. BB/K was considered problematic at 58BB vs 118K. He also showed promise as an athletic 1B with long levers even as he continued to grow. That plus an .850OPS was legit solid. There was no 2020 miLB so at age 21 he began the 2021 season where he did better than promising. In 86G and 371PA’s In Portland and another 9G as a cuppa in AAA he hit 279/394/484/871 w. 14HR and another 18xbh; with improving D at 1B. That’s a legit hype train. He continued to hit in the AFL: 372/495/487/982 Importantly he enjoyed 17BB vs 18K in 97 PAs. Not bad. So here we are, witnessing the first few games of a 22 year old in The Show, where he plays with a 2.3 age differential. This is after a 4.3 age differential in Worcester where he hit 273/382/481/863 in 72G and 371PA with11HR and 21 other xbh and, significantly, 46BB vs 68 K. I really like this kid, his acrobatic 1B play, his consistently high OBP and XBH. The power will come. And in 2030 I hope he is celebrating his 30th birthday as the 1B for the Red Sox. He is a young, talented newly minted rookie. At least give him more than a couple of weeks to start the bashing.

Also I had absolutely no idea he was a strong defensive player. I'm not bashing him. I'm just saying the hype does not match the stats.
