From the post game show Smart had x-rays taken and it was negative. Chances are he won't miss more much more than a few games. I missed part of the game and missed Rob's injury. Did he stay in the game for a short time after colliding with Brown? Hyperextended knee to the twice surgically repaired knee. Have to wait and see with Rob. All the more reason to trade for another big.

From various reports, coach Joe doesn't seem overly concerned with any of the injuries. But...it is a warning that things can change in a hurry.

I'd still love Mo Bamba. Gives you Robert Williams insurance and the ability to play him and Williams for 48 minutes in the playoffs. Two straight years of Mo shooting it good from deep, he rebounds and can block shots.
I do agree we could use a bigger wing also, you can never have enough. Yet with Williams and Bamba it allows you to play smaller if injuries happen and not get killed on the boards. Helps you also limit Williams minutes and give him days off.

Stout defender and actually has an outside shot. The way I see it, they have two options to address this final piece of depth: they could make a move for a big or get a wing to slide Tatum over to PF more often. I think Tatum is too good of a defender and he was amazing in the free roaming Timelord gig. So I'd get a wing instead of a big.

Bamba still has upside too. Put him in an org that actually knows how to win and surround him by vets, and see how he responds.

One example: Gallinari and Pritchard for Jae Crowder. They have all three of Smart, White and Brogdon signed for this year and the next two years so Pritchard is always going to struggle to find minutes. Have to imagine they’re looking at the best player that they can acquire for that package as the last piece of a potential title team. Crowder makes sense “on paper”, but this guy quit on his team that was a Title favorite because they wanted him to come off the bench. Why would you acquire a guy like that who wants nothing to do with the role you’ll need him for?

The top 8 for playoff rotation is set:
Rob W Horford Tatum Brown Smart —————— Brogdon White Grant Williams ————————- Then it’s
Pritchard Hauser Griffin Kornet
You’re not upgrading any of that…
Ok let’s add a wing… who? Then you bump who out of the rotation? Rotations don’t go 9 deep in the playoffs other than small samples or spark plugs.
I’m with UMASS that if there’s any upgrade to be made it’s Rob Williams insurance because we can’t trust his knee will hold up.
That’s the only area that really makes sense to me to add to, if the price is right.

Fair point on Crowder’s attitude (though I think he’ll be less pissed about being pushed to the bench by Tatum/Brown than he was about Cam Johnson). You can substitute another wing of that caliber.
I am more concerned about wing depth than I am about big man depth. The problem with adding a big man is that, when Rob and Al are healthy, that guy isn’t seeing the floor at all, and it seems like a bad idea to spend scarce assets/roster space purely on an insurance policy, especially since they have decent third/fourth options already in Kornet and Griffin (and Grant Williams can always play a bigger role as well). Meanwhile, they could really use another wing to both lessen the minutes load on Tatum/Brown in the regular season (a huge issue in my book) and be a rotation piece in the playoffs (either as a ninth man, which most teams do end up using at some point in a long playoff run, or stepping up in case any of the guards/wings ahead of him gets injured).

Your 9th guy last year played 200 minutes, why? Robert Williams was injured and Theis started 5 games. If Robert Williams was healthy he's hardly playing and we went to the finals playing 24 games. Easily the biggest need on the team given Robert Williams injury history and Horfords age. Your 8th guy from last year was Pritchard and he won't hardly even play unless of injury. Which is fine depth if you have bigs like Robert Williams and Bamba.
I'd much rather rest and save Robert Williams than Tatum and Brown. Nevermind you have more than enough depth right now to reduce their minutes in regular season. I certainly don't want an Robert Williams injury mean we're playing Kornet and Griffin good minutes in the playoffs.
Now you could certainly use more size, that was my main complaint getting Brogdon after getting White. Yet if you want it to be meaningful you need to trade one of them and given their play I'm not rushing out trying to do that.

I don’t buy the fact that they can’t rest Tatum and Brown more in the regular season with what they have. They can play Hauser, they can play small. They have options.
You are right that a big won’t play much, if at all, when Williams and Al are healthy, but we know the odds of that are way too low, which is the teams biggest flaw in my opinion.

Mazzulla not using timeouts has become an absolute joke.
Grow up, Joe.

Tatum’s the MVP. Winning with him on the court, getting blown out without him on the court

Yet another pathetic performance against a trash Magic team.
For someone who’s a very good player, Jaylen can be such a detriment at times. He was positively awful in the second half.

Brown a -19 with 5 turnovers. Not much good about this one - it happens. But man, they can lay a turd when playing bad teams
No Rob, no Malcolm, no Marcus - no good

Magic own us, that’s kinda hilarious Just like the Pistons last year Oh well They are a bad matchup when we don’t have Rob Williams because they are very big and athletic and we are smaller and less athletic with Al in the front court. Also, they are bad enough that it’s hard to get overly motivated and they can play super loose.

Rumors are the Celtics are adding a big so now i have the choice to believe it because it backs up what I said is their biggest need or dismiss it because I said Brad doesn’t let rumors get out…. Dilemmas…

This whole not using timeouts thing is a beyond a joke at this point. Mazzulla is actively hurting his team’s chances with this garbage.
