Well, it is always good to get an ass kicking early in the season to ensure the team is aware that they actually have to work for wins. We weren't going to go undefeated - and we miss Rob Williams. They’re certainly not a title contender without Rob, but they should still be a good defensive team. It’s baffling how little they want to try on that end of the court.

This team doesn’t even pretend to care about defense so far. Embarrassing stuff tonight. Yes...I've mentioned our early defense already..

Vonleh has major issues playing good D without fouling. He has to fix that or you won't get the value out of him you could.
Go sign Derrick Favors!
Tatum, Brown and Brogdon are all taking less than 40% 3 point shots, Vonleh takes none. Smart 64.7%, White 57.6%, Horford 84.2%, Williams 70.6% and Hauser 100%. That's five out of your top 9 players by minutes being way too high a percentage of 3 point shots. Move the ball more and get those guys involved in non 3 point offense.
Horford and Smart need to rebound better!

Lively would be nice (getting ahead of myself) or even Tschiebwe

Lively would be nice (getting ahead of myself) or even Tschiebwe Well Williams is an elite rebounder and DPOY type defender. He certainly hides their flaws, yet he's out for awhile they can also adjust. Hard to rebound when most guys are just hanging around the 3 point line and two of your better rebounder per position in Horford and Smart are at career lows per 36 minutes. At the same time we've played 4 games, 3 against teams that play big. Yet we've seen them have major success doing this in 2018 and 2020. They just had better backup centers. Given Williams is out and you never know how long you'll have him, we need depth. We have guys like Kornet and Jackson, yet no Favors or WCS? This team has two big weaknesses even with a ton of talent, another rebounding big as Vonleh is doing crap like getting 4 fouls in 5 minutes. He's averaging over 10 fouls per 36 minutes. Highlighted by Grant Williams not being a good rebounder. Then it's still no real point guard with great dribbling ability. I've stopped looking at upcoming drafts. I fully expect Brad to keep dealing picks. Why I was looking at a guy like Jaylen Smith in free agency over Gallinari.

Their "Trade Ideas" articles tend not to be worth much but Bleacher Report suggested a protected 1st for PJ Washington. I've always like him as a future replacement for Al but not, necessarily, a backup for RWill. EDIT - In related news, I can't believe we got rid of Bol Bol!!!

I'd love Mo Bamba and Frankly RJ Hampton, both a back of the bench right now. Only going to get worse when guys on injury list get healthy. Yet maybe Fultz and Issac will never be healthy lol.

I’m going to bed but there’s a pretty decent chance the shooting variance evens out and Celtics blow this game. Defensive focus just isn’t there this year like it was last year.

Brogdon highest +/- and still only 9 MP. Are they trying to keep him healthy? I don’t get the lack of PT in relation to Smart and White.

Why is Smart taking nearly as many shots as Tatum? He is 3 for 14, a -15. Back to Smart hero ball time, it seems. He just can't learn.
Now 3 for 15, -18. Celts now behind with a minute to go.

Brown and Tatum - 11 turnovers!
75 points in the first half, only 48 second half including OT.

It is early, but William's absence is huge, Smart is not playing smart - and turnovers are a general problem. So - as expected, the team is a work in progress.

How does Horford play 41 minutes and get 2 rebounds?

I’m going to bed but there’s a pretty decent chance the shooting variance evens out and Celtics blow this game. Defensive focus just isn’t there this year like it was last year. I stated as much, here, after they were 3-0. I hate to rain on parades but the overall lack of D was to obvious not to note. I see this season much like last season except the peaks and valleys will be leveled out some. In other words the first half or so will be frustrating but the overall record will only be a little better than last year then with a healthy roster in tact the Celtics will be one of the better teams down the stretch but not have quite the dominate record they did during last seasons stretch run. Similar overall record to last season. I'd love to see what trades Stevens could pull off.

Overall he's been better with that. Not debating tonight though. That said, would the Celts consider trading him? After all their depth is at Guard and how much can Payton Pritchard actually get you? I think with our overall depth that Smart as a trade chip might get you the best overall value back? Thoughts? I'm curious what other think about that? I'm not sold on the idea but think he might be the best player we have that we can afford to trade and still get good return value back. I'm sure that part at least most can relate to, curious though.

This team is in trouble if Horford doesn't improve. Lowest rebounding, steal and blocks per game for his career, with the worst defensive rating. Which is just highlighted because you lack a good backup center. Maybe he rested in offseason and is taking it slow to be ready for playoffs. Yet he's your biggest problem on D right now. He's gone from 9.5 rebounds playing with Robert Williams to 5 rebounds per 36 minutes playing without him.
About time we try the young guy MK or they need to bring someone in and fast.
You'd also love the option of taking White out of starting spot and adding more size and rebounding. We just don't have it. Hauser has been unreal shooting, yet horrible at rebounding.
This is where we see how good our new coach is.

Good win - big games by the Js, Brogden really good, a win to build on. Work in progress.
