As a mostly box score viewing Celtics fan, I feel like a Jaylen Brown facial injury keeping him out is about the best possible bad news the team could get. Not something that lingers once he's back and forces some rotation players to get more development/minutes. Then Brown comes back fully rested for the end of the season and playoffs. Only downside is potentially losing the #1 seed which as someone else pointed out, has actual larger implications as of now. I'm ambivalent towards that. I think it could force Joe to play more 3 guards line-ups, but we really need Smart to be healthy to do that. The guard depth is so crazy it's easy to forget we're missing our starting PG lol. A 3 guard line-up doesn't really work with Fast PP, you need The Captain to do it properly. I like Hauser, but I'm still not sold in him being anything more than a JAG.

He's a bit like Jaylen in that when he's off, he's borderline unplayable and might even look like he doesn't know how to play basketball.

Tatum...first he annoys you by dribbling to no clock, then drains a three. He is as great as his motivation on a given possession

Hauser and White have the big +/-. Tatum is at zero.

God f*cking damn it, what a move by Tatum. Hornets getting schooled for trying to make this longer than it needs to.

White had only taken 8+ 3PA twice with the C’s before going 8/14 tonight. He was really feeling it tonight

Don't forget Danny built the foundation. I talked about 2 guys that Stevens traded for. And loving the team, no worries. it's akin, hopefully, to Theo putting the finishing touches on the foundation that DD built.

Interesting factoid for our hopeful MVP - "With a 3 in the closing seconds of the second quarter, Tatum became the youngest player (24 years, 344 days) in NBA history to reach 1,000 3-pointers. He’s the first to do it before turning 25 years old. "

Ross to the Suns, Reggie Jackson to the Nuggets
Danny Green and I’m happy. Even if it’s just for the vibes.

Brad Stevens on adding a buyout guy: “There’s a lot of different ways to look at it,” Stevens said. “But I think the way that you phrased it is, yeah, ‘can play, but doesn’t need to play.’ And that’s a hard needle to thread, right? And I don’t blame anybody that wouldn’t want to fill that role. But I think we’re really deep right now. And we already have a bunch of guys that are giving up for one cause, and they’ve done it.” Stevens sounded hesitant to add a player who would expect more than a smattering of minutes. In all likelihood, the Celtics will look for a player happy to sit on the end of the bench but capable of contributing on any given night. “And you know if there was something that moves the needle even differently, then we have to consider it, obviously,” Stevens said. “But I think that that’s probably the most likely thing. And so you’ll look at it and you will decide, OK, is there somebody that fits that need and who’s really excited to be here if that’s the case, or is it do you feel like you’ve got that all filled and maybe invest in a younger player. And so we’re going to assess all that over the next few days and try to figure it out.” theathletic.com/4181940/2023/02/10/mike-muscala-new-celtic-win-hornets/

Brad really has been a genius when filling out this roster. His coaching experience clearly shows. We will have to see more how Muscala fits but on the surface it’s a great addition for this year and next. He kept their first round picks because the costs of other guys like Poelti (a probable rental or expensive resign) was too high. After this draft, they’ll now have all first round picks to deal (taking into account the possible pick swap).
The way they’ve structured the roster to keep guys like Griffin and Brogdon fresh is superb. Gallo’s injury I’m sure has them playing Tatum more minutes than they’d like, but also Tatum is an a$$joke about insisting he plays and plays a lot. I respect that a lot so it’s not a knock. He’s young, and loves to play so his minutes are going to be high. He’s targeted bench guys who can really help but don’t need to play all the time and are comfortable with their roles.
Next year they have Muscala and Gallo signed already and that opens the MLE. As of now, I hope Griffin is back in the same role. If they want to add a big, you upgrade Kornet.
They will deal Pritchard this offseason. He said he was hoping to get traded at the deadline. I’ve never heard a player say something like that and had more respect for him afterwards, but here we are… i have no doubt he’s still excited to be here to see where this goes and he always keeps himself ready.

Pritchard was hoping he’d get traded (per the Globe):
“I definitely was expecting and hoping [for a trade],” Pritchard said. “But you know, I [have to] look at the good things. We’re the best team in the NBA right now and we have a great team with really great players, so for me it’s an opportunity to learn and to keep growing.”
I continue to maintain that he’s trade bait sooner or later. Maybe the right deal wasn’t available this deadline, but hard to imagine that he’s more valuable to you as emergency guard depth than he would be in a trade.

His salary is small so it’s not being much in on its own. It will be much easier to replace him and trade him over the summer.

He's played over 20 minutes 6 times all year, team is 4-2. I love Pritchard, yet he hasn't been good this year. Minutes went down 2nd year in a row and him wanting a bigger role is now affecting his play. This isn’t a surprise, tough to get him Minutes last year and you added Brogdon. Should have traded him last year when his value was high. Then again wasn't it about this time last year and playoffs when he took off? Let's hope the trade deadline drama is over and he can get back to being who he is. When he's right he's a darn good player.

Reports are that RJ Hampton might be getting waived by the Magic. No truth to the rumor that UMass has already started driving to Orlando to pick him and his luggage up.

Incompetent in-game coaching here by Mazzulla. Grow up and use timeouts like a normal coach for once.
