I agree, they need some sort of RH who can pop 20+ HRs preferably one who can play RF, none really come to mind right now so not sure who thatd be. Ceddanne Rafaela says "You called?"

Doubt the Pirates would want him and I'm not saying they should trade him, but I'd put Verdugo in a deal with 2nd tier prospects for Bryan Reynolds to get the RH OF bat. Trade Verdugo for Carlos Carrasco and a prospect. The Mets need a corner outfield guy anyways. Please, please anyone but Carrasco — he was absolutely awful against .500+ teams

I guess perhaps around the all-star game or deadline if he really forces the issue but I doubt he breaks camp with the Sox. Seems to me he'd be more likely part of a package to get that RF I'm talking about than to be it himself. Not that I'm advocating trading him but of the top 5 prospects he's probably up there as the one I'd be okay dealing as the headliner for an established solid ML player.

Agreed, he has little to no chance of breaking camp, but if he has a s trong first few months who knows. And unless Bleis really shoves this year I don't think you trade a Gold Glove CF with speed and a bat - and if he learns patience he becomes virtually untouchable. CFs have always been my binky so I miiiight be a bit baised.

I dont care for this deal. From what ive read he's a negative defensively. So sure he can play LF but basically paying that deal to a guy best suited to DH. Get Xander signed already Bloom. Gonna be fun when we trade for Reynolds to play RF

If they can get someone to play RF this year with control left on their deal, perhaps that could slide to CF next year when Hernandez deal is up I'd be fine dealing cedanne.

Todays signings don’t mean much if the Red Sox don’t sign Xander.

I'm okay with him taking JD's spot and DH'ing as I don't want to see him in LF and Verdugo in RF. I'm hoping they can at least get a legit RF. I was hoping for 2 of Haniger, Conforto, and Yoshida. I'm not sure how much money is left for another OF, starting pitcher or 2, possibly a catcher, or whatever. Seems the lineup now skews more lefty. I still think they need a RH thumper to go with Story and hopefully X. I am surprised that Yoshida got 85 million. Thought he'd be more around 50 million. If he's a dynamic leadoff man then it'll be worth it. I still pine for Comforto. When he was healthy, he was consistently a 4+ fWAR player. If that shoulder is healed, I'd be all over him like a sweatsuit in the rain.

I too want conforto but unless they trade Verdugo I'm not sure he really fits the need of the lineup as its skewing pretty lefty heavy. I would deal Verdugo and replace him with conforto in a second though.

Todays signings don’t mean much if the Red Sox don’t sign Xander. Then I guess today's signings don't mean much because as I've posted multiple times, there's no way in hades the Sox are resigning Bogaerts. If they do, I'd have to revisit everything I thought I knew to be true. Could the world actually be flat? Cigarettes don't cause cancer? The Bee Gees are better than the Beatles?

Yoshida also looks like he has basically no lefty/righty splits, so maybe the lefty thing isn't as big of an issue (although I don't know if Japan has as many lefty killers).

I may be wrong, but the Sox might have control of him for 6 years, even if he's signed for 5.

Probably bats leadoff even though he isnt particularly fast. If he gets on base as much as he did over there, all is well.

I may be wrong, but the Sox might have control of him for 6 years, even if he's signed for 5. Standard for Japanese players to have a clause in their contract that specifically makes them a free agent at the end. Otherwise he would go to arb with less than 6 years of service time
