This team can certainly keep 6 WRs and should if the two rookies look good.

If they wanted a work-around, Zappe could be #3 & Cunningham the #2 so he could do his gadget package. That doesn’t work unless you’re comfortable with Cunningham as your primary backup. You don’t get to use #3 unless both #1 and #2 go down. So if Mac gets hurt, you’d have to use Cunningham and couldn’t use Zappe unless and until Cunningham gets hurt. No. Just the gadget guy. If Mac got hurt in the 1st three quarters -- the odds of this happening would be pretty low I'd think -- than Cunningham would also have to "get hurt," and then it becomes Zappe's game. Some small amount of risk, no doubt. But maybe worth it if the kid is as electric as has been reported.

Maybe they’ll carry one less special teams only guy and give us the young WRs we all want with the new fair catch rule for kickoffs. I'm good with the special teams guys.

NE signed TE Anthony Firkser. Raekwan McMillan to IR. Might have been tough for him to make the team anyway.
Depending on HOW injured, we could see a release with an injury settlement coming at some point.
EDIT - Partially torn Achilles in practice per reports. Feel for him.

MockDraftable www.mockdraftable.com/ has a database of historical combine performances. If you search for a particular player you can find the top 10 historically comparable performers (of the same position). For those interested, the statistic used to find comparables is "...euclidean distance in the 14 space defined by the z-scores of the players' performance in the context of a particular positional designation." That explanation is from the site's designer Marcus Armstrong. The statistic actually appears to be expressed as 1 minus Euclidean Distance, so it looks like a correlation. Here are the Patriot's 2023 draftees. 17 Christian Gonzalez (CB) www.mockdraftable.com/player/christian-gonzalez Some pretty good names here. #3 Deonte Banks, #5 Jamal Dean, #6 Jeff Odukah, #8 Jaycee Horn, #9 Kyle Fuller 46 Keion White (DE) www.mockdraftable.com/player/keion-white#10 Stephon Tuitt 76 Marte Mapu no combine 107 Jake Andrews (OC) www.mockdraftable.com/player/jake-andrewsnot too excited about any of those names 112 Chad Ryland (K) www.mockdraftable.com/player/chad-rylandprobably not real meaningful. Hopkins released by the Cards. I'm not against it but guessing Patriots Mystique isn't high enough for us to win a likely bidding war. Someone will get a little better at WR, I guess it'll be interesting to see if he's still elite and can be healthy.

I love Nuge on the Patriots. Think it’s a great fit in New England with Mac.

BB drafted defense this year, and with him in charge of it, it should be really good. The offense is another story. The key to a good offense is Bill O’Brien. If he can harness Mac’s skills and Klem can solidify the offensive line play, we could be a decent team. Maybe even good. Maybe even a surprisingly good team.

I know it’s only OTAs but it’s great to read the reports about the offense looking normal.

Phil Perry had Eric Galko of the Shrine Bowl on this week with the scoop on a couple of 2023 Patriots draftees. The one he is very excited about will surprise most:

Omg had to stop 10 minutes in, it's OTAs, talk about trying to read too much into things.
Cunningham to WR is the biggest news for me.
Douglas popping shouldn't be a surprise, think Marcus Jones type athlete. With him it's about route running, like a lot of smaller school stud athletes, he didn't have to run crazy good routes to dominate.
I'd say the next interesting thing would be Bourne working on 2nd unit, even with no Juju. Those rookies keep doing well, Thornton stands out and he's by pick for surprising cut or trade guy.

Omg had to stop 10 minutes in ... Then you missed where Eric broke down the O-lineman's playing week @ the Shrine Bowl & why he might become the next Shaq Mason (my words). He is very high on our 5th round pick.

I know about every player we drafted, I've read more scouting reports than I care to mention and videos on all of them.

No doubt your extensive research makes you better informed on college prospects than Eric Galko (who makes his living knowing/scouting college players) & Phil Perry (who has for years made contacts in the college game through his NextPats podcast).
Surely you should avoid any new content on players you studied extensively and are presently borderline expert on. I understand & agree.
But next time I, or some other member, makes the effort to share content (NOT opinion) we think might offer value to other members of the board, maybe keep your snide comments to yourself?
Is that asking too much -- a bit of good manners?

Btw, Emory Hunt was on with Ross Tucker & he was very complimentary of the Pats draft class but what was somewhat unique was his singling out Johnny Lumpkin as the UDFA that caught his eye: Big blocking TE but he shakes at the top his route, separates. Soft hands. link (for those interested): www.rosstucker.com/podcasts/the-college-draft-with-ross-tucker/

Hopkins is coming for a visit per Rapsheet. Still conflicted its better on paper than on the field, but would really like this team to be relevant.

Salary cap might be the biggest issue with him. He's in it for the most money and we might not be able to meet his demand. When he had Brady, guys just wanted to catch passes from him for less money and a chance to win a Super Bowl. We don't have that appeal anymore.

Good chance Hopkins is trying to drive up price for Chiefs and Bills. But he’s a great player whose skill set (winning at the catch point, route timing) would fit well with Mac’s strengths (anticipatory throwing, timing).
