Also, this Padres team is so much like last year’s Sox. So terrible with RISP, you might do better just giving them an automatic runner at 2nd lol

Not the prettiest ending, but back into 4th place!

Crappy performance by Jensen: walks and pitchs right down the middle. He needs an IL stint!

No confidence builder there. it was a save, but was it really? Maybe he will gain confidence that he didn't blow it, but it was a tentative save. Lets see him in the next opportunity.

After a full week off I thought Jensen would be better. It is crazy that we might of found our 2nd baseman in the Vazquez trade and we have Abreu who looks like he will be a starting OF in the league soon too. Maybe next year Yoshi goes full time DH and Abreu can come up and start in LF or maybe he takes over Robs spot next year. Just can’t believe we got both of those guys for a 32 year old catcher.

I've tuned in halfway into both these games, which has apparently just been in time to see the jet-lagged portions of the evening. Haven't seen the Red Sox score a run yet. But they're 2-0!
To give an optimistic spin on Jansen: he had a week off so maybe it was rust leading to the poor control. He didn't give up a hit at least.

Jansen threw several pitches 94, 95. I'd be far more concerned if the control came back but the velocity didn't.

It's too small a sample size to say Sale is back but according to the eye test it appears he is.
There will probably be a roster crunch at some point but I have no desire to see Enmanel Valdez get sent down. I like his LH bat and pop toward the bottom of the order. My guess is if Story does come back we'll see Story and Hernandez up the middle and Valdez will get squeezed out, but I'd rather see Valdez and Story up the middle with Henandez platooning with Valdez and subbing in on defense.
Personally I'd yank Jansen out of the closer role and let him work the kinks out in a lesser role and once he gets straightened out, then reinstate him as closer. I'd go with Martin to close temporarily. I dont know if its fatigue from overthrowing or something mechanical but Jansen's command/control is definitely off.
Cora has me nervous that he's overextending Sale and Paxton already too much in games, keeping them in for 2 many pitches trying to steal outs.

Valdez has a higher OPS than Devers or Yoshida. Play him!

Was same with braveslast year and dodgers before that. He’s Jekyll and Hyde. And his control comith and go.

Valdez has a higher OPS than Devers or Yoshida. Play him! As long as it’s against RHP, definitely. He’s not pretty against LHP.

There's something about this team that different than any other we've had in a long time. Instead of relying on 2-3 hitters to win the game, it's everybody. Outside of Devers, any one of them can win a game. The word that comes to mind is "delightful". You never know who the hero of the night will be. Could be anyone at any time. Just a joy to watch. Of course, pitching will always be the key, but the lineup is loaded with talent up and down. They might send Casas down for a while to straighten him out, especially when Dural comes back. Maybe use Duran as a DH. Lots of possibilities. Play Turner at 1st. Whatever.
No matter how the season turns out, it's been a pure joy to watch every night.

Does Chang have options? Valdez does. I'm curious what happens to the OF. Obviously, Tapia is first to go, but duvall and ref are redundant, Duran has to stay. I'd prefer Valdez stays up to keep mashing against righties, but I get why they may have to send him down. Could be some interesting decisions made.

They have 4 middle infielders and 1 OF theoretically coming off the IL at some point. Reyes DFA, Tapia DFA and Valdez option are the easy moves. Injuries will probably make things simple, but if not the next moves to consider are Casas option, Arroyo DFA/trade, Chang DFA/trade, Ref trade, Kiké trade and Duvall trade.
I like holding on to Chang and Ref because they have multiple cheap years left. Duvall trade sounds kinda spicy tbh, you might get a decent piece for him in a couple months and I don't mind Kiké replacing him as an OF.

He's got a 130 wRC+ in May, and that's with some bad wOBA-xwOBA luck. 163 wRC+ since May 7th.
ADD: To be fair, he's only been the team's 8th best hitter by wRC+ in May (!!). Devers, at 127, is 9th (!!!).

He seems to have righted the ship nicely, SSS be damned. Cut down on the Ks, getting back to his high OBP and not swinging through so many FBs in the zone. Remember he’s only had a few hundred major league at bats. All things considered, I’ll take this start to his career.

I figure the Sox are carrying 5 backups alongside the 9 "regulars".
If the Sox made the postseason and all of their guys were healthy...hahaha.
My catchers are Wong and McGuire.
My infielders are: Turner, Casas, Valdez, Story, Davers, Hernandez.
My outfielders are: Yoshida, Duran, Verdugo, Duvall, Refsnyder, Tapia.
If Valdez doesn't continue to be a good offensive player and Mondesi is healthy then I'd have Hernandez and Story up the middle with Mondesi off the bench.
Or if Casas is still struggling to hit .200 toward the end of the season then they could play Turner at 1b and DH Yoshida, particularly if Duvall is productive enough to play regularly in LF.
But my top options include Casas and Valdez. It also includes Tapia because I like a LH bat off the bench that can run and play defense. If not him Mondesi is also a possibility but I'm not convinced that he can be a guy off the bench you'd use as a lefty PH. It is good to be able to start your lefties and still have a viable lefty option available later in the game in your lefties are switched out for the righties should a southpaw come into pitch.
Of course, all the best of plans don't matter as injuries almost always happen and change things.
So guys like Arroyo and Chang and Mondesi could play their way on if others get hurt.
