“I figure the Sox are carrying 5 backups alongside the 9 "regulars".” — Don’t the rules now require all teams to carry 13 position players and 13 pitchers? (Or am I completely misremembering that?)

I think they're allowed a maximum of 13 pitchers but it's not requirement although I could be misremembering the rule myself. I cant imagine in a post season setting where a 5th starter isnt needed that a team would be required to keep 13 pitchers on the roster

If posters have been watching the games they've seen Casas blistering the baseball but saddled with a bad babip (.195!). That doesn't constitute a reason for sending him down. If anything it's a reason to let that number regress to something closer to the league average.

With the series win already secured, I view today’s game as a win win situation: If Kluber pitchs great: Series sweep If Kluber is bad: It’ll make the FO decision to get rid of him easier (although I think they’ll give 2-3 more starts)

On the subject of the roster crunch coming down the pipe…
Duvall — Tapia gets traded. I have loved his play, but with Duran proving himself, he’s going to become redundant
Whitlock — Houck goes to the pen and Garza gets optioned (correct me if he doesn’t have options)
Story — Valdez gets optioned. He’s been great, but can’t carry a defensively limited player who really only hits against RHP
Arroyo — Reyes optioned.
Mondesi — Arroyo traded. Sucks cause I love his energy, but Mondesi is a bigger weapon w/ the glove and speed.
Refsynder has got to stay seeing he’s just an absolute beast against LHP. I’d love to hang onto Chang, but damn, it’s really hard to see the team holding onto him if/when Story, Arroyo and Mondesi are all healthy.

He's batting third cause Turner is out and this is supposed to minimize the disruption with all the vets who like their regular spot in the lineup. Whatever, the lineup doesn't matter.

The lineup doesn’t matter? 😂 The stats say that the lineup doesn’t matter much. Additionally 3rd is less important than 1,2,4, and 5. 3rd despite the traditional value placed on it, actually is the 5th most important slot in the lineup.

Last night he was robbed of an extra base hit by Tatis’s unbelievable play.

Verdugo 9 Yoshida DH Casas 3 Devers 5 Duran 8 Tapia 7 Hernandez 6 Valdez 4 McGuire 2 I understand Cora getting cute and moving Casas up. That said, I’d hate to have Casas making the last out in a close game with Devers in the on deck circle.

Since I don’t think the guy you’re responding to picked up on this the first time, I just want to make explicitly clear the topic is the ORDER of the lineup, not the players that are in it.

Valdez could play more with Kiké being more of a utility guy. Then there`s Mondesi. I wonder if we will see as much of Mondesi in 2023 as we did of Paxton in 2022? I’ve been thinking that for a while. Since it’s almost June and the best report we have on Mondesi is that he picked up the morning paper in his driveway, I’m skeptical about when we see him.

Yeah, the lack of reports has me thinking it would be lucky if we saw him by August at the very earliest. Really makes the Yu Chang signing all the more critical.

I interpret this comment to mean Cora is making a frivolous lineup decision not in the best interests of the team? He is a manager. He is paid to make decisions based on the information he has on hand (much more information than we have). He is responsible to his players & his employers to make thoughtful and effective ones. But you don't like his choice & so casually label it "frivolous"?

Stolen from somebody or others tweet:
The Sox have 9 consecutive games where the starter got 5+ strikeouts while allowing 4 or fewer runs.

I’m not sure “frivolous” is the word I’d use, but I definitely don’t like it.

Casas should not be hitting that high in the lineup until he gets his crap together

DOB could use a scan through your comment history. Disappointing the guy paid to watch every game is still saying things like, “He needs to get going.”
