Keith Law on Twitter yesterday said he heard it was from a dry needling treatment (basically acupuncture) gone wrong. Uhh I'm not acupuncturist but it would seem for it to lead to a punctured long someone must have really F'ed up.. My thoughts exactly. I've worked with PTs who are certified in dry needling and have sat through a couple of work seminars about the topic at our hospital. You really need to be overzealous to cause a pneumothorax.

I actually remember the team doctor on the Chargers doing that to the QB when he was giving a pain shot to his rib cartledge a few years back. But from what I have seen, acupuncture needles go in shallow?

A larger muscle bulk like your upper trapezius is safer to work with and is usually an area therapists will learn on first as you'll avoid mishaps. My guess was they were working on a smaller rotator cuff muscle like the subscapularis or infraspinatus and just overshot.

We’ve read conflicting things about the Red Sox looking at pitching and college bats over the last week.

If the common wisdom is that there's a strong top-11, I really like our chances of getting one of them at 12. I'm looking forward to this one.

I'm all for drafting the best player available regardless of position, but I'm still hoping that the BPA just happens to be a college pitcher

We’ve read conflicting things about the Red Sox looking at pitching and college bats over the last week. Here's hoping Joe Doyle has better sources this time. Smith seems like a too good to be true pick here, but so was Marcelo. Would be a great celebration on this board I believe if it somehow happened.

Nobody even mentions the extreme bias they have towards drafting HS players that are young for their class Jim Callis had a moment back in 2005 correctly predicting the first 18 picks. It might never happen again but it is possible to get some idea of what players mlb teams are most interested in. grantland.com/the-triangle/mlb-draft-jim-callis-q-and-a/www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2005-final-mlb-draft-projection/www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/2005_Amateur_DraftHe also correctly predicted the Sox taking Ellsbury and Hansen at 23 and 26 as well as their interest in HS catcher Egan predicting him as a supplemental 1st instead of the second round where he went. Pretty remarkable mock from Jim that year.

Seems that most of the good draft writers are all over the place with us. Interesting that Kiley had a few new names and drafted at 12 could give us a few more bites at the apple so to say. With it looking like a pretty good top 11 is it better to over spend on a top guy or maybe have more money in R2-4?

Griffin is young for his class
Not sure I can manage another round of Keith Law telling us that nobody has made it out of Mississippi high schools though

If the Sox do wind up taking a bat in the first round, I think that will increase the interest in looking at college pitching shortly after that. While I was enjoying the Sox knocking Grayson Rodriguez around last night, I decided to look at Law's and Joe Doyle's top prospects list for arms. Keith had 13 college pitchers in his top 100 and Joe had 16. I thought I would try to put that together here for possible second and third round picks. Mike always has a great draft preview here. Maybe this will help start the process.
I'll write the player followed be giving Law's and Doyle's (future stars series) rankings.
I am adding the mlb.com rankings that vermont was kind enough to give.
Payton Tolle TCU 44 41 86 Jonathan Santucci Duke 46 34 34 Ben Hess AL 54 58 45 Luke Holman LSU 60 49 48 Gage Jump LSU 61 106 60 Bryce Cunningham Vandy 62 59 44 Josh Hartle Wake 66 92 62 Carter Holton Vandy 74 52 61 Drew Beam TN 76 48 63 Ryan Johnson Dallas B 77 40 43 Sam Stuhr U of Prt 89 199 183 Michael Massey Duke 90 80 107 Matt Ager UCSB 93 164 106
These 6 are only in Joe Doyle's top 100
Jurrangelo Cijntje MSST 44 31 (He was 15 for Keith) Ryan Prager A+M 69 59 Ryan Forcucci UCSD 71 85 Aiden May ORST 75 82 Gage Ziehl Miami 85 88 Thatcher Hurd LSU 99 112
Only listed in mlb's top 100
Tristan Smith Clemson 68 Tyson Neighbors K ST 78 Kal Stephen MSST 87 Daniel Eagan Presby 89
For the people who watch college, please feel free to comment on this group (I'm looking at you thegoodthebadthesox).
I spaced it better when it was written. Maybe a mod can help make it more readable?
I need to make a correction. The number of players in the top 100 I listed for Keith and Joe excluded those who would likely go in the first round. Keith had 5 more college arms going in the first including Cijntje at 15.
I don't have a BA subscription to add their rankings. If a mod would like to do that I think it would be a nice addition.

I’ve written a bit about Holton before and I’m a huge Ryan Johnson guy. I took my name out of the NCAA site rep pool this year but I’ll be working the entire College Station regional for ESPN so should get some really good looks at everyone from A&M, Texas, Louisiana, and Grambling. Super excited to get another look at the Texas guys because they are a much more explosive offensive team than they looked to be when I caught them early in the season.

Thatcher Hurd definitely was a character in seasons 11 through 15 of some British show that has been running six episodes per year since 1971.

For a second I was actually going on my head through the shows that met the criteria. It was "You Must Be Barmy". Thatcher was originally brought in as a 12-year-old hired by the vicar to tend his garden, but "that Hurd boy" eventually became the main love interest of Abelia Oliver who worked under Maid Higgins in the kitchens of the Preller [sic] estate.

Lots of Texas and Texas A&M guys on there that I'll be seeing this weekend but as I already have seen multiple games of pretty much every player on that roster (and 30+ games of the A&M guys), I was excited to see Louisiana's SS Kyle DeBarge ranked in the top 100. He has a really fun profile and I'll be interested to see how it plays on this stage.
