That would be the farthest home run by a Red Sox player this year, were it in MLB, I think

It’s a shame because I’d love for him to provide meaningful contribution in Boston and think he can but between the very good current outfield depth and his handedness, just not sure he’s got a spot to break in. Would imagine he’s the second piece in a trade this off-season, not quite enough prospect equity to be a headliner but a guy that teams will want for sure.

The Worcester park factor is crazy. Before today Abreu had a .380 wOBA but only a 114 wRC+. I also didn’t realize he was so patient, running a 16% walk rate.

And a third HR for Abreu. Wow.

Yeah I'd be a little curious about park factor calculations, if they might create misleading impressions for some players who are less impacted by the park than others. Not curious enough to research it though

Noah Song: 2IP 1H 0ER 0BB 3K I wonder if he would have gone for another inning if they didn’t have that really long half of the inning at bat.

Noah Song: 2IP 1H 0ER 0BB 3K I wonder if he would have gone for another inning if they didn’t have that really long half of the inning at bat. The announcer said Song was scheduled to throw 45 pitches, so you may be right. Despite the nice box score I thought he still had a lot of trouble finding the strike zone.

Curious for those who have been watching has Abreu developed a lot this year? His k-rate is way down, and SP's writeup says cutting down the swing and miss is most important, but he hasn't moved in the rankings at all.

His k-rate is way down, and SP's writeup says cutting down the swing and miss is most important, but he hasn't moved in the rankings at all. Yeah I'd be interested in hearing more about Abreu – the walk rates have always been strong but he's done a terrific job cutting down on strikeouts over the past couple years (and not just in tiny sample sizes), I'm curious if that has changed some evaluations. I seem to remember Keith Law being pretty high on him relative to other outlets when the trade happened; not like he thought he was a superstar, just that he had the tools to take another step forward. 2021 ~30 K% 2022 ~26 K% 2023 ~21 K% That's a really nice progression for a guy that already walks and has reasonable pop. Edit: an except from the Law article I mentioned – "...an unorthodox swing... great bat speed and much-improved contact in the past two years after a swing adjustment during the pandemic... he’s had consistently strong line-drive rates even back to 2019. He’s more raw power than game power but could probably get to one more gear, especially if he can stay more closed through contact. Abreu is a plus defender in right with at least a 70 arm, so even if he settles in at 15 to 20 homers a year but with a lot of walks and doubles, he could be a strong regular."Law was definitely a believer; he was also much more bullish on Abreu's defense than the soxprospects profile, for whatever that's worth.
