Patriots 2023 Season Thread

6 teams with 5 wins, one with four, two with 3 wins and then the Panthers. Yeah Patriots likely win more games, so do the other teams! BTW Wilson just had his best game of the season. A bunch of those teams play each other and are guaranteed to get more wins. Chiefs, Bills and Broncos are all playing for playoffs. I'd say 1-3 might be likely given Zappe play, chances of going 2-2 is likely equal to going 0-4. Chiefs are pissed off, Bills will want revenge and Broncos are red hot. Add in Wilsons best game of the year for Jets and it's looking much better than it did even a few games ago.

I could see them winning another game…. That would be fine but 2 games would suck. Fortunately this team is so bad they played about as well as they possibly could in the first half on Thursday and still almost blew it against Mitch Trubisky

The commanders are the team we have to keep an eye on They have 2 winnable games left; the next 2 weeks and one of those is against the Jets. Let’s hope they win this week. Key games this week (current wins in parentheses) Chargers (5) @ Raiders (5) Bears (5) @ Browns (8) Jets (5) @ Dolphins (9) Texans (7) @ Titans (5) Washington (4) @ Rams (6) Falcons (6) @ Panthers (1) Niners (10) @ Cardinals (3) As we saw last night, anything can happen, but leaving those aside… We know at least one 5 win team will win… The other games to realistically win are Bears, Titans and Washington.

Arizona vs Chicago Sun, Dec 24 @chicago will be a big game. If Arizona can win this game it will give the Patriots leeway to win one more game. Washington beat us this year so they get tiebreaker and pick behind us.

If Malik is the next Taysum Hill this will be very annoying.

I would have loved to see Cunningham start one game, just to see what he really can do. I guess Baltimore saw something in him BB didn't. When you suck at QB and you let one go, it gets confusing. I wonder if Mac was on the practice squad, would anyone have taken him?

He can't throw, didn't workout at WR, it's not a loss. Makes much more sense on Ravens, a team that has an offense built around a running QB. I'd bet a lot of money, Greer would look a lot better throwing than Cunningham would.
Just another reason why I hate Trent Brown. Undrafted free agent the Patriots tried at multiple positions and even made him active for games and he's acting like the Patriots didn't respect his talent. This teams issues for two years is no D respecting big play passing. Zappe showed you how it open up things, Cunningham does the exact opposite. I'd do single coverage and send everyone to the box, pass and run blitz all game long, the results would be bad. He's not even ready to play in the Baltimore offense till he improves his passing. There's a reason he went undrafted!

It seems whenever Trent Brown is involved the worst is usually assumed. His quote is assumed by many to be a shot at the Patriots -- I don't see it that way. Last week when my brother was in town & staying with my parents, my Pops gave him a hundred bucks and said, "Here, tonight, go check-out Dominic's on Main, the food there is great. You'll love it." I promise you he wasn't taking a shot at my Mom's cooking. He wasn't being passive-aggressive. He was wishing a loved one well. Now, until the breathless pack of local reporters gather in front of Trent & ask him specifically, "Were you suggesting the Patriots did not respect Malik's talent?" & he answers in the affirmative, I will assume he meant no disrespect to the organization or coaches of the team he works for.

www.pff.com/draft/big-board?season=2024Now maybe your board is different, but that top 10 is full of players at positions of need. Yeah I'm not wanting to take a DE or DT, but we can use an upgrade there if you want best defense in the game type crap. #4 and #5, best LT and best receiving TE in years. Even if we fall out of top 3, there's multiple ways forward. Trade down get a very good player, then trade back up for the QB you want.

Come on he literally said go where your talent is respected. Your comp is nothing like that!

My comp is very much like that.
1) Go there, the food is good. 2) Go there, where the food is good.
Neither mean the food isn't also good here.
People parse athletes' words, expecting them to be wordsmiths and say everything just so. Otherwise, let's assume the worst possible interpretation.
Trent will be speaking this week. Let's ask him. I'll reserve judgement.
Btw, Trent has been a HUGE (pun intended) bargain at LT. Top performer, low pay (12M cap in 2023). Plays hurt too. Wish we had a few more as good as him.

I agree with your overall point: more ways to improve than just Top 2 pick. In fact, should we land a top 2 pick, I think I might prefer to trade down. I like what I've seen (so far) of McCarthy & Daniels. Are Williams or Maye locks to be that much better? I'd suppose there's a math equation that could be applied to determine which is the more likely better outcome: Daniels/McCarthy + Player 1 & Player 2, or Williams/Maye + nobody. A smaller consideration, the cap space: the QB would cost less, plus Player 1 & Player 2 would likely supplant veterans at presumably premium positions. Anyway, there will be a lot of movement on that list between now & April. I wouldn't mind putting someone like that Illinois DT next to Barmore for 2024. Getting Gonzo & Marcus & Judon back ...

On a different note: How are we feeling about JC Jackson for 2024? Do we want him back? If so, how much of a pay cut should he take (he has 3 non-guaranteed years left, each at roughly 12M + 2M roster bonus)? His stock had fallen pretty low in SD.

His comments imply the Patriots didn't respect his talent, the comp for that is your pops saying go here because your mom's cooking is bad, not just because the food is good. Yours implies nothing negative, Browns does. Why do you think that is? He gets injured a lot, needs to be constantly motivated and kept in shape and he pulls crap like this and being late to team meetings all the time per reports. It's why he will never get top of market money no matter what PFF rankings say.

Williams is a different tier for me, I see why people like Maye, he's just more raw and an upside guy for me. Maybe that will change after I watch tape. Outside of Williams, Penix is the next best pro passer I've seen this year.

“Go flourish where your talent is respected lil bradda,” does not MEAN "your talent is not respected here."
It COULD imply that but it does not HAVE TO imply that.
Whatever else TB may have done to offend assorted followers of the team, he has been a bargain. Look around the league & see how other LTs are playing and what they are getting paid.
Buy, hey, Miles Bryant's had a good couple of weeks & somebody needs to be hated on ...

Penix is interesting. I always forget to include him on my list. I've only seen a little of him but my 1st impression was: a bigger Tua.
I'm still undecided whether that's a good or bad thing. Good Tua looks very good. Bad Tua looks very bad (and fragile).
Bo Nix is another one. He's got some surprising running chops. Is he a good enough thrower?

Let me be very clear that I’m a strictly Drake Maye guy.
