On a different note: How are we feeling about JC Jackson for 2024? Do we want him back? If so, how much of a pay cut should he take (he has 3 non-guaranteed years left, each at roughly 12M + 2M roster bonus)? His stock had fallen pretty low in SD. No thank you. When we traded for JC, I thought it was a good idea. It cost us very little to see if he could get back to ok. But (1) I was not aware that he was such a clubhouse issue (2) he has not played well for the Pats. Maybe he is still not healthy. Who knows. It could have worked out. It didn't. Lets move on. www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38825893/why-chargers-traded-jc-jackson-one-season-825m-deal

If he’s back for $4m or less I’m good with it. $4-7m I’m accepting of it but not siked.

www.pff.com/draft/big-board?season=2024Now maybe your board is different, but that top 10 is full of players at positions of need. Yeah I'm not wanting to take a DE or DT, but we can use an upgrade there if you want best defense in the game type crap. #4 and #5, best LT and best receiving TE in years. Even if we fall out of top 3, there's multiple ways forward. Trade down get a very good player, then trade back up for the QB you want. I agree. Trading down from 2 to say 8 should get you a 2025 1st, 2024 2nd, and maybe a 2025 2nd. There are at least 10 players who I would be happy with (Williams, Maye, Daniels, Nix, Harrison, Nabers, Bowers, Alt, Fashanu, Latham) At 8 you will have the choice of no less than three of these guys. Plus you get the additional picks. Unless you have a very strong preference for one player, trading down seems like the way to go. For reference: QBs taken in the top 10 picks 2010 Bradford 2011 Newton, Locker, Gabbert 2012 Luck, Griffin, Tannehill 2013 2014 Bortles 2015 Winston, Marriotta 2016 Goff, Wentz 2017 Trubisky, Mahomes 2018 Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Rosen 2019 Murray, Jones 2020 Burrow, Tagovailoa, Herbert 2021 Lawrence, Wilson, Lance 2022 2023 Young, Stroud, Richardson

I'm personally worried about getting older QBs. We're ready to give up on Mac Jones and he's 25. Bo Nix and Pennix are 23. So they'll be entering the league at roughly the same age everyone wants to give up on Mac. I'm just getting Maye or Williams if either are available. It could be a disaster, but that's the game.

I was going to, but then didn't feel like getting yelled at about the source again lol On another topic, conspiracy theory on my part. There were murmurs that some Patriots players felt like they should have tried Malik when both Mac and Zappe looked terrible. I'm wondering if putting him on waivers was a way for Bill to shut the door on that?

I don't believe there are better coaches out there. However, there are a lot of better GM's. That's his downfall. If he would agree to a new GM and just concentrate, he might be able to stay. But, according to Curran, that's not happening. So, does Kraft already have someone in mind? That would be an end of an era, with Brady jettisoned, now BB. Who would have thought it would come down to that? It reminds me of the Sox letting Tito go. He has been and still is a great manager. Perhaps HOF worthy. Makes you wonder if the fault lays in management.

So say 4 million salary, 2 million in game bonuses, then throw him some incentives like all-pro and game mvp in playoffs. That's almost nothing in today's NFL, about what we paid two RT that suck to sit on the bench. I also think he's been better than his numbers, like he gets dinged for that Hill TD, that was a double team with hi and low that our rookie S messed up horribly.

I don't believe it, those guys are also talking about if Bill wins a bunch of games he can save his job. If you believe those guys, you believe meaningless wins are more important to Kraft than getting a top pick. I've never thought our owner was stupid, that report paints our owner as stupid! Zappe just showed you, down a ton of weapons that this teams huge issue was Mac Jones, a player our owner loves. Just my opinion, but Kraft likely played a role in Jones staying the starter last year believe the Media it was Bills OC that was the problem and why he demanded our new OC. Stay the course, this season can end up being magical, like Spurs losing Robinson, sucking bad and getting Duncan type crap.

No worries with me about older QBs, especially if it means they have much more experience in multiple offensive systems. Mac Jones biggest issue coming out was not even remotely close to 3 years starting. Williams has that, Maye only has two years. I take Williams no matter what and I'm likely not passing on Maye, that was an exercise in what if we win 2 games and don't get a top 3 pick. What do you do then type crap. You can trade down, still get a player at position of need, then have extra ammo to trade up for another QB if there's one you like. I know you disagree, but worst thing for me would be by passing elite safe talent to go after QBs 3-5 and over drafting them.

If Williams or Maye are there, grab no question for me. After that, I prefer a QB, but if MHJ is there, just grab him and then hope you can trade back in to get whatever QB is still available. There's a lot of depth in the 1st round so if you're not crazy about any of them then it's important to just get the best talent and trade back in to land on any of the available guys. But if the option of the top 2 QBs in a deep draft are there, go get them.

I also think he's played pretty good since being back. A lot better than a street FA. Wade seems to have improved this year too -- I'd like to see more of him down the stretch. Gonna be a crowded DB room in 2024.

It then ended up being his worst season owning the team. I don’t see Bill surviving, especially in a scenario if he’s not going to give control over the roster to a GM They haven’t scored in 3 of the 4 halves quarterbacked by Zappe so let’s not act like Mac was the only problem with the team. He’s certainly bad but this isn’t close to a playoff team even if Zappe plays all year. We almost blew a big league to Trubisky ffs lol

Trubisky is a legitimate NFL player with a winning record as a starting QB & a passer rating his first 4 years not that dissimilar to TB12's 1st four years.
He also put up 31 points against Tommy Brady & the Patriots D back in 2018, passing for 330 & running for another 80.
Is there no place safe from the talk radio talking points?

Didn’t realize “Mitch Trubisky isn’t good” would be considered a radio talking point hot take. Begs the question why the Bears moved on from him so soon after giving up so much for him and why nobody has given him the reigns since (you know the answer to that and you’re being incredibly disingenuous right now). Imagine thinking a single game in 2018 is relevant to who he is as a player 2 organizations and 5 years later while he’s getting booed off the field by his own fans for being awful lmao He’s a legitimate nfl player in that he’s a fine backup qb. You shouldn’t come close to blowing a 3 score lead in a half of football against him if you’re a team worth a damn. You got roethlisberger saying the Steelers tradition is dead right after the game the Trubador sucked in and you want to sit here and argue he’s good lmao…have right at it. Weird hill to die on, I’m not gonna waste anymore time on it

Steelers fans were booing Tribusky all game. He's not good, as already mentioned. Plenty of bad QBs can have a great game. Heck, some even have a pretty good year. At the end of the day Tribusky is not a good QB. I think his biggest problem is his inability to change his read. It feels like the game is too fast for him. There were a number of times during the game where he had open guys, but he just went with his pre-determined target. This play I think is symbolic of his career (I know everyone pulls a boner, but this just seems to fit the player) sportshub.cbsistatic.com/i/r/2018/09/11/ccfee88e-08c8-46da-bd05-7614a06897f3/thumbnail/1200x675/ed8bfc33ab997456483e8b259826332a/screen-shot-2018-09-11-at-2-58-39-pm.png[/img] That play ended in a loss of 5 yards. The video doesn't make him look any better either. Edit: I can't get images to work.

No, I’m saying Kraft seems to have made the decision already and whatever happens from here on out (win or loss) is irrelevant. Not that difficult of a position to ascertain. And lol zappe played 1 good half of football and what happened in the next half? Yet another shutout half, making it 3 of 4. Yeah man it’s really aged super poorly. He’s great lmao. Although you thought he was good when he didn’t get into the red zone the game prior against one of the worst pass defenses in the sport so I guess we must have different standards for qb performance Totally silliness in this thread. Now both Trubisky and Zappe are good nfl QB’s apparently and we were watching the pinnacle of offensive football on Thursday night. 55% completion with 3 td and 3 picks, QBR of 27.2…..what a monster lmao

That article says Kraft is upset that a 2-7 team lost and decides to fire/whatever our long time coach. So you believe Kraft wanted to get meaningless wins over a top draft pick? If that's actually what Kraft did, wow he's an idiot! That article and quotes clearly paint Kraft wanting horrible wins because it's on national TV. If true Kraft should step down and let his son take over. The owner at that point should have been 100% tank! Instead it seems he was 100% win, after losing top players at multiple positions for the year. I've been crystal clear that I view Zappe as a good backup QB, your response is he sucks. My take on how to improve offense is downfield passing, you laugh saying it will be a disaster. Results? Best half in 5 years since Brady. So you truly believe the only way to measure a QB is points? Let me guess you think ERA tells you everything about a pitcher? Difference from first half to 2nd half? The play calling, they stopped calling downfield passing plays. Same crap from last year, Zappe sucks and Mac Jones is better lol.

Weird hill to die on, I’m not gonna waste anymore time on it The talk radio talking point is, roughly and adjustable for sport & argument: Well, so you beat THEY/THEM but let me say THEY/THEM are not any good so beating THEY/THEM is like not winning at all. Every team plays THEY/THEM and in this particular case, against this particular player, they've lost (31 times) more than they've won (25 times). So "almost lost to Trubisky ffs" would not be some crime, to a reasonable person. He's been good enough to start 56 games in the National Football League which likely makes him better at playing football than any of his critics on this board are at anything they've ever attempted to do in life. Btw, I wouldn't want him as my QB. But to refer to him as some sort of joke seems ... offensive to a fan of sports. I can't do what he does. This time it was MVP Mitch, but the same "argument" gets repeated ad nauseum with other teams/players substituted. It's lazy. It's also inaccurate. Fans booed him means he can't play? lol Fans booed Ted Freakin' Williams, the greatest hitter who ever lived. Hey, Texans lost to Zach Wilson (doesn't Zach stink, like the absolute worst?) this week ffs -- how do we score that one? Zach lit them up. And it was a BIG game. Should they fire the HC? And Tua & the Dolphins lost to a rookie QB who has a 37 QBR -- does that make them FRAUDS?

Blowing a 3 score lead to Mitch Trubisky would in fact be awful. He was getting booed off the field by his own fans the entire game. Nobody wants him as their starting QB. This is not a controversial statement, die on the hill if you must And now I can’t call a blatantly bad QB bad because they’re better than me at football, great point lmao…..he’s not a “joke”, he’s merely a bad nfl QB that you shouldn’t come close to blowing big leads against. Though it does become pretty easy to blow a big lead when you go a half without scoring…
