They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Triston v Gunnar in ROYal smackdown

I know Gumball is beating Casas in WAR, and folks say that seals Casas’s ROY doom. But in the NL, Mookie leads in WAR, OPS, etc… and I think Acuna Jr will still win MVP. So I’m not giving up on Casas. A strong end… who knows?

The Orioles are:
7th in the AL in positional WAR 5th in the AL in pitching WAR
It's all smoke and mirrors with this team, I'm telling you.

So I’m not giving up on Casas. A strong end… who knows? The NL MVP odds have flipped to Acuna only because of Betts foot injury. Betts was the favorite before that. And even then the WAR difference is ~15% without even accounting for what Acuna will make up for while Betts is injured. Acuna also has the narrative as the only 30/60 player ever (would look a lot better as 40/70 and he still has a shot!). Gunnar has more than double the WAR of Casas so the gap there is much wider. Maybe a really strong finish with a 1+ WAR September and ending with 30+ home runs does it? A hot finish and a strong counting number for home runs would likely sway some that are more “narrative voters”.

I'm just a guy on a message board standing before saying again: Please start Ceddanne in CF.
Like someone needs to put a speaker in kid's locker in the clubhouse blaring Dire Straits or something.

So I’m not giving up on Casas. A strong end… who knows? Do BWAA writers vote on this? If so, the narrative will be "Henderson, Jung and Raley are on teams fighting for position in the playoffs and playing for something every day. Casas isn't, and while he's showing himself to be great at the plate, has a hard time even fielding his position." Blah, blah, blah... Although with the East Coast bias, they'll probably forget Jung exists (desperately holding back from "Jungian unconscious bias" joke here).

2/3 of the earth is covered by water. Ceddanne has the rest!🤟 If he has a Garry Maddox career, (also known as the secretary of defense), that would be a great outcome.

Greg Luzinski standing in left field with his back to center because Maddox was taking everything between them was the oddest thing I have seen in outfield positioning. Here Greg you just worry about from you to the foul line Garry will handle everything else.

Lineup in - no Rafaela or Abreu. Valdez in, Verdugo back.

Lineup in - no Rafaela or Abreu. Valdez in, Verdugo back. The Yankees made a commitment to playing their kids and instantly starting playing better. I can’t say with any confidence that the Sox would see the same results playing their kids, but they really need to change their focus. Guys like Verdugo and Duvall both figure to be gone next year. They should be seeing if they have worthy replacements already in-house.

Duvall is probably 50/50 at best to be back but Verdugo is still under contract one more year, I don't see how he figures to be gone. I'd put it as a pretty high chance that he's back in RF next season. That being said, I would certainly like to see Rafaela get more PT than he's been getting.

Its truly absurd that at this point in the season Duvall is still being treated as an everyday player. He's slumping at the plate, is a negative defender in CF and RF, and is a 35 yr old FA to be. If the goal is winning right now (even though its really shouldn't be), I'd argue that Rafaella contributes more than Duvall between his elite d in CF and the offence he's providing. So there is really no justification for Duvall playing right now. If anything he should be playing LF with Yoshida taking over DH and Turner being shut down. He can't even run the bases right now because of his foot/heal injury and is going to opt out at the end of the season.

Beautiful description of the team leader in wRC+ who also has literally a 1.200 OPS in his last 67 PAs. No notes, just excellent work here.

Duvall has literally been the best player on the team this year on a rate basis. Outside of a slow month coming back from a broken wrist he’s alternated between serviceable and completely mashing. They still want to win games, no matter how futile it may be, so he’s going to play as much as possible.
