Marlins clinch.
I’m old enough to remember people thinking it was crazy they were ranked ahead of the Sox before the season.

Pablo’s bat is solid, defensively pretty mediocre. Problem is the middle infield market is super weak

Llovera has taken the place of Brasier as the pitcher I want shot into the sun but will never go away.

A team that does everything right beating a team that did very little right this year. Really pathetic.

Pablo’s bat is solid, defensively pretty mediocre. Problem is the middle infield market is super weak I know Joey wendle isn't anything great but I think he might be a decent MI option in FA for a year. Decent fielder and LHH which even with the LHH slant in the lineup they could use a MI.

This inning is what I want from the Sox next year. They have guys who can run… far more aggressive baserunning. I’d like to see at least 30 steals from Duran and from Story.

I know we still have one more game to endure - but I already have a sick feeling that we will have to "put up with" players on the team next year, rather than be excited about. Verdugo is in that category for sure. Urias? Reyes? I do think Story will be much better with the bat. Devers too.

Crawford puts up 6 inning of 1 hit ball. And yet we don’t even come close to winning. Just end it

That is the hardest hit ball I remember from Yoshida in months.

Duvall is the tying run. I wouldn’t say they are not close to winning

One more loss and we pass whoever wins the Cleveland/Detroit game tomorrow

That is a perfect 2023 Red Sox game. Big power hitter Duvall with 2 runners on grounds to the pitcher.
Truth is stranger than fiction for this team, this year.
Now I am pissed - most they can win is 78. Missed my win (or loss!) estimate of 79.
5-18 since Sept 5 - quite the epic cratering, I would say.

Btw. This kind of at bat is far more typical of Duvall than the homer. That’s why I’m ambivalent about resigning him. If he is hitting in the top six of your lineup, your lineup isn’t in great shape.

Ceddanne now at 0.143/0.196/0.190 since the Yankees series. That’s why he will start 2024 in AAA.

Not interested in team batting average - not interested in runs scored. As this game showed, team can get lots of hits - but if they don't knock in runs, so what? As for runs - same thing. They don't score when they need to - or to overcome the occasional bad pitching - or they score when it doesn't matter. It was quite a mirage this year. Stats looked good - results did not.

I do think Story will be much better with the bat. Devers too. I hope your right 67 but have my doubts. I mean Story almost has to be better but likely we will continue to lament his contract. Raffy OTOH is the guy who always leaves you wanting more and not in a good way, and I am big Raffy fan, but I feel like he is what he is at this point. All star level at times but all too often not.

Agreed. "do think" probably should have been "hope". It was such a weird year for Devers - he built up stats, but his at bats were not particularly comfortable to watch. He seems to have trouble getting himself out of bad habits/ruts.

Though you post the stats in every single game, they have not in fact been a poor RISP team (until the last couple of weeks). And they did not underperform their run differential (until the last couple of weeks). They had all sorts of exciting comebacks earlier in the season - it was like a whole thing with them.
