Congratulations to the Texas Rangers for their 1st World Championship on franchise history. The Red Sox couldnt find room in the budget to sign a quality pitcher like Nate Eovaldi, but the rangers did. So he goes out, pulls a Houdini, and is the winning pitcher in their clincher, being the post season ace that Texas needed him to be. Sox offered a larger contract than he got, earlier in the offseason, he rejected, they signed other players, he came begging for the deal, Sox said no, signed a smaller deal with Texas.
Stop lying to fit your narrative.
Thank you. This is nothing more than 🐂 poop from the sports talk crowd who are not arguing in good faith

Thank you. This is nothing more than 🐂 poop from the sports talk crowd who are not arguing in good faith I prefer my narrative that if Chaim hadn’t botched the ’22 deadline, they would’ve reset their CBT status in ‘22, would not have been compelled to reset it in 2023 and they could’ve spent more to bring Nate back. Of course one option to get under the bar at the ‘22 deadline was to move Nate although he was recovering from injury at the time, so JDM was there more obvious move. My other narrative is that I’m really happy for him winning another ring in his home state. Couldn’t have happened to a sweller fellow. And he’ll share rotation duties next year with Scherzer and deGrom. God bless him.

Nate didn’t have his best and he still battled through 6 shutout in a WS clincher. Dude is nails in the playoffs

I prefer my narrative that Bloom screwed up by not going over the LTT by more in 2022, by adding Pham and Tyler Anderson for that season, which would have put them in wild card position at the deadline, which would have led them to add even more at the deadline, which would have led them to sneaking in to the playoffs, which would have led to such good vibes that Eovaldi would have taken the contract offer this year, which would have led to the Red Sox once again being in better shape at the trade deadline in 2023, which would have led to them making the playoffs for a third year in a row.
I don't know about all that buttefly-flaps-its-wings stuff, but I really do think not going over by more in 2022 was Bloom's most inexplicable screwup. And everything might have played out a lot differently, for him and us, if not for that.

Stop lying to fit your narrative. Why am I lying? The facts of what happened and the surrounding stuff around it are pretty clear. The Sox had to stay under the limit because they failed to get under the limit in 2022. Had they not messed that up, there would have been money to sign Jansen, Martin, and Yoshida, and still bring back Eovaldi once he saw that the Sox had the best offer, unless of course Corey Kluber was some hot commodity they needed to sign. It was obvious they werent going over the limit in 23 so when Eovaldi's camp circled back the sox withdrew their offer. That's a fact. Money already spent. No room left in the budget for any rotation upgrades beyond a Kluber addition. Signing Eovaldi wouldnt have made a dent in the Sox deficit in 23, but it would mean 1 less quality pitcher to have to obtain this offseason. Let's see how much money and how many years or what talent the Sox need to trade to get a second frontline starting pitcher this offseason. They clearly need two front line starting pitchers. One wont be enough. At least for Eovaldi, he didnt go back to the team he wanted to go back to, but he will get another ring and an amazing memory. Good for him. I'm a fan of Eovaldi and will always appreciate that Game 4 WS relief appearance that saved the pen and lead to the Sox last championship. That and beating the Yankees.

They do make mistakes sometimes Reality pill for you....Red Sox ownership came to the conclusion that mistakes were made. That's why Craig Breslow is being introduced at a press conference tomorrow. So I guess more than just the "WEEI crowd" must have critiqued and disliked some moves that were made/not made.

If it's palatable and he does a good job, then all is forgiven.

Kind of cool for a franchise to win their first WS title. Congrats to them. I don't follow baseball much outside of the Sox games and such, but they had a pretty good team all year and didn't have an easy run through the playoffs, having to play other very good teams (especially from the AL East), and they ran the gamut. Pretty impressive, i would say, and worthy of praise. Now, we turn our attention back to the Sox and the heretofore (and yet to be determined if he actually knows anything about POBO work. because he has no experience doing such) leadership of Craig Breslow, a relief pitcher. Let the franchise return to glory commence !!!!

Mistakes were made, one of them wasn’t to wait around on the off-season until Nate was done shopping around. Got people to sign and things to do! I blame Nate’s agent more than anything. Happy Nate got a ring though. Unhappy Aroldis got one.

So, not only did we miss out on Eovaldi, but his failure to sign resulted in the Sox getting Yoshida instead? Ouch and double-ouch.

Now the climactic moment every fan looks forward to: speeches from a couple of old rich white guys no one's heard of! Jemele Hill? Is that you?

I was hoping the Snakes would come back and make it a series but the early end means that William Hill ought to have 2024 pennant odds up in time for my trip to Reno this weekend. Hoping for +3000 or more on the Bres-Sox!

Now, let's get on with the off-season!

Maybe it's just me, but I get letting the guy that just dropped $200m+ on payroll alone have the first speech.

Funny the Dodgers essentially "traded" Mr. October for Mr. No Show under pressure.

Was watching the first Series game with friends and Seager came up. I suppose the Dodgers had expectations for his replacement and were trying to parse the budget cap. But they certainly could have used his services this year. I was surprised they let him go. The bat is a great one.

Marcelo Mayer was compared to Corey Seager. If he turns out to be anything like that the Sox will have themselves one helluva player.

They basically spent that money on Freeman and that's certainly worked out okay for them.

As long as the checks still cash he can wax philosophical till the early hours of the morning, and I'll sit there drinking the beer and champagne he has also provided free of charge.
