Is the implication that there is a conspiracy among journalists to defend every move the patriots make? No, I might have wordred that wrong. I'm just asking did you see that from multiple people over all of training camp, or the one recent source who did it because fans were going crazy on X over Thornton starting? I've only seen it once recently, by the same guy breaking down a few routes to try and show us how good Thornton is. Don’t recall where, just recall seeing positive quotes about his blocking. He does look a lot stronger. Hopefully that helps him get off the line

Marte Mapu is going to go down as the biggest miss by fans. So many people thought he was a steal and a stud and now it seems he’s never going to do anything. Hasn't he been injured since first practice of training camp? Yes, 2 years now of nothing

Bert Breer dropped a little gossip on the Judon situation. Basically said the that the front office and staff were kind of sick of him. His social media cheerleader persona was a lot different than the behind the scenes one. Said was a similar thing in Baltimore with him as well. Made a point of saying it didn’t mean he was a bad guy or anything like that just sounded like he was a lot. Add: i had only watched the segment when posting the above. Here’s a better version: patriotswire.usatoday.com/2024/08/23/latest-report-matt-judon-exit-patriots-paints-ugly-picture/So there it is, confirmation that Judon was telling the truth. I can't really believe social media cheerleading is why they wanted too move on. I thought Mayo said things were different now that Bill was gone? That's a rather bad look consider how many elite players do the exact same thing on social media. Maybe some day Boston teams can move on from a great player and just thank him for what he did, instead of the typical hit jobs that almost always come out. Not sure how you got that from this. The problem wasn’t the social media cheerleading; the problem was his public persona was not the same as his actual persona in the building. He came across as a positive attitude but supposedly wasn’t. The team has been very publicly complimentary of him. Also, if you watch the Breer interview, he didn’t just come out and say that, Felger was asking him for gossip, he gave something else and Felger gave him crap for that being all he had and he kind of reluctantly shared this. Wasn’t a report that was fed by the team to bad mouth a player.

Given the crazy Boston Media, when only one guy gets inside information where do you think it came from? This is how it's always worked in Boston and it's crazy.

I honestly don’t know what you’re trying to say here. The social media personality is what fans saw and all he said is that happy positive person isn’t the same guy that was behind the scenes for coaches and the front office. Is it that hard to believe that may be accurate considering how things played out? Why else would they want to move on from their best player? Can’t simply say money when they didn’t try and we know they’ve been willing to pay even over pay some guys.

What’s this show? There was training camp excitement about him last year? No kidding…. Maybe he will end up contributing some day.. looks like MacMillan might - 5 years later

He played in all 17 games last year, 18% of defensive snaps and 47% of special teams snaps. The minute they resigned Dugger it limited his future opportunities, which given Bill wasn't likely the plan.

Maybe some people feel that way, but the one example they give is horrible and not a good look for what is a new Patriots staff. What he did on Social Media is what lots of great players do. Wanting to get paid is what lots of great players want. At the same time he's coaching Ximes on sideline of preseason games. Do you think a team flush with money given all recent events, would come out and say we just don't want to pay our best player because he's 32 years old? Why did they need to say anything? You want to move on, fine. I think it's a horrible decision, but whatever. Once again we have to bash the player on his way out the door and the example is Judon trying to recruit players to play for the Patriots on Social Media. It's a horrible look for a team struggling to get elite players to take our money!

I’m not even a Breer fan, but the way this was communicated just seems like something he pieced together over the years. It’s a one off statement, not a coordinated media campaign. I’m not even saying it’s true, but to dismiss it for no reason is a choice you can make. It’s certainly interesting that he played really well for 2 teams and neither made an attempt to extend or resign him.

What I "expected from him" as a mid 3rd-round draft pick was about a one in three chance he'd be a valuable contributor for a couple or a few years. He did okay as a rookie so I'm still hopeful.

The Ravens franchised him, then didn't want to pay him big money after a 6 sack season. That's interesting to you? They didn't want him so much they paid him franchise money? Lol, that story has been redone by everyone in Boston by now. You know how it works, we've seen this for decades.

I'm confused by this take, he actually played a decent amount given the veteran players in front of him. Obviously the plan was likely he was Dugger replacement or insurance. Not what some people thought, which was he was going to play LB.

Aren't you basically switching up fans for a few certain draft Analysists? I'm a draft nut, spend so many hours and money studying the draft and I didn't even know who he was. Then you hear that one certain analyst going crazy and it gets you excited. But his perfect role is literally what Dugger plays.

Then you’re not one of the ones who was fanboying and acting like he was a major steal in the draft before he even played a game. I suppose not. But I don't consider enthusiastic optimism a bad, or even insufferable, thing. In fact, I generally find it preferable to the all-to-common around these parts other end of the spectrum negativity -- i.e., the jaundiced naysayers. Admittedly, I didn't always think this way: For many years I played in a backgammon chouette. I crushed that game, night in and night out, for years. We had several bad players amongst our group. But I would get so MAD when one of those bad players won a game off me (sometimes the backgammon gods are devious) until one day a fellow named Ira pulled me aside and asked why I was so unhappy. He asked if I thought any regular had a better ROI than me & I said, No. He said, So if we look at this chouette as one long continuous game, instead of a collection of nights added together, you are winning, and handily? Yes, of course. Then why not look at it that way and be happy all the time that you found yourself this soft chouette (and care not that of course sometime the dice roll bad)? I shifted my thinking that very night. The chouette was soft, my game was strong, only a moron would not be happy to be in such company. By extension, my sports teams are generally good (or better) WHEN COMPARED AGAINST THEIR COMPETITORS, the only realistic comparison. Not against what Fellah & Marroni says or some guy on WEEI. My favorite teams win often & hang banners, way more than their opposition. So why should I be miserable and negative and let every little thing bother me? No. I'll play the long game. I'll enjoy even the losses, knowing better times were had and likely will come along again.

Organization sort of needs a good game from Jacoby and a rough one from Drake Maye. Unfortunately, that’s the position you put yourself in when you haven’t named a starter but have given one guy all the reps in camp.
If Drake Maye balls out tonight, things will be interesting over the next couple weeks across New England.
All this could have been avoided by simply saying “we are going into the year with Jacoby as the starter.”

Count me in as one who really didn't like the Marte Mapu pick. Post draft I had the Pats best pick as Gonzalez with honorable mention Boutte. I had Jake Andrews as their worst pick with honorable mention going to Mapu. My issue with the Mapu pick was not that we drafted him, but where we drafted him. We were already be set at SS/LB. In fact, those were probably our strongest positions. Yes it was possible that Dugger and/or Peppers could leave at the end of the year, but maybe not. It just didn't seem like a position of need at the time of the draft, more like a luxury. In contrast we had some really big needs on offense and there were still good offense prospects left on the board at pick 76 when the Pats took Mapu. Maybe Mapu was a terrific prospect that, even though they didn't need him right away, they just couldn't pass up? But what is the evidence of that? 2021 he mostly played SS for Sacramento State. PFF has his Run Defense 85.9, Pass Rush 67.5, Coverage 77.2 which looks pretty good until you look at the teams he played against. It was a really crappy schedule. The BEST teams he played against were Colorado State, Northern Iowa, and Montana. Those were the best. I would not be surprised if he didn't match up against a single player who was drafted in 2023. He really should have been dominating against that level of competition and he did not do that. Maybe he had terrific athletic traits and the Pats drafted him as a developmental prospect? It is hard to tell since he tore his pectoral and did not test at all. The estimates that I could find have his 40 between 4.59 and 4.69. What did the draft experts think? Daniel Jeremiah ranked him #73 but that was a major outlier. Most experts (who ranked him) had him between 100 and 175 (see link). That does not scream must get prospect. Especially not considering the Pats were already in good shape at his position but had major needs on the offensive side of the ball. www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2F2023-consensus-big-board-final-v0-70n47l0jv8wa1.png%3Fwidth%3D1851%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D1870b815a08cda97c2b5a0c6eac9356f4f101a3c

Great Job Mayo, if it's a legit competition going into this game like you say, Maye just easily won even without Andrews at C.
BTW the OL still looks horrible.

Mayo looks like an idiot. The only player he hasn’t been a buddy buddy players coach with is the one that matters, Drake Maye.
