Can't walk guys and can't miss your spots. Definite learning experience. Didn't have a problem with him going back to AAA after this start regardless, and I'm sure it will happen now anyways. No rush to hand him a full time SP role in Boston, even if Doubront isn't as good as he could be

But we should stick Felix in the BP right?

This should send a great message to Doubront. ("Who needs to work more, this guy blows.")
Genius.

This should send a great message to Doubront. ("Who needs to work more, this guy blows.") Genius. If there was a "message" part to this move, it wasn't "Allen Webster is coming for your slot". It was "we have other options and aren't afraid to go to them over you" "The Sox are ahead 1-0 at the end of the first inning"

Meanwhile this is no doubt doing wonders for Websters' confidence.
0-0 again. May needthat long guy tonight. Soon.

So Rookie players struggle? Posters need to chill on WMB. Also he isn't going to be a walk guy, he ain't youk, then again that isn't the only approach to be a MLB player. No, it's not the only way to be a MLB player. But if you don't walk AND you don't make a lot of contact, yeah, you pretty much can't be an MLB player. So which one of those things has WMB shown an ability to do?

They need to get Webster out now before it's a 4 run deficit again.

Could someone without laughing at me or judging me tell me the difference of a curveball and a slider? I was under the assumption that a slider moved more horizontal and a curve was more vertical, but websters slider looks like a curve, untill you see it's mid 80's. Or am I just crazy?

Meanwhile this is no doubt doing wonders for Websters' confidence. 0-0 again. May needthat long guy tonight. Soon. If only they had a long guy in the pen...Two thoughts re: Doubront. 1) The Sox may have thought they would need a long man with either of Doubront or Webster starting, and were more comfortable moving Doubront to the pen for a game/thought it was less likely to mess with Doubront's routine than Webster. 2) It's established that Doubront was out of shape and may have a tired arm already, they may have been looking for an excuse to skip him for a turn (not that it looks like he'll get much rest the way this game is going.)

I could be wrong but it seems like the two pitches seem to be referred to (in the case of many pitchers) as simply a "breaking ball", not quite a traditional curve nor a slider, sort of in between with some vertical break and horizontal break. Some pitchers have old fashioned 12-6 curves ( Darvish) and some have legit sliders ( Matt Harvey)

Really feel bad for Webster, that was rough.
Also worried about how little time Doubront had to warm up. Hope he doesn't get hurt.

Pitch nomenclature is notoriously inconsistant. Fastball, breaking ball, offspeed. Outside of those things can get pretty vague.

This is really disgusting It was tough enough to watch them not hit then fall apart last night but this is NOT a good team they are playing.

Hey guys, remember when we got excited about the Red Sox hot start? That was cool. Yeah, how silly of us to get excited about that ~30 game sample? The past 10 are obviously more indicative of the teams true talent level!

Yeah, how silly of us to get excited about that ~30 game sample? The past 10 are obviously more indicative of the teams true talent level! Point is, I don't think this team can keep pitching the way it has been and that's being exposed tonight.

Although, despite my boundless pessimism, the Red Sox are absolutely crushing Hernandez right now. Four batters this inning and four very well hit balls, two of them catchable by Hicks unfortunately.
