On thing that occurred to me while watching the game, Cleveland's left handed hitters all try to poke the ball to the opposite field when they have 2 strikes and there's a right hander on the mound. Pretty much every damn time..

Rafaela will hit better at some point. I think he might manage .260 at some point. The OBP will still be sub .300. There will be some pop along the way. It'll probably take awhile to get there as long as he continues to hack away with that long swing of his.
I don't think the discipline will be there but at some point theyll shorten his stroke and he'll hit.
I still think he winds up in CF at some point as I suspect O'Neill isnt long for Boston unfortunately and I do think at some point eventually the Sox will wind up deciding to trade either Duran or Abreu when Anthony is ready.

Defensive metrics hate Devers, TON in RF, and Rafaela at SS so far

When you’re on the same list as Jake Fraley, you know you’re playing well At some point, someone will need to start the ROY extra draft pick thread. Somehow, winning that pick from the Orioles reminds me of trying to beat them when they had four 20 game winners on the mound and gold gloves on the infield.

Watching the Sox last night and imagining some of the injured players back in the lineup and on the mound.... this could be an amazing team. Despite all the injuries and low BAs for replacement players, they exude hope. And grit.

Considering the White Sox are 3 and 21 (Yikes..) and Paul DeJong is off to a solid start, 100 wRC+ albeit with a 41.4 K% so far and he is at 2 OAA at SS so far I'd be on the phone daily with them trying to pry DeJong away until they told Breslow to cut it out.
He's an FA after the year and would slot in rather well to this team and allow Rafaela to go back to playing CF full time. It just makes too much sense, I'd rather they go out and get a SS now than to wait until the deadline even though there may be a better option or two available then. Even if there is DeJong would fit well as a bench IF anyway. They clearly have no use for any impending FAs, their season is clearly over. Save them a couple million on their payroll and toss them some lotto ticket, who says no?

I was pretty strongly against Rafaela at SS, not so much from concerns about his ability there, but because he has been struggling so much at the plate. But I've changed my mind. Unless an outfielder gets hurt (strong probability), this team is going to be a lot better IMO being able to play all of Duran, Yoshida, Abreu, O'Neill on a daily basis. I would take any and all of those guys offensively over DeJong every day of the week. Now if someone gets hurt (OF, Devers) or especially if Rafaela gets hurt then sure, I'd make the move. Rafaela at SS or 3B makes this team much better offensively.

Yeah I originally wanted to keep Rafaela in center, but they have too many outfielders that need to play every day as is. I think right now he has to play short.
I do still like the idea of acquiring DeJong or Lopez from the White Sox as a replacement for Reyes on the bench, which would give you good defensive options late in the game. And if Rafaela doesn’t pick it up at all offensively you can consider sending him down for a little.

Even if DeJong is used as a back MI instead of Hamilton I think it'd be worth trying to get him. It feels like they could and should be looking to upgrade on their backup SS options. One injury to any of the OF or Rafaela and they're back to Hamilton or someone like that getting the bulk of SS reps. He shouldn't cost much and would still give them some insurance and flexibility.

Save them a couple million on their payroll and toss them some lotto ticket, who says no? Definitely fine with the Sox acquiring another shortstop option, although I imagine they would envision it as more of a backup/contingency role for DeJong. They want O'Neill/Duran/Abreu out there every day, and Ceddanne just got paid and can handle short. Still it would be nice to be able to move Ceddanne to CF as needed, and as of now that's hard to do without a capable backup SS. Bonus - could have him AND Rafaela playing middle infield, which wouldn't be too shabby.

So Cora gets all pissy about Yoshida questions and then proceeds to sit him again. The guy still has legs, maybe play him in LF for a game. The world won't burn to ashes if he plays LF.

Yeah this is really weird at this point. Devers being at DH I at least get if his knee is still bothering him, but not sure why you couldn't just start Yoshida in left and have Refsnyder come in defensively later...

Cora: "I don't get why everyone is being weird about Yoshida not playing, he's going to play tomorrow" *Says this 3 days in a row*

Wasn't Cora one of the people at the end of last year talking about how much Yoshida had improved defensively during the 2nd half?
And now he's completely unplayable?
I mean I had assumed Cora was just talking him up as far as managing his players and all that, but I assumed there was a tiny kernel of truth in it? I guess that's my bad. Never believe the good things people in an org say about their players. Lesson #158934.

Pablo Reyes has a .422 OPS. Bobby Dalbec has a .206 OPS and they’re both playing today rather than having Yoshida in. Absolutely inexcusable

There just has to be some kind of leg injury or something. Yoshida's a bad defender in left but not so bad that it makes sense to sit him for Refsnyder against a righty today when he's just had four off days in a row.

TON,Wong,Yoshida and Valdez makes a pretty good bench at least.
It is time for honesty about Yoshida. This has become ridiculous and fans deserve to know what is up.

This would make sense but at the same time why not just say hey he's dealing with something? It's not like it's a full contact sport like hockey and you don't want the other team to know what's hurting. Either way it's strange to me.

Seeing how much they hate Yoshida's fielding I guess there wasn't a lot to those offseason Jorge Soler rumors
