5'10" isn't too short for Short to play short

I believe he's the only major leaguer ever out of Sacred Heart.

Out of options so joining the major league team. Career -1.2 fWAR and 58 wRC+.

I dunno about this one. I'd rather just add Sogard to the 40 and call him up if it came down to it.
Kinda seems like we're done making waiver claims, we're just gonna pay to make sure we get everyone we would otherwise claim.

Kinda seems like we're done making waiver claims, we're just gonna pay to make sure we get everyone we would otherwise claim. On paper I'm not even sure I'd prefer Short to Hamilton. Having no options sucks, and he has a career 58 wRC+ in 462 PA with what looks like average-ish defense at 2B/SS/3B. Hamilton doesn't have the arm for 3B and it's not great at SS either, but so long as Bobby's still here backing up 3B isn't too important. I'm not sure how much Hamilton will hit at the MLB level, but I believe in his bat more than I do Short's, and I love the speed. If healthy, Romy seems like he has more upside than Short too, and with remaining options.
They must just see something they like.
Edit: He had 6 pitching appearances for Detroit last year and only allowed 4 ER. Maybe Breslow wants him to join the pitching academy lol

I don’t really get it but I suppose we’ll see. I assume he pretty much has until Gonzalez gets back as a try out. I’m just surprised they couldn’t find anyone even a little bit better.
I prefer Hamilton on the MLB roster but maybe they want him to play every day

MLB Career:
588.2 Innings at SS; 0 DRS & -8 OAA 290.0 Innings at 2B; 5 DRS & 0 OAA 202.0 Innings at 3B; -2 DRS & -1 0AA
Seems to have also played a tiny bit of OF in a pinch.

Don't really get adding this guy but my assumption would be he won't be around very long and is just a very short term band-aid anyway.

I was pretty surprised to see Pablo go the other day, so adding a replacement for him makes sense (at least until Romy returns). I guess they had just given up on Pablo. His glove was bad and the one thing he did on offense (limit Ks) was no longer there this year either.

Took a quick look. Maybe Breslow was familiar with him from 2018 or so if he was with the Cubs then. At least Theo would be familiar with him.
I think it was 2018 or 2019 he had 94 walks in a minor league season. And he has a little bit of pop.
The only thing he can't do is hit, like at all - just a minor thing, lol.
He's probably keeping the backup role middle infield role warm until Romy returns. Maybe they didnt like Hamilton's defense and/or didnt want him sitting on the bench rather than getting regular ABs?

He's been pretty terrible offensively in the majors but has put up 93, 99 and 131 wRC+s in AAA the last three years. Don't have to squint too hard to conclude that he's worth a shot over Reyes and Hamilton, especially if you're primarily concerned about present value. He certainly looks like a better defender than both and projection systems think he's close enough offensively.
| ZiPS | Steamer | THE BAT X | Z. Short | 84 | 83 | 86 | P. Reyes | 92 | 91 | 77 | D. Hamilton | 88 | 85 | 76 |

Never fear, under the guidance of Andrew Bailey he will have a FIP of 2.50 and get 10.5 k/9ip.

At least they are doing something. They are not sticking with Kiki for months after it was apparent he couldn't handle being an everyday shortstop in the bigs. Casis gets hurt and they bring in a replacement. No way they can be responsible for the replacement getting hurt too. Reyes and Hamilton aren't cutting it at short after Story gets hurt, and Rafaela gets a shot. Now this guy gets a shot to be his backup. It may not work, but at least they are trying something to fix obvious problems.
Assume Hamilton will go down when the new guy arrives.

To me, this has been the biggest difference between chaim and breslow. Chaim seemed to be afraid to admit a mistake whereas breslow seems like he wants to add quality depth and find guys that work. He gives them some time to prove themselves and if it isn't working out he moves on.

Can we not make this a previous FO thing. They added a minor league free agent level player here guys, they've always done this sort of thing and did it plenty in the past couple years.

Agreed, and I'm not trying to rehash Chaim, but I feel like the roster churning at the bottom of the 40 man has been done at a much higher rate with Breslow. I was just trying to point that out

Though I'd add CB2 quickly takes away Alex (Doc Rivers) Cora's player crushes when they don't perform on the field - which does the team and the coach a good service (see Pablo, Joly).

I'd slightly push against this broad statement somewhat - as Kiké should have been "removed" by the prior regime for the betterment of the team (the coach and the player). I'll stop there.

Assume Hamilton will go down when the new guy arrives. Fix is a generous way to frame it. I'd say this move is adding more duct tape to the problem.

On the one hand, sure, but on the other hand:
1. Kiké was played at SS way more often than he should have been, which was more egregious than him being on the roster in the first place. 2. Kiké was eventually traded for two relievers, one of whom was flipped to the Cardinals in the Tyler O'Neill trade. Not a bad return for the statistically worst player in the majors at the time he was traded, so I'm certainly not too wistful for alternate timelines.

Duct tape is a really useful tool to fix things. Fixes and marginal upgrades are good and necessary, both using figurative duct tape on your baseball roster and literal duct tape on your vents and whatnot.
