Red Sox Sign 1B Dom Smith to a Major League Deal

Since 4/18, he's traded for 4 players, signed one to major league contract and signed four minor league free agents. He made zero signings and trades before that since start of the season. If you look at are last two GM, who do these type of moves remind you of them? I mean, if you're narrowing the universe of things that one can be to a binary of Chaim Bloom and Dave Dombrowski, a lot of things are going to be "like" one of them that aren't. "Here's a car and a grape. Which of them is this sledgehammer more like?" I'm comparing our last two GMs and moves they made, you are talking about a car, a grape and a sledgehammer. Yeah that makes total sense. One made tons of little moves that cost almost nothing, the other went out and got the best players he could. You made me laugh, so I'll give you credit for that.

Why do you feel the need to be so argumentative about stuff like this? Going to the scrap heap for the last guy on the roster, whether it's trading cash or making waiver claims or giving up a lottery ticket or whatever, is not, like, a weird little Chaim Bloom quirk that Craig Breslow has picked up. It's standard operating procedure for roster building and always has been . And the implication that doing so is the mark of the team's previous, unsuccessful baseball ops regime is just such a weird claim. "Oh, you're trying to fix the back end of the roster? You know who ELSE tried to fix the back end of the roster, don't you?" Come on.

I'm in no mood to relitigate past GM's, the circumstances behind the moves they made at the time they made them are not linear. Considering one of our cornerstone players went down for an extended period @1b, and the cavalry on hand (Dalbec) was riding into battle on a Donkey while the other teams still had at least Stallions, or Geldings, I'm fine with the Cooper and Smith moves, even ecstatic to some degree to not have to watch Bobby take 2 strikes and then swing at a ball 3 ft off the plate.
Maybe my point of view comes from having a severely autistic child, but gee, celebrate the small victories while we have them. Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought this team would be this engaging and entertaining, especially after all of the injuries. Sometimes we create animus only to have something to complain about.

Which Gallagher? Since we're dating ourselves and Gallagher is the Blippi of our times.

Smith & Cooper are a $ 3.5 million commitment.
The question is often, "why don't they go get someone."
Pro-rated, that's a huge amount of money for nothing.
Roster constraints don't allow a team to stockpile AAAA types from one year to the next.

I mean, when you're a big-market(?) team that just had a gaping hole open up with no internal replacements...I guess I disagree. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're arguing here, but I do think they had to go get someone. Smith might well be a dud, but Cooper has a pretty good track record of being decent and has played 12 games, so I'm not ready to concede he'll be this bad. (EDIT: and he rewards my confidence with a double right as I post this đ)

Even as heated as it sometimes gets here, most of us are die hard fans that just want the best for our team. When you open it up nationally you have to endure the trolls, who are just saying whatever to stoke division.

Part of it might be the side of 50 that I'm on, but that was pretty insufferable. Reddit skews young, inexperienced, and loud. That's not a good combination.

When it reads 87 comments, I only see about 20 as I have over 200 mutes (nearly all trolls). Lol
