They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Red Sox day, Celtics night - fun first day back from vacation. Good way to ease back into reality (whatever that is!)

This is crazy, but I have no idea if it's meaningful. In the last series the three rookies had 11 PA with RISP and combined for a .537 wOBA. The veterans had 17 PA and had .134 (.152 adjusted).
PA and wOBA:
Hamilton, David 3 .655 Rafaela, Ceddanne 5 .534 Abreu, Wilyer 3 .423 Wong, Connor 3 .231 Smith, Dominic 3 .231 Duran, Jarren 4 .223 Devers, Rafael 3 .000 Cooper, Garrett 2 .0000 O'Neill, Tyler 1 .000 Gonzalez, Romy 1 .000 Something to keep an eye on ...
In related news, Abeu has passed Colton Cowser and now leads all MLB in rfWAR, 1.7 to 1.6.

Speaking of the rookies, Hamilton is up to 0.4 WAR, which puts him on a 2.9 WAR/600 PA pace. He had a couple of really nice defensive plays at SS yesterday.
Rafaela is up to -0.4 after bottoming out at -0.7. Replacement level, here we come!
Abreu is at 2.3 WAR through the first 252 PAs of his major league career, a 5.5 WAR/600 PA pace (!). The league may yet make adjustments to him as a hitter, but OBP skills + good defense + good baserunning gives him a really solid floor.
Grizzled veteran Jarren Duran just hit 600 PAs since the start of 2023 and he has 4.6 WAR in that span.

Rafaela is up to -0.4 after bottoming out at -0.7. Replacement level, here we come! Hamilton has legit been playing well on both sides of the ball this month, and it’s a situation where he’s currently outplaying both the guy they gave the contract extension to as well as the dude they traded Chris Sale for, which might make for some tough conversations on Jersey Street in respect to playing time.

I think there's plenty to go around this season with Story out, and next season I like Hamilton as a backup to Story and Grissom who adds value as a pinch runner. The real crunch hits when Mayer is ready. (And the path to playing time for Valdez is rapidly narrowing...)
Of course let's see how Hamilton handles it when the league makes adjustments to him...

Smith’s numbers aren’t great, but they’re getting better, and I like having a veteran presence on what’s a pretty young roster.
No idea what kind of locker room guy he is.

I hope Cowser goes 0-12 with 12 strike outs this series.

I hope our “kids” (Abreu, Bello, Bernardino, Booser, Criswell, Duran, Grissom, Hamilton, Rafaella, Slaten, Wong) stand up to their kids. I wish Casas and Yoshida were on that list.

that is poor technique and throw. Lot to work on there, as it should be for young players.

STOP BUNTING - bunting almost always sucks anyway, but this team sucks at even executing the thing that sucks

It’d be something if the much maligned Renfroe/JBJ trade were rescued by Hamilton, especially because - at least in my eyes - Binelas was the target, as a 3rd round power hitter who had gotten talked about as a first rounder headed into his draft year. Renfroe had a 2.4 WAR season (2022) for $7.65mil and a 0.4 WAR season (2023) for $11.9mil. The problem with that trade wasn’t cashing in on Renfroe’s 2021 season or the prospects that were acquired, it was coming off an ALCS appearance and turning right field over to a washed JBJ and a second baseman who had never played right field before.
